who said is about the SoC and not about the pencil itself ?!

“M2 instantly interprets those signals and determines the position of Apple Pencil in three dimensions.”

Maybe there’s something new with the digitizer? Only acceptable reason IMO.

Only reason I’m mad is that this feels like a prelude to MacOS on iPad being able to hover and of course they will make the cut off M2 iPads. Probably dreaming there (MacOS).

Obligatory keeping my iPad Pro 2018 11” for another year
Yeah, same here, but that’s because I don’t have the money for both this and a MBP. However, there’s no denying this would be a huge upgrade for those of us holding on to 2018. :)

This is the first year I don’t wanna update Apple products apart from my phone, the series 8 was silly and the Apple TV and iPad Pro just isn’t worth it, what happened to wireless charging, no upgrade to the cameras hardware and they could of made promotion down to 10hz to 120hz but nope

I wish Apple would decouple the memory configurations from the storage. My ideal configuration is 256GB of storage with 16gb memory. Now the only way to get 16GB memory is to get 1TB of storage, which I don’t need and will never use.

At what point will Apple allow FCPX to run on the iPad Pro? Surely that would entice people to upgrade if M2 was the bait to allow this to run, i just can’t see what iPad Pro apps would really use the M2 to its full capability. The iPad has room to flex, but Apple are too afraid to impact MacBook Pro sales despite them sharing the same chip.

There's no way I am going to spend a grand (eu VAT) on the 11" when for a few hundred more the 13" has the XDR display. If the M1 13 and the 11 had the same screen when they were release I would have bought at the time.

I think there are still plenty of differentiators with the Air to keep the pro 11 alive : the Lidar and camera system, Thunderbolt, Pro Motion.
not for apple...if apple wants indeed to make an mini-led 14" ipad pro...then will be clear the 11" will never get this...the ipad air will get maybe oled

I have a 2018 generation 12.9 ipad and an M1 11” ipad. Even tho the differences seem slight I so enjoy working on the M1 ipad more than I expected to. Not because of size but just seems noticeably brighter and more SNAPPY.

Guess I am keeping my 2018 12.9" IPP for another 18 months. The MagSafe charging didn't pan out (not that anyone was asking for it anyway) and the only real change besides wifi spec is the M2 which makes zero usability impact to anyone.
They couldn't be bothered to change the camera to landscape like the new base iPad, and they didn't even throw a small bone by offering in midnight color.

Apple basically saying "wait until the 2024 OLED iPad Pro" for anyone who was thinking of upgrading...

yep..but the question is...is this feature a good feature? i dont understand the use for it

Should i return my iPad Pro 12.9 m1 i got October 6 it has till October 20 for a return is there any reason to get this one i have wifi 6e but it don’t much nor on wifi 6.
Can go either way. You already have the M1. M2 isn’t game-changingly different. However, if it’s the same price, why not, you know?

Landscape camera on the base level iPad and not the Pro is an absolute joke. Come on Apple, you can do better than this.

This is the weakest upgrade of the Pro they’ve ever had in my opinion.
The joke is that most people use the iPad in portrait orientation 90% of the time. So, they screwed over the users of the base model. Glad they didn't bring that disastrous change to the Pro.

All the updates this year have been minor, this isn’t the Apple I loved, I used to always want the latest and greatest now everything is so meh it’s not worth it

The base iPad actually had a more exiting update and its landscape oriented FaceTime camera makes it feel even more "new". Once again, Apple has given zero reasons to upgrade for anyone who still owns a 2018 11". Here's hoping the M3 will be a true next generation iPad Pro with a true next generation Apple Pencil 3.
