OK, so an iPhone 8 with an A13. This is exactly what I was expecting and I am happy to see it, I will be buying one. Two questions I have that aren't in the press release (though I'm sure the answers are forthcoming:

(1) Confirmation that this is exactly the chassis of an iPhone 8. Would iPhone 8 cases fit it, or will we need to wait for new cases?
(2) Night mode? It is not mentioned in the press release. I wasn't sure if Night Mode required specific hardware as well as software, and I was hoping that it didn't...might be it's not available?

1) It IS an iPhone 8, so cases should fit fine, that said make sure before you buy anything.

2) not a chance, night mode is their baby only for high end phones

Meh, I was hoping for something smaller.

It might be worth upgrading just to get a modern processor without FaceID though.

Waiting for the plus version, to replace my 6s+

I bought one of those $130 woot iPhone 7, to try out the smaller screen and lower PPI (also to replace my swelled battery iPod 6).

While it's fine around the house as an iPod replacement, no way can what was just released replace my plus phone.

The plus phone has still never been equaled. I guess I'll just continue to wait. Worst case maybe I'll get an 8+ eventually.

Good phone at a good price. It should make a lot of people happy who wanted a new smaller entry level phone with current up to date internals. Some sacrifices have to be made to get to a $399 price point and still maintain a profitable product so it's not surprising they are re-using the iPhone 8 design. It will probably be one of their better sellers with the world economy tanking right now because of the coronavirus.

I think there’s no night mode, that’s a bummer. Night mode would’ve been awesome.

Also are you sure the product (RED) has a black front? I’ve read the red has a white front glass just like the 7. Maybe it’s a typo on Apples site.

EDIT: I was wrong. All models have a black front. Thanks for pointing it out.

It has the same dimensions as iPhone 8, except for the Apple logo placement.

SE2 has the XR camera.
Actually, though it has the same dimensions, it is possible to have altered button placement that would mess around with case fits. But I would assume that this is enough to confirm it's exactly an iPhone 8 chassis.

But does the XR camera, paired with an A13, allow for Night Mode? The XR paired with the A12 does not, is the upgrade to A13 sufficient? I'm guessing it isn't, since it's not mentioned in the press release.

I'll be buying one, a relatively low cost iPhone with decent features. I upgraded to a Note 10 for the last contract. It's a technically great phone but there's just something about Android I find really awkward to use.

Well, I would have liked a smaller body size, but the rumors leading up to this already had me prepared for what it was, and I'm honestly OK with that. After my iPhone 5S (I think that was the model), I lived fairly happily with my iPhone 6 and then a 6S, before getting an XS, deciding it was too big/heavy (and I didn't like FaceID), and buying an SE. Since owning the SE, though, while i love the size, I don't like the following:

1) Horrible battery life (not sure if this is something recent because of an OS update or what, but it's really, really awful, and the Settings report that it's in perfectly healthy shape.
2) The camera. After being spoiled with the XS camera, the SE's camera was definitely a downgrade. This new SE won't be as good as the XS or 11 in terms of number of lenses, but they're touting it as "the best iPhone camera" so that's awesome to hear.
3) App support. Too many lazy developers have treated the SE screen size/resolution as a 2nd-class citizen, resulting in some apps not quite working perfectly.

I'm actually glad that ordering is delayed, as it gives me some extra time to mull over which storage size I should order.

So is this just an iPhone 8 with a better CPU (edit: and I guess camera?) or are there other differences?
