Makes no sense at all. It's an iPhone 9.

Actually.... wow maybe this is the reason:

When all the new phones in the fall are released with flat sides, like the old iphone 4/5 (and iPad Pro), flat will be fashionable again, and curved will be old fashioned!

So the bottom of the line entry level unfashionable iphone in a few months will be curved. If you want to show off, you'll need to have a flat phone.

Apple has transformed into a fashion company now after all.

How many of you would feel comfortable buying this or any new products coming out of China?

illl be waiting till the virus has officially gone or a vaccine is ready.

I feel 10000% comfortable with that or anything else from China.

The virus deactivates within a few hours of leaving a host. If you want to be insane, have the delivery person leave it on your back porch, wait for two weeks, then use it. Slightly less insane, when you get it, just wear gloves and use some disinfecting wipes on it. Then you're free to use the phone.

It's not like your phone will cough and project the virus into your mouth, though.

Re-used existing body, panel, and touchID manufacturing chains, check.

Put the latest processor into it which will reduce bulk order costs of the processor itself, check.

From a business perspective this is EXACTLY the same product and process of the last generation SE.
But now accessories will need to state "iPhone SE (2020) or something similar. iPhone 9 would have been odd, though, since it has better internals than the X.

Button placement was not altered.

Night mode requires 100% Focus Pixels which the XR lens does not have.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. Disappointing about Night Mode...but the camera is still a great improvement on my first generation SE. Currently I often use my DSLR...this camera should make it less of a requirement.

Damn, $599 CAD. Apple really hedging on the CAD dollar drop more than usual right now.

400 US is already about 565 CAD right now. I don’t expect our Canadian currency to gain any value in the near future so they probably put a little buffer just in case.

Looking at the specs it would appear, apart from the XR camera and IP67 rating and Touch ID there aren’t a lot of differences between iPhone SE and iPhone 11 now?

Most likely bigger RAM
Face ID
Night Mode
Ultra Wide Camera
4K Front Camera
Bigger Screen

If you *count* the differences sure 6 is not a lot. lol

Well, there are other models with that feature right?

Some people probably would say "bummer" if it had that feature too - so the choice to not have Face ID is still there.

I think Apple probably figured it all out.
Count me as one of those to be happy to still have Touch ID. I don't have a Face ID phone so I don't have TRUE insight, but Touch ID has always felt to me in theory to give me greater control, takes a very specific thing to instigate the unlock. I could be wrong, but that's why my gut tells me at any rate.

Welp, I just checked, and Apple's current trade-in value for the old SE is just $30. Boo!
