This sucks... I don't like the black bezel around the screen (wasted screen estate) PLUS I can't stand glossy!!! the glare drives me nuts on my MacBook.

the lower half of the case looks nice though, but I don't get, why they don't make the top entirely from aluminium too???????

looks fine for a MacBook (in line with the iMac), but not for the Pro.

THAT GLOSSY SCREEN HAS TO GO!!!

Is the apple store closed to anyone else? It opened but I was about to order and it closed. It says we'll be right back! I want to order now before I change my mind about this overpriced thing!

Wow. How do you NOT update the 17 inch to match the 15 inch?!?!

I am still stunned by this. WTF? I have been waiting months for an MBP, and this is what we get?

Yeah, I am going to give you $2,800 for a old rev model with more ram and a video card that can explode on me. Right.

Damn it.

What makes it worse is that they don't even mention it. It has to be asked. GIVE US A TIME FRAME! Are you working on it? Weeks? Months? Anything?

So it weighs the SAME? NO increase in resolution? BIGGER bezel? LOWER student discount? WTF!
Real question, can you use BOTH 9400m and 9600m at the same time? That would actually be a good chunk of power.

Shame they missed the price, but overall I am happy (not sure on the glossy tho :( )

We'll have to wait for next quarters earnings report to find out if Apple missed the price. They may have missed your price, but that's different.

no 17inch redesign yet they update the HD in it. well that takes away my hope.

Bummer indeed, my Dell laptop just died on me yesterday :) and I already swapped my desktop for an iMac so I was just waiting to order a completely new 17" MacBook Pro but this is realy bad news. Did they mention anything about new 17" MacBook Pro's at all?
I am a developer and 17" (1920x1200) gives you a lot of real estate (screen space) for looking at your code.

What's the difference between the old and new 17" MBP?

It's in the article:

Apple also provided a quiet update to the 17" MacBook Pro:
The updated 17-inch MacBook Pro keeps its original aluminum design, and now comes standard with a high resolution 1920 x 1200 LED-backlit display and a larger 320GB hard drive or an optional 128GB solid state drive.

The old low end $1099 MacBook will remain in Apple's product line and fall to $999, while the new MacBooks will provide the following price points:

- $1999. 15.4" Glossy Display, 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 9400M + 9600M, 250GB HD.
- $2499. 15.4" Glossy Display, 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA 9400M + 9600M, 320GB HD.

You're not making any sense, this is garbage. These are Macbook Pros, not new Macbooks - which, by the way, for some reason you've completely forgot to mention:
Glossy/LED/NV9400M/2GB/2.0GHz $1,299
Glossy/LED/NV9400M/2GB/2.4GHz $1,599
For entry there's the untouched White plastic/TFT/iX1300/1GB/2.1GHz for $999

Thanks, but no speed bump?

One can only hope that they have taken the store down again to lower the prices because of all the hate mail they just got bombarded with. I know I sent a feedback about the student discount going from 10% to 5%. THATS STUPID. Way to cut my legs out from underneath me, idiots.

Lose: FW 400, Matte Option
Swap: DVI for Mini DisplayPort, Current Overall Design for New Overall Design
Same: Price
Gain: ?

So is 4GB the limit on these machines? At least it's standard on the higher model, but I would have hoped for 8GB support by now.

So new macbook pro's, which aren't really that amazing in my opinion are now more expensive over-all and a lot more expensive for students (atleast in Canada).

The Macbook Pro's are now 2150 from 2100 in Canada, and the Student discount goes from 200 dollars off to 100 dollars off!! Which means Yesterday a MATTE macbook pro would cost me 1900+tax, now it costs me 2050+tax and I have to deal with a bloody glossy screen. 150 dollar price increase! and no matte option, which for me and a lot of people is a big deal.

In otherwords, these shinanigans cost Steve one sale.

If you prefer the previous model, there are plenty of them for sale in the refurb/clearance section.

I dunt very like the new black plastic keyboard it looks a bit tacky lack of texture comparing with it predecessor.

Now it seems not worth it to buy macbook pro starter level cos it just same as macbook except larger screen. Wot a shame apple made this morning.

I can't believe this. I think Jony just had his first strike at Apple.

Pros do not want glossy screens.

I think the new styling works on the Macbook, because it looks like a mini iMac. That's fine.

It absolutely does not work on the Pro machine. Terrible move in my opinion. I'm so happy I bought a MBP a few weeks ago!

Yet another damn adapter to buy. Surely they could have just left the regular DVI connector on the MBP and added the DisplayPort, right? I mean, for anyone that does presentations (such as myself) there goes any chance in hell the display you will use is DVI or where I can use my mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter. Now I have to remember to pack yet another adapter...mini-DP-to-DVI, mini-DP-to-VGA...

Arrrrghhh, I'm confusing myself here.

17" delay

Wasn't there something during the rumor phase that indicated there was a technical problem with the 17" and thus they would not be part of today big changes? Was there ever any indication what the holdup was? Problems with milling the larger casing?

1300 dollars for 2.0ghz ? Anyone who buys that is out of their mind bonkers with reality distortion fields. I love Apple but this update seems weird.. the 17" was completely neglected. I wish Apple would stick to doing updates when updates are needed rather than this every few months, huge media event, then lukewarm products come rolling out.
