I'm interested in seeing what they announce even though I'm not in the market for one. I purchased a 2020 13" MBP this year and a 2019 27" iMac last year and still require native x86 virtualization.

... I been waiting for quite a long time now to change my old iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) which is exactly 8 years old now. I been saving and ready to have new and updated iMac :apple:🖥️ hardware, so I hope this is it... 🤞💰 💶
SHUT UP APPLE AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Apple and overseas suppliers are ramping up production of three new Mac laptops with Apple processors: new 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and a new 13-inch MacBook Air, according to people familiar with the matter. Beyond the processor switch, the devices won’t have significant design changes.

I really really hope they have it right an everyone else has it wrong. I'm a power user, and have never bought the 12-13" model. Let's see a 16" or 15" at the start please.

Bloomberg says we are getting a 16" Pro with the new Apple processor in it. That's a surprise, thought it'd be an intel refresh for that one.
I'm pretty sure this will prove to be incorrect. I don't think Apple has an iGPU that's appropriate.

Who thinks they're going to have a "One More Thing..." at the end of this event?

I predict they'll start out with a bang and go right into the new Macbook (Pro?). They'll talk about the incredible battery life and impressive "Desktop-Class" performance in a notebook (Alluding to the graph they showed us at WWDC).

Then they jump into a big segment about Big Sur. They'll announce and show off a bunch of apps (in addition to all of their own, and the ones they already showed at WWDC) that have already been working on Apple Silicon, as well as all of he iPhone and iPad apps that "just work" on apple silicon. Craig will demonstrate even more cool features that Apple Silicon has to offer on Big Sur from what we already saw at WWDC. Macbook will ship late November.

Then we'll jump back to the secret labs and Jonny will do a big segment on Apple Silicon. He'll talk about their new Mac-specific line of chips that will pave the way for new macs.

Finally, at the end, Tim will come out and say "One More Thing..." and they will hit us with the first major redesign of the iMac in over a decade. This one comes with an even beefier chip inside with even more power. Slim bezels, flat back design similar to the Pro Display XDR. iMac will ship mid December (before the holidays).
Tim has no faith in the product like Steve. Everything will be leaked in advance to market test response.

I hoping they release an AS mini sometime next year. My late 2012 is still going strong and does everything I need it to do but Catalina is the end of the line for OS updates. I've already set aside the money for a new machine and since they already have AS mini for developers I'm hoping it will be one of the early machines to get updated.

‘One more thing’ has been replaced with ‘Apple Event’
Maybe there will be more than just one more thing and the title was misleading??

What about an updated Apple TV? Any chance?

yeah, this is the apple device I need right now, and it’s now over 3 years.

although honestly I’m getting vaguely skittish because I’ve gotten Amy apple account locked for no discernible reason twice in 5 days. (Which I guess must mean someone is trying to guess my password 😕)

They really need to update the iPad Pro. It’s almost insulting that it’s still on a two year old chip. What’s even more insulting is that most of the iPad Air reviews recommend the Air over the Pro. That’s a problem.

It looks like the black Apple represents the A14 chip and the colors represent the light spectrum/new model iterations...

I wonder what the chips will be named - I don't think they'll be "A14X"... and I hope benchmarks leak before the event...

All that will be seen is a new MBP with AS, they are not going to release any other device with AS at this event. At best a new MBA but I will go with a MBP 13. They just want to showcase, nothing else.

why do you think that?

I have the exact same question for use with Adobe CC.
Yeah, it seems like it won't be a huge porting issue for Photoshop/Illustrator etc... except for After Effects...that's a big program and makes extensive use of video card specifics I believe. How will that run on silicon macs? Now, for me AE is the program I use least nowadays but I'm not sure I want to be in the world of all Apple silicon for 3 years anyway.

#3 you can count on. #1 is completely over the top nonsense. #2 is possible but don't be disappointed if it's not that much in battery life, no matter the model.
If there isn't a BIG difference in the key issues, why would Apple make this move? A little more battery life is worth it? Not being quite as fast? Using the same industrial design? It seems like those results wouldn't make the effort worthwhile at all...

As I say, they want to showcase what AS can do but at this stage, it will only be on laptops, that is where they have the most to prove after years of overheating and thermal throttling. The battery life should be better, performance more consistent. All the good news stories related to AS are how much better it will make their laptops. That is the only story they are going to tell next week.

Even the reliable leakers are consistent in that they only expect a 13" MBP to be the first available device. Not even a redesigned one, just a current MBP with an AS chip.

Apple doesn't get to design Intel chips, Apple has full control over their own Chips.

Thermal concerns, Apples chips are likely to run much much cooler than anything than AMD or Intel can offer in the foreseeable future.

Thermal means at the very least competitive with AMD and Intel performance wise.

Price, it will be much cheaper for them them to design and manufacture their own chips.

Supply chain, they effectively cut out a third party in Intel that are being soundly trounced by most other chip manufacturers currently. Not having to rely on other companies R&D and production as much, is huge.

IMO there will be a difference in the key issues, not anything drastic, but I think Apple will attempt to distance their line up with performance increases in multiple areas. How well they do is up for debate until it happens, but there's no reason to think they can't. Thermals are the #1 reason for performance issues at this point and have been for a long time, it's why the Centrino chip that became the i9 eventually trounced the G5 back in the day.

Sure, but none of that says, only a single laptop, and only a laptop. Here's my guess. Macbook Pro and Air, along with a Mac Mini or possibly an iMac. I agree that Mac Pros and iMac Pros are not coming until next year, simply because that's a bigger jump power wise. But I see no reason to only release one laptop with AS, and no reason not to start with something with good numbers. My guess is a 13" MBP that clocks in around the speed of a octocore 2.4ghz i9, probably slightly under it if they do not come out with a 15-16" MBP, in order to not trounce their own sales, and give an even more impressive boost to the AS 15-16" when it comes out.

Personally I hope I'm wrong and they release a 15" that trounces the current 16" i9 badly along with the other laptops.
