I'm so sad that nobody ever knows where that blue watch band is from, I keep seeing it used in marketing but can't find it anywhere.
The Chinese are currently reverse engineering the Ultra bands. In about two weeks, you will have every band you've ever desired on Amazon for under $10.

Not true!
Here is much better dive computer for about 130$
For diving with wet/dry suit and Apple Watch Ultra I need new strap with extension which cost 100$ for strap and extension for 50$. Total 150$ for straps!
And you think this watch is the cheapest? ROTFL
The Cressi Leonardo computer costs $230 at Amazon. Claiming it's a $130 computer seems dishonest. We should be comparing prices in the same currency.

How does your dive computer analyze gas? I've honestly never heard of such a device. Does it connect to your tank and relay the composition to a display? Why would this need monitoring? Does the composition of the gas in your tank change from minute to minute? Mine doesn't.

Forget about the watch. Scuba diving is expensive and many divers dive with 2 dive computers for redundancy. People complaining about price for hardware and additional subscriptions (not even necessary for diving) really have no understanding of this subject.
Not really though. I bought my air integrated dive watch for 200 bucks off eBay and it had barely been used. Diving doesn’t have to be expensive. Especially if you are just doing recreational dives.

What would be Oceanic’s inclination to develop this app if they aren’t going to get compensated for it?

I’m not a big fan of subscriptions on everything as I probably pay about $350/month with subs including YouTubeTV and so on.

For an avid diver that will get use out of this, it’s basically like 8 Nitrox steel 100 fills. Paying the $79.99 should not be an issue at all.

For the casual diver that logs fewer than 10 dives a year, you would probably pay the $9.99/month price for the months that you spend diving which for a casual diver, would more than likely be a few summer months.

Beyond that, if you’re super frugal you can use the AW Ultra Depth Gauge, an SPG, dive tables, and the watch to plan and execute your dives.

The Oceanic+ app is really a “luxury addition” to the AW Ultra which when revealed at the AWU unveiling was fully disclosed to be a subscription service, so all the whining about it should have been over by now.

I have the option of wearing what‘s on the left or right on my wrist. I choose left, but will still clip my ScubPro G2 with tank transmitter onto my bcd for backup. D9A3E38F-8315-4E1A-966C-0C3E8C5D1325.jpeg

Good timing! I will be using this as my backup computer when I go to Cozumel in two weeks. Right now, it is a backup to the Descent MK2i, which I had gotten because of the surface GPS. But I may sell it and replace my main computer with a Perdix or something similar.

Imagine not being able to afford an $800 Apple Watch Ultra, but going ahead and complaining about the $9.99/mo scuba subscription?

The irony
Maybe it’s not an affordability issue… instead some people still prefer to own the things they buy instead of simply renting them. Each to their own but that’s why I support apps like affinity designer and won’t buy a bmw with subscription heated seats.

My RSS reader pullled down the attached photo with this Macrumors story, which looks exactly like an apple press photo/rendering but has TWO unreleased Ocean band colors.

I cannot imagine that Macrumors commissioned an original rendering for this post or somehow edited the colors on the bands? Is this an apple mistake that they hastily corrected? All the bands in the press release are now the yellow one.

Am I going insane? Does anyone else see this photo in their RSS reader?
That's the blue I asked about in this thread twice, I want to find it! It doesn't seem to exist yet.

thats not what he said, he said the watch cost is overall insignificant compared to the other costs if you dive regularly 130ft (Id add 90ft too)

Not to mention renting boats, tank rentals and fills, etc. a nice large color screen, this watch kills. Really if you want to complain about $30 savings to get a monochrome single-purpose dive watch over this go ahead.

Anyone trusting their life on an apple product should have their head examined (or be locked away in an insane asylum)

I compare with the same currency PLN recalculated for readers convenience to USD. Dive computer cost here less than dive strap for Apple Watch.

I absolutely refuse to buy into this subscription garbage. Sounds like a good app, too bad.
I think this is one of those rare occasions where a subscription model can make sense - for recreational divers who maybe only dive during one or two holidays a year. Why pay full whack for a feature you won't use for most of the year when you can virtually PAYG? These types of diver will likely be renting equipment when they dive for the very same reason, so why not just 'rent' the app when they need it?

My dive computer does exactly that. There is a transponder unit (about the size of a car key fob) which screws into one of the regulator ports. This unit contains a battery of it's own, it's completely sealed for depth, and is paired to my dive computer wirelessly.

Each breath that I take causes fluctuations in the available gas pressure. The transponder sends these fluctuations to my computer which measures their duration and pressure difference. Combined with the computers own pressure meter and therefore depth measurement, it knows exactly what I'm breathing, with each breath. It can compute the gas saturation of my tissues, or at least give a very good estimation. Far better than dive tables.

This information is used to warn me about all sort of important things, and it's extremely important for safe diving.

Apple Watch Ultra, at the moment, cannot pair to a wireless transponder so it cannot do any of these important and useful things. That's not to say that isn't useful, but I would not use it as a primary dive computer until it can do gas analysis, and it can be serviced and pressure tested after that service by a service centre.
