Names vs. Numbers...

Why is Apple naming the operating systems (they really don't call it "10.10" they call it "Yosemite" but calling the iOS versions by number, like "8"???

But looking at "About my Mac" it only lists my OS as 10.9.3 and doesn't say "Mavericks"... Weird!?!

Did anyone happen see and record the URL for the public beta?

I'm an iOS Dev Program member but I'd like to play with OSX Yosemite and be a part of that whole thing too...

It's really weird, probably one of the world's greatest mysteries. How can they give the one thing a name and the other a number? It's almost like they can just chose to do it however they feel like.

No, but here's the link they give on the Apple site (currently down for maintenance)

Edit: It's up.

Edit 2: lol

Cool, but where's the new hardware?

Sounds like a lot of cool new software features, but where's the new MacBook Air and iMac? I was waiting for the rumored 12" MacBook to come out to get one for my aunt as a birthday present, but it looks like I'm going to have to go for the "new" (admittedly not old) 13".

WWDC is primarily developer-focussed and they don't tend to reveal hardware there (barring major changes).

Although I wonder what references are in the public beta! Oh...there goes all my productivity this week.

Build number is 14A238x

Here is a picture of it:

You may be right in general, but they did announce the Mac Pro and new MacBook Air models (plus Airport Time Capsule and airport Extreme) at WWDC last year for example. Also, I like your username and avatar!

But the Mac Pro is a machine aimed largely at the developer/heavy duty community. Today wasn't about commercial hardware which is where most of the Mac/iOS Device sales are.

For those having trouble pronouncing Yosemite, I propose that we just stop calling it OS X and call it OS Y.

I just updated my comment. They did also announce MacBook Air, Time Capsule, and Airport Extreme last year, none of which are developer-focused. That said, it is Apple, and you never know for sure what to expect.

Also, it looks like consumer hardware has been announced more often than not at WWDCs since 2009.
2009: iPhone 3GS, MacBook Pro (borderline consumer/professional)
2010: iPhone 4
2012: MacBook Air, retina MacBook Pro (borderline consumer/professional)
2013: MacBook Air, AirPort Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, Mac Pro (not consumer)

What are the minimum requirements?

It'll be great to know on which Mac it can be installed.

Really excited about the continuity stuff.

Receiving call on the ipad or mac is also way cool.

Is it just me, or does it seem the brining iDisk back and calling it iCloud Drive?
