Looks interesting. I think I have a spare drive somewhere I can load this onto (when released) and see if I like it and if there's software compatibility/hardware issues.

Personally, I'm not into iOS 7/8's cartoony look but it appears at first glance that Apple's done some icon tweaking and overall interface improvements, even toning things down from iOS 7's overly flat and garish color scheme. I'm one of the few, I guess, who prefers skeuomorphism over the flat aesthetic.

I have an Android phone and an iPad 1 (so my ecosystem is already fragmented), but the integration thing seems excellent, for those in Apple-only land. This has always been their forte, and Yosemite looks to keep those folks locked in even longer.

The dock/darkening/translucent thing screams Windows 7 to me, but I like that as well so no downside. I personally prefer the 2D dock (I have it on ML through TinkerTool, which allows the vertical dock to be set up horizontally), so that isn't impactful to me either.

More importantly, it doesn't look like they're forcing this upgrade on everybody and calling us "satisfied" (what a BS line!!), so if I don't like it I can go back to Mountain Lion (don't care much for Mavericks--seems like a mishmash of iOS 7/OS X ML).

I really, really like ML, and I don't see anything in Yosemite that I have to have; just a new skin, really. Both are OS X, and that is what I really love after all.

For those that love the whole new, flat aesthetic though, this is a banging update.

Here is something weird I've never seen before.

When trying to get yosemite in the mac dev center (which is still down) I went over to the ios dev center to see how that is going. That one is up and you can get ios 8 there if you want to.

But the weird thing is that I could get a redemption code for os x yosemite IN THE IOS DEV CENTER!

So I'm downloading yosemite now and it shows up in my purchases tab as

"OS X 10.10 Developer Preview"

But I went via the ios dev center, not the mac dev center. That's weird.

Same thing happened to me. It's great if they are allowing iOS developers to download Mac betas now.

One major thing I haven't seen, an Airdrop update so iOS and OSX can finally share files without having to send it out on the internet to get it to transfer... All this stuff is great but I'd really like to be able to share files without a speedy internet connection or sucking up mobile hotspot bandwidth.

These b-tards have ditched Lucida Grande for the boring Helvetica in their UI. The world isn't going to be the same anymore.
Actually the world will be more of the same than ever before.

To me the phone call from your Mac is huge! Now only if they could get small map verification of the caller (if location is shared by that caller) that would be cool. Parents could really keep track of there kids this way.

Build number is 14A238x

Here is a picture of it:

How do you developer folk do this? Do you just install it on your usual machine, or do you have a separate Mac, or what? I'd join up if I could install it in VMWare or something like that. Can you put it in a separate drive partition?

Where's the full screen button gone? Or does the green zoom button now take on this role (like Windows)? I hope not!!

Spotlight looks sweet. Alfred should be scared. That phone to computer thing was nice. Swift looks freaking magical. Mail looks cool. I think our late Steve Jobs would approve I really do. Ios8 was a letdown but whatever no muktitasking siri apis.
I just hope its fast, and still customizable regarding os x.

And, did my eyes deceive me or is there a black theme in Yosemite.

Craig was excellent. New ceo? ;)

i dont think so, i think you have to be registered with the same Apple ID in OSX and your iphone

I believe the examples he gave to answering your iPhone on your Mac (and I think also the SMS) had the iPhone in the same house with you. No example as if you left it at work (or even if the battery was dead).

At home they'd only need to stream the call from the iPhone to Mac over your local WiFI network (or BlueTooth? or AirDrop?), the other way, they'd need to be streaming the phone call over the internet and dealing with internet bandwidth.

Did anyone happen see and record the URL for the public beta?

I'm an iOS Dev Program member but I'd like to play with OSX Yosemite and be a part of that whole thing too...

Then you wouldn't need the url for the public beta. As a developer you already have access to the beta.

I like it, the UI looks neat, they app redesigns looks great. I just hope it doesn't slow down ''older'' Macs. For instance, I have a '11 MacBook Air, and it still runs great, just as fast when I bought it with Lion. I just hope these newer OS versions don't slow it down.

RIP iPhoto?

So is "Photos" is gonna replace iPhoto? I was never a fan of iPhoto even though I used it. But I'm really excited about being able to use iCloud to find a photo on my iPhone thats stored in iCloud

Wifi? Oh that sounds like it will be fun to diagnose later. I can barely get it to sync as it is. :apple:

Sounds like a lot of cool new software features, but where's the new MacBook Air and iMac? I was waiting for the rumored 12" MacBook to come out to get one for my aunt as a birthday present, but it looks like I'm going to have to go for the "new" (admittedly not old) 13".

I agree & eddy cue said that " apple has the most exciting pipeline in 25 years "

Thanks for sharing!

Can someone confirm this? With a screenshot or something?
