I wonder how many over a million we are talking about?
Like 1,000,001? Or 1.2 million?

Does it even matter at this point? Apple is the most successful company in the world. These numbers are insane. I can't wait to try out Siri on Friday. I also can't wait to have 64GB and not have to worry about conserving space so much. Though I do need to clean up my apps. I have over 500 installed.

Wow... I thought 300 was a lot. :p

Dang over 500 Apps? I need to get in gear then, I though having 200 was a lot lol :p

Disappointing indeed. :p

It probably would have been over 1million in the first 12 hours if it weren't for the pre-order system issues. I guess we will see Apple's stock "recover" today.

I suppose it matters - at some point (next year) we will be having the same conversation about the next record breaking iPhone launch.

Apart from an extraordinary device, there is some point for this fantastic data:

-17 months from the iPhone 4
-2 more carriers in the US (Verizon and Sprint)
-More countries available at first day (at least Spain and Italy)

Verizon was already included. Actually, Verizon iPhone users were less likely to upgrade since iPhone debuted there less than 9 months ago. So, imagine if Verizon users (the US's biggest carrier) were eligible for upgrades - sales would have been much higher.

What? No! Surely all the experts who said it was a letdown couldn't be wrong? Surely Joe Public would have seen that because it's got the same form factor, it can't be better no matter how much the inside is souped-up? Seems the public knows more than the experts about how to judge if a phone is an improvement.

well said

:apple:

Watch them blow it with the iPhone5 that is smaller and has a tapperd design...

I think the current size / weight / and form factor is 100% SPOT ON !!!

they could extend the screen to the edges but that's about it...

I love the current design....

Even tho I was expecting it to sell very well that number blew my mind out of my nose and onto the screen x3

Ok this is a complete surprise to me. Just shows how much Apple customers love their products. There is no loyalty of this magnitude on the Android platform.

So much for a phone that just has an S stuck on the box am I right? The ones that nobody would buy. All the haters were right after all.

FALSE.

I wish I could fail this good...

Apple has failed again! If only we could all fail this badly. :)

Blah blah blah the 4S is a flop..... blah blah blah Nexus Prime..... blah blah blah Apple will be out of business within 2 months without Steve Jobs.... blah blah blah non one will buy this because everyone will wait for the iPhone 5...... blah blah blah Apple really missed the mark and there's nothing new here......
wait, what? Oh, it's a wild hit? And Apple's more robust than ever, with unprecedented demand? And Tim Cook knows what he's doing? And no one's clamoring for the Nexus after all? My bad! Carry on.:apple:

I think many people confuse some of the opinions of the 4s. I think many people had no doubt whatsoever that the phone would sell well. First of all - 50 percent of iPhone owners own a 3GS or earlier model. Add to that - Sprint is now a carrier in the US.

The issue was never whether or not it was going to sell - most would agree it would and sell well. The "issue" many people had was that the new phone just wasn't all that exciting - or as exciting as it could be based on what was/is possible.

These things aren't necc. related at all. And sure - someone will chime in that clearly monumental sales must mean people are "excited." And I would argue that excitement over owning/getting a new phone is not the same as excitement over the specs. At least for those with the iPhone 4.

What WILL be curious - is how many people upgraded (staying with the same carrier) from iPhone 4 to 4s at launch.

I really want to know where those things were said

Some people seem to think that if you took the shell of a 2007 Prius, and stuffed a 2010 Prius inside it that it's somehow still a 2007 Prius... Odd people. This is quite a significant upgrade on many fronts.
