Correction...

Apple has made a huge mistake with those numbers... that is no 2.000.000 pre-orders, but 2.000.001 , because here in Portugal we just can pre-order it middle this week! :D

Awesome

And to all those people yesterday saying:

"Apple's Distortion Reality Field again, they are posting sold out within an hour, because they programmed their online stock to show only 200,000"

"This is typical Apple BS, just for a good show"

Well, looks like they just kicked every other cell phone manufacturer (including their previous' selves) out of the ballpark.

2 million people are just going with the stream.

Apple is not a "niche"/"we do it different" brand anymore.

Apple are given people what they want - just to make money (and thats ok - and good for the investers!). I think instead they should be more innovative and keep on designing things that surprises me. Keep on giving me things that are more "nice to have" than "need to have" because of aesthetic reasons.

The new ipod linie is a step back (maybe 2 gens.) if you look a the design - where is my very loved click-wheel? The Iphone is just more of the same.

Apple is a huge succes, no doubt! But for my money I want to be surprised and design-overwhelmed rather than getting the (maybe) best performing product. I guess its just not a brand for me anymore..

i'm surprised...

at&T (and maybe other carriers) are not allowing an early upgrade so I would have thought the early uptake would be much slower than past phones.

- so are orders from people with older phones?
- or are people actually paying the non-subsidized fee?

I would think the majority of sales are not from people upgrading each year - this is the wave of people (like me) who are upgrading from the iPhone 4 after more than two years. Pent up demand.

Hey, if you want a company to put your personal interests ahead of its own financial interests, start your own company. Apple's not a charity.

Yeah but did it get this much hype and excitement and I am pretty when the Samsung galaxy was released they had plenty of stock. When my telco made available the iPhone 5 for pre order they run out of everything.

The 9M was also over the span of a few months.

Best product they've ever made? I'm still in love with the MBA and unibody MBP the most. Having said that, hello new iPhone on Friday!
I'm still in love my MacBook Pro as it was the first Apple product I ever purchased back in 2005, so I'm a tad bit partial. Can't wait for the iPhone 5 though!

Yeah AT&T won't let me early upgrade. My wife burned my upgrade when she broke her 3GS and her update isn't available till oct 12. I'm not paying an extra $149 to get it a month early. In store they told me I should be able to upgrade on the 1st. Crossing fingers.

I had a feeling that the sales numbers would pass the 4s but doubling them is more than I expected. Great showing, especially considering the number of people I saw saying that they were disappointed and didn't plan on ordering.

I would imagine that quite a few people skip the "s" upgrades in order to be able to upgrade the cheap way when a redesigned phone comes out. That is what I did this past time when the 4s was announced.

They must have been holding back supply to create artificial demand on Friday. :D
