Few facts:
Apple is not going away!
Samsung is not going away!

Why do we constantly compare the two and spend countless hours debating which is better? I'm in the Apple camp and have made a conscious decision to this point. I'm happy for my Android loving friends...it's just not for me. Hardware/Software...which is better...who cares?

We are at a point in the smartphone world where incremental improves are the best we can expect. So it really boils down to user experience. My experience needs are different than the Android camps. I believe Apple is better positioned to improve the end users experience, but do I really care if Android users think? NO!

Not to start a flame war, but I do not lurk in the Android forums, but it seems their is a huge Android following in MRs...I wonder why?

These people must be brainwashed!! I hate Apple! I hate its closed ecosystem and prefer Google's open Android platform! I loathe Apple that it deliberately makes fragile iPhone and wants its customers to buy new iPhone whenever they release ones!! Their products are wayyyyy overpriced and they don't donate their profits to third world countries!! I WANT FREEDOM AND I DON'T WANT TO BE CONTROLLED BY APPLE!!! :p

impressive....hope preorders start to arrive early so activations are spread out a little.

Droidboy's aren't happy.....

Because they are in desperate denial, seeking some means of closure. To many people, announcing something else that they don't use as bad makes them feel superior. As you probably see in the Apple camp, most of us don't give a rat's hairy ass. :D

The 9M was also over the span of a few months.

Not that its really relevant to the thread, but it was over the space of a week. It was reported at the end of the first week when pre-orders opened ;) The iPhone 5 still beats the record.

That must be it......mind control.

"But, but.... Samsung had 9M pre-orders for the S3!!111!!1" - Android user

Sorry, not true. 9M have been preordered by carriers NOT customers. All this 9M have been put into the warehouse.

The iPhone 5 has been preordered by customers 2M times!!

Pre-opening the stock is at $697. It should hit $700 today. I'm glad I didn't sell all my shares when it hit $600 earlier this year.

2 million people are just going with the stream.

Apple is not a "niche"/"we do it different" brand anymore.

Apple are given people what they want - just to make money (and thats ok - and good for the investers!). I think instead they should be more innovative and keep on designing things that surprises me. Keep on giving me things that are more "nice to have" than "need to have" because of aesthetic reasons.

The new ipod linie is a step back (maybe 2 gens.) if you look a the design - where is my very loved click-wheel? The Iphone is just more of the same.

Apple is a huge succes, no doubt! But for my money I want to be surprised and design-overwhelmed rather than getting the (maybe) best performing product. I guess its just not a brand for me anymore..

I find your post confusing and, to be frank, a bit confused.

Being "niche" and being "different" are not the same thing. Apple clearly isn't niche but it most definitely IS different. There is nobody out there who does what Apple does the way Apple does it. Nobody else has the integration of the software, hardware, services and ecosystem that Apple has - nobody at all. RIM comes closest as it makes its own OS and its own hardware but RIM doesn't supply the kinds of value adding services and products that Apple supplies. Apple's offering is unique - they do 'think different'.

As for "giving people what they want", well, yes and no. It all depends on what people you're talking to. Some want massive screens, NFC and wireless charging - Apple has chosen to NOT go with the trend on these areas just like it chose NOT to go with the trend on flash, removable batteries, etc. Similarly, nobody saw the potential for the iPad - people were asking for desktop software squished into a tablet form factor and Apple chose to go another way. Apple does give people what they want but only when what they want happens to co-incide with the vision they have. Again, this is very different to their main competitors who seem to design products by consensus rather than following their own path.

You really want them to give you "nice to have" rather than "need to have" features? I think what you're asking for is for Apple to become like Samsung. They won't. I also don't quite understand why you value novelty features over real value adding features... that seems a funny way to go but each to their own I guess.

You're complaining, in the same breath, that the new iPods are more of them same AND you want your click wheel back...? I think you're a bit confused here. Either you want more of the same (click wheel) or you don't - it's odd that you seem to want both the same and different.

Finally, you're saying you want different rather than better?! I think at least you're correct in one thing; Apple absolutely isn't the brand for you anymore but it's you, not Apple, who has changed.

Steve would never had let this happen.

Now we know why Apple could care less about an iMac update. Show me the money!:D

Just because they didn't announce it this past week doesn't men they don't care.

In fact it could mean that they do care. About their employees and having to learn everything about the new phone etc in one week to sell it like mad.why toss in a whole computer change up as well. Not to mention the traffic it might cause on top of the traffic of the phones.

So they get the phones out of the way and then deal with rest.

Sure makes that desperate, pathetic Samsung ad look even more pathetic doesn't it? :D :D :D

Just imagine the total from opening (21) plus all these preorders. Android fans with more egg on their faces.

I love when people write comments like "worst iPhone ever", "what were they thinking??" and "bye iPhone, hello S3" and then I hear news like this. Makes me smile :)

Why are there so many droidians on this site. If you don't like the iPhone, then don't buy one.

Saying you hate the design, blah, blah, bhah will not make you feel better about your choice of phone.

So Samsung SOLD 9 million Galaxy S3 phones to consumers in one week?

I wrote a similar statement in another post and some people just like to spew
negative stuff about a product they don't even use. Nothing is ever perfect, but for my needs the iPhone is the best.

For others the Android is the best, we get it.

I didn't even think once ever to go onto an Android forum to knock the S III or whatever they have. It just doesn't interest me.

Maybe psychologically they need to put somebody else down to make themselves feel better?

Pretty sad actually!

omg who cares, GIVE US IMAC NEWS we dont know anything about those please move on from the iphone already we already know everything that needs to be known about it.

wow, two millions in one hour? and how many more could have been sold? wow, just wow....
