I really can't see why Apple doesn't make iChat and FaceTime compatible? They should just have made iChat mobile, and made it possible to have a video chat between Macs and iPods touches/iPhones. As of now, iChat is used sub-optimally. Also, they should consider upgrading the resolution of iChat in future Macs.

Pretty sure you won't be waiting too long for this.

does anyone use ichat anymore with skype and other video calling software out there? i use skype 99% of the time.

only iPhone 4?

Yes, and too bad that was just for the iPhone 4. :(
I could almost sense it, with its improved camera and all, but that sucked.

HDR iPhone 4 only? He said only for the iPhone 4??? if he did I missed that!

Ahem.. did anyone hear Steve say iOS 4.2 is bringing everything, specifically HDR photos to the iPad. Now why would I need HDR photos if the iPad doesn't have a camera. Hmmmm.. just a matter of time before it does have a camera.

You got that right!

awesome!

gonna be tough to wait till November....arrghh

I was very much hoping that the update would be here by now for the iPad as that plus a memory upgrade might convince me to buy an iPad. I'm also holding out on an upgrade to my 3G iPhone, I'm hoping that 4.1 performs a bit better than what 4.0.x does. If not I may go the iPhone route this year.

Pretty excited about the HDR photos, I find myself needing this feature more and more often. I wonder what 4.2 will include for the iPhone in November, I know it brings major updates to the iPad but certainly there will be something updated on the iPhone as well...

AND DID HE SAY PROXIMITY ISSUES FIXED?!!! If so that will be the best update, can't believe more people aren't talking about it.

Maybe not iPad2 but possible an iPad1 with a memory bump.

So... what do you think about Steve saying that iOS 4.2 for iPad coming in November will do everything that iOS 4.1 will do on the iPhone including HDR photos
For the life of me I don't know why anybody would want a camera on the iPad. A low res FaceTime camera maybe but a back facing camera? I just don't see people using such.
I think we will see iPad 2 on November just in time for the holiday season, that is what I figured out after hearing what Steve said... although he could just be confused with all the i devices presented today (he called the nano touch several times )
Well I'm itching for an iPad but I refuse to buy one with so little RAM installed. Until that is addressed not iPad for me. To that end I would expect the November rev to simply be the current iPad with more RAM and maybe gyros.

Anyways what I'm calling iPad 2 would be a major revision, which I don't expect to see right away. What I'm hoping iPad 2 is, is this a machine with a Cortex A9 derived processor with multiple cores, much more RAM and more cellular options. Cellular options would include 4G support, different carriers and the like. I'd also love more hardware features, especially an SD slot and a real USB port. Thus when I see iPad 2 I'm thinking a major revision.
We'll see what happens, I WILL be waiting for november to buy the iPad :D

Yep, I'm with you here. The timing would be right as Apple could then advertise the NEW iPad against the competition expected to hit the streets before the Christmas shopping season.

Just what the photography world needs, more craptastically composed HDR images..

Nope, could be a slip or an indication that a different iPad is on the way.

how come no one is talking aout Steve's slip when he saud HDR for ipad in november? that means a ipad with a camera!

Nothing was implied 100%. It could have been a mistake, it could in fact be happening, the device could get a FaceTime only camera, we could see a smaller iPad with camera or any number of other things. In and of itself this slip means nothing.

I'm frankly not a fan of the idea that a rear facing camera on iPad makes sense. I just don't see it be acceptable to most users. An alternative would be a horizontal camera, that is one facing out the top of the device so that you could use the unit like an old Twin Lens Reflex camera. This would keep the big slate out of your direct field of view.

The other thing to consider is an iPad in the 5 to 7 inch range where a camera might be more viable. Such a sized tablet would suffer far less from its size when used for handheld photography. Either way one advantage the IPads would have is the thicker chassis, which might support a much higher quality camera / lens system. Still I can't see the attraction of holding up a tablet sized device to take snap shots. The whole camera industry has moved to smaller and smaller cameras to satisfy the users need for easy to carry and use devices.

I can't believe more people aren't commenting on this either. That's all I wanted to hear about at this press conference. If the proximity sensor issue is fixed, I will be 100% happy with this phone. I'm worried that it won't totally fix it but I guess we'll see next week. Of all the people I know with the iPhone 4, that is the one major problem people have. I feel like I've been waiting for a fix forever as I continue to put almost every call on mute or hold.

Yeah right. This GM build will be out there in no time if you know where to look.

Yeah this has been torrented already - can you install it through iTunes 9 by holding down the shift key when your iPhone is connected to iTunes or do you dfinately need a developers account?

Yay for the iOS upgrades!

re: steves mention of HDR on iPad - it's simply a part of the OS, it will be also on the previous cameraless ipod touch models also. And you can get HDR apps on the ipad already - they simply use previously shot photos instead of a inbuilt camera.

And I'm glad apple confirmed once and for all that iPad will have multitasking - I was getting sick of the stupid fools on these forums trying to tell me that the ipad doesn't have the hardware capability to do it - can those users please **** now?

iPhone 5 for Verizon coming out today... nyahahahahahahaha drooooooling time.. where is the so called iPhone announcement going to Verizon. Why not come to AT&T... nyahahahahaha

They would never announce this anyway. This would keep people who are considering buying one but don't want ATT from actually buying one.
