He also referred to the iPod Touch 4G as a new iPhone several times.

My question is whether HDR will be available for the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 only?

I was wondering the same thing and it appears that it's an iPhone 4 only feature.

HDR...wow. I would think they would let us adjust at least the WB or shutter before they try to tackle HDR. This will surely be garbage. I mean, Ps is just now getting to the point of getting nice results.

HDR on an iPhone, when will they stop. If they partner with leica, I will surely upgrade my phone. Haha. I would be able to take a picture and then answer a call and then swing my M6 around and grab the moment with film as well.

HDR...haha

As they let you choose, I think it's great.

This isn't "extreme HDR", it's "helpful HDR" that just slightly betters your images. Normal exposure, then a couple over/under to bring out to blown out and too dark parts.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and I think it will make a lot of images look better. It will not replace HDR-apps (or HDR in PS for those that make them there), and that is not it's goal. If it gives you pretty much the same images before, just where the sky is not blown out in half of them, what is there to complain about? Especially since you can just choose to not use the HDR-versions..

how come no one is talking aout Steve's slip when he saud HDR for ipad in november? that means a ipad with a camera!
Yeah, i had the same thought when he mentioned HDR coming to iPad. Guess for MacRumors and other blogs, Steve giving a hint like that is not sufficient to post as rumour :p

Downloaded and installed the GM last night. Holy cr*p, my iP4 is a screaming rocket ship in my hand! Bug fixes and new features aside, the speed improvements alone blew me away.

But what about the proximity fix? Did you experience the problem before and if so, is it fixed? Everyone else posting about having the GM of 4.1 doesn't have the iPhone 4 so I'm curious to hear your feedback on the issue.

I would wait a little before buying, as it's likely they will announce new ipads jan/feb next year.

Just dropped by, probably too late, to say bah. Buy for what your needs are today. You'll always be waiting for the next bit of tech to roll around the corner and if you think you are future proofing yourself, maybe you are. Or maybe that feature will be outdated with the NEXT hardware revision. Seriously, if you have the need and money today, buy today. And eBay tomorrow if you really need to recoup some money to upgrade.

/soapbox :p

Prox Fix

I was experiencing the proximity issue from the day i received my iP4. Indeed, the issue is resolved with 4.1. I can pivot the bottom of the phone (far) away from my mouth and the screen no longer activates.

Yeah but the prox sensor is not at the bottom of the phone so pivoting the bottom of the phone away from your face wouldn't do anything. The sensor is above the earpiece.

I'm curious how well their implementation of HDR will work. HDR can look mediocre at best, if it's not done properly. But when it's done well... awesome.

I just don't want to see all photography go to HDR, because it creates a certain amount of laziness. e.g., instead of 'where should I position myself to get the best light on the subject?', it becomes 'I'll shoot from anywhere because HDR will 'fix' it'. There are times when this is fantastic, but from an artistic perspective, not always so.

>HDR can look mediocre at best, if it's not done properly. But when it's done well... awesome.

Knowing Apple's track record, you should not really ask the question.. They would not release it if it is mediocre at beat.
So, by default, I am going to assume the algorithms are well put together to make it look not mediocre.

It's fixed.....

Yeah but the prox sensor is not at the bottom of the phone so pivoting the bottom of the phone away from your face wouldn't do anything. The sensor is above the earpiece.

I can also pull the phone a good 1/2" away from my ear before the screen activates.

It's fixed. Chill.

Wheres my 4.1!? I woke up this morning excited to update, but nothing.... Where is it? :(

It'll probably be out at 10 am pacific time. That's when Apple does everything.

Ahh very true, I forgot they were Californians... that gives them a little over 20mins.... Im standing idly by.... Is anyone else? Can't wait for my 3G to b usable again.
