Mac Pro was 200% more popular than Mac Studio???
what… the mac pro sells three times as many mac studios… that’s utter BS… and I question these results if that’s something they are stating as fact…

As that untitled graphic includes the iMac, it's clearly not meant to show what's currently selling. I'd assume it's probably something like totals sold over all time or models still currently in use. Given the large number of Pros that used to be prevalent in video production etc and before laptops started to become credible alternatives, plus the fact that the Studio is relatively new on the scene, I'd say it's possible.

I'm surprised that the Mini doesn't make up a higher percentage of sales
People need laptops, plus M1 was so good nobody who bought Silicon needs an upgrade.
Like myself: I'd love an M4 but I don't really need it. Been using After Effects, Logic, Unity and more with dozens of Chrome tabs open, never managed to slow it down.

Mac mini is irrelevant in terms of sales units. The only reason Apple sells it is to democratize the development of iOS apps. At $599, it essentially helps maintain and expand the iOS ecosystem. It’s also a token way to tell the White House Apple is doing something to build in the U.S. But just don’t show them the graph below.

I mean idk why it’s so low. At $599 it’s the best specced computer windows or Mac. It has 16GB of memory and enough power to last years. The same can’t be said about windows machines at this price MSRP. You’ll get core ultra 5 maybe or a 7 but likely 8GB of memory and an inferior GPU.

Since US-produced goods are likely to become more expensive to the rest of the world (counter-tariffs), I'd imagine this is just for US sales and most of the production will remain in Asia?

So the MacPro sold more units than MacMini and MacStudio combined?
This statistic can't be correct.

I subscribed to CIRP’s Substack for a month a while back to see if I could learn something about their methodology. Nothing. They don’t explain how they get their numbers. At all. They did say in a reply to a question about Macs in the comments that it’s unit sales.

They got their start using surveys to produce by-model breakdowns of overall iPhone sales numbers provided by Apple, back when Apple did that. I think they were successful, but then Apple changed how it reports sales, and now they lack any way to interpret their own data. The raw data is probably useful to those who pay for it, so they’re still in business, but that pie chart is useless without knowing how they produced it.

Wow, assembly. This is where high standard/high cost of living countries should indeed be directing their workforce.
It's pretend work to appease the orange clown.
They will pull some poor schmucks from the local Amazon warehouse and that will be it.

Laptops and all in ones (iPads etc) will always sell more with the general public. Unless they are selling to enterprise (which isn’t apples strong point for desktops) I just don’t expect many sales of these things.

I often think Apple only makes desktop stuff to market to Apple enthusiasts as a marketing thing as they shout the loudest…

Hmm… doesn’t look right to me….?
I am sure the Mac mini outsold the Mac Studio which itself surely outsold the Mac Pro.

I do remember reading a story somewhere where it’s indicated that, for some recent iPhone numbers, they talked to 2000 people that folks at the company knew personally. Just like Gurman, they had some connections in the past that got them to the point where people will listen. And now, in this world where clickbait is more financially important than news, they just have to continue to throw things out there for relevance.

This graph is absolutely not accurate with the M4 generation and beyond. It’s outdated information.

Why was Trump even mentioned in the article? My 2013 Mac Pro was assembled in Texas years before.
Because the updated assembly plant was new and Trump tried to frame it as a revival of American manufacturing in 2019. Same as this ridiculous photo from the Foxconn plant that is basically his version of “Mission Accomplished.”

I didn't know Apple published this type of data. I assume the chart is sales$ not #units. So, they probably sell a lot more MBAs than MBPs, but they go for a lower price....which makes sense.

I agree that a big part of Apple's appeal has always been the way their devices work together and their ecosystem, so the Mac mini serves that purpose for iPhone users that needs a basic desktop and already has a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The new MacBook will probably fill this need as well for those that want portability.

The M4 series MacMini generated a LOT of good 'buzz' for Apple - strong positive reviews, YouTube influencer video reports, forum posts, etc. Apple hit the great trifecta - a reputation for excellence in performance, price and value all in one package, with the one 'fly in the ointment' being the galling upgrade costs if you wanted more RAM and SSD (which by today's cost-inflated standards no longer look so awful). Whatever its % market share, it's valuable for the good will and reputation it generates.

I, too, struggled with the MacMini vs. 14" MacBookPro question, at a $600 price difference at the time (IIRC), but I didn't anticipate moving it around, I've got an iPad Pro and old 2017 12" MacBook for on-the-go, and I like my 4K 27" Dell display well enough I'd miss it if I used the Mac in other parts of the house...which I doubt I'd do much. And the Mini sitting on my desk at minimum risk to be dropped or knocked off of something gives me more peace of mind. If I were a one device man, it'd be a MacBook Pro, but how many of us are one device people?

The Mini is not perfect (user upgradable SSD and a case we could open to blow the dust out of would be BIG improvements), but it rocks.
