Like myself: I'd love an M4 but I don't really need it. Been using After Effects, Logic, Unity and more with dozens of Chrome tabs open, never managed to slow it down.

Yep, I forget that my Mini M1 is now approaching 6 years old. It's still fast and fluent in all it does.

It's an amazingly capable computer for most people. I do a lot of pro audio tasks and have been rocking an M1 mac mini since day one and I've been liking it quite a bit.

Figures are from 2017 oecd. I suspect scaling them up, 1/7 is 15%, would work.

As you say the world is getting richer, it really is doing well, but there’s still a lot of countries ripe for finding cheaper labour.

That said, I don’t think that this assembly plant will require many/any employees handy with a screw driver. It will be largely automated.

yeah I'm not saying it's gonna "create jobs" I'm just saying the overall economics of domestic production might prove better in the next couple of decades and, maybe, with proper market regulation some day, could prevent what we're seeing with the RAM cartel.

Production costs will be significantly higher, and the price of these units should rise sharply in the US. If not, Apple is subsidizing these devices and will likely charge a higher price internationally than necessary, given the significantly lower production costs.

I’ve recently been thinking about whether it makes more sense to focus on bringing manufacturing to Mexico instead of the US. Cheaper labor AND it would address immigration at the southern border in a positive manner.

Billionaires like to get rich by minimising costs which they can never do paying western wages.
Americans are the biggest per capita consumers on the planet, they love lots of cheap stuff. This is hard to provide if you’re paying western wages.

Because the USA are supposed to be at the top of the World value chain.

Assembling a few screws is low paid, low value work. There's a reason this kind of stuff was outsourced to third world countries in the first place.

All parts can be made in asia but the final assembly and label print will be made in US. So the assembly time like 5mins + automated testing….

Mexico isn't an option. Asia is a lot more cheaper than any other places and yet, they have all infrastructures with the best know-how and labor skills.
