Oh look...another M1 Mac with only 2 TB ports. Where are all the geniuses who told me this was just a coincidence and not a deliberate change on Apple's part?

This one even has TWO MORE USB-C ports that could easily be TB ports. Why aren't they? Please oh geniuses, tell me all about how Apple is still going to have 4 TB ports on future AS Macs.

so the question now is, should you get an M1 Mac Mini or wait for a newly designed M1 MBP later this year. I don't want any of those hideous iMacs in my office.

This is probably one of the most disappointing iMac unveilings in the history of Apple.

Failed to address many key areas that iMac users wanted to be improved. Height adjustability, ugly chin and thick bezels. All of which are still present.

No black or space grey option either. It’s like they knew if they put one out nobody would buy any of those other colours.

Connectivity has also be drastically reduced.

Still using the M1 chip. Where’s a super powered chip specially designed for desktops? Seems they jumped the gun in changing CPU.

It seems to me that even Apple themselves are trying to hide the chin, or make it less obvious.
On a second thought, I really think the chin is larger now. I will stick with M1 Mac mini and the gorgeous 4K LG display.

Typical, the nay sayers are out in full force. Nothing is ever any good for them. Good. Less people ordering the new iMac so I can get mine sooner. I have had a used 2013 iMac for 7 years, can't wait to get me a new one, get out of the way losers.
That is horrible. It was designed by a 2 year old? Apple is living in the Stone Age in terms of design.

It is pretty obvious they have made it too thin again which is why the chin is there. You could see in the presentation that the logic board and CPU are behind the chin. That will be to stop heat from causing an issue with the display.

Wait....no HDR support?
Like for real?!?

Anyway I didn't expect a massive new chip, but at least a small improvement to the M1, like an M1x with support for 32GB of ram and better integrated GPU performance.
If that was the case, I would have purchased it.

I don't think, it will. Apple will you, to buy different dongles, hubs, card readers and such.
That's why I am constantly and slowly moving away from Apple products. Because they don't meet my needs.

The good thing is, there is enough alternatives, more than ever.

Sorry but dongles for a desktop is pretty poor - also you only get 2 thunderbolt ports and 2 usb c ports on the high end $1499 iMac the base level $1299 version only has two thunderbolt ports

Where's the bigger version? What if you want more than 8GB of RAM, or more than 512GB storage? This is the toy version. When does the larger version come out for content creators? Are we going to have to wait until fall?

WTF, Apple?

All my excitement died as soon as they didn't announce a 27" option

I don't care about expanding RAM and storage, I'm pretty much resigned to Macs being appliances at this point, and unless people are flay out lying the 8GB M1 looks capable enough for what I intend to do with it.

But the small screen is an absolute deal breaker for me.

IT STILL HAS A CHIN?!?!?!WHY!!!
Cooling, board, and speakers. Six speakers - the two bass pairs are as thick as the panel, so they place them under the panel. Also, speakers work best with lots of space around them. The surround sound effect needs what is basically a soundbar. I thought they might even offer a speaker bar, but less of the chin.

The choice to emphasize the sound, while keeping the system nearly silent. Moving the speakers up would at least double the thickness, maybe more, and change the audio characteristics. It managed Dolby Atmos certification.

I do remember the iMac lampshade we owned came with three speakers, two clear on the side and an optional subwoofer. I loved those little speakers. That could have been another path taken, but Apple (and other companies) want to sell all-in-one boxes.

I feel like this was a huge miss:

Still had the chin (make thicker and remove chin. No one care about thinner desktops)
White chrome, despite the colors.
Don’t like the colors.
Matte glass option?
Only 16gb of Memory? This is a desktop afterall….

Let’s hope there is an iMac Pro coming. This seems like a computer aimed at kids, not professionals.

Stunning design, but still wished Apple offered a 32 GB RAM option for the new iMac. That would have finished off most Intel based machines intended for business use.
