I want that Touch ID keyboard. Are they selling it separately/is it compatible with previous Macs??

I thought they were pretty boring at first glance but they're growing on me.

I'll probably replace my 2016 Macbook Pro with one of these once it starts showing its age or start falling apart on me.

Love the screen size. My 24" 2008 iMac was perfect and when they moved to 21.5" and 27" options I never really cared for either. 21.5" felt a bit too small and 27" was a bit too large.

And man oh man I have no idea how I'd pick an iMac color. Blue matches my current iPhone, Orange is probably my actual favorite color of the bunch, Green is the closest to the old Bondi Blue '98 iMac.

The chin&bezel whinging makes me laugh too. Like MR has ever been right about an Apple product.

I think this is actually worse than the shock of the 2016 MacBook Pro introduction. I am simply astounded that people here thought that what Apple introduced today was not completely consistent with what Apple does. They are all in shock and proceed to the third stage of grief almost instantly. I think it's hilarious. I mean, the thing isn't even out the door and everyone has already made this judgement about it (which they'll be wrong about as usual) and they all say they want change and then Apple changes it and they now all want the old black bezels back, OMG it doesn't have an SD Card slot, why isn't ethernet on the mother board (duh, the ethernet jack is thicker than the fracking iMac) and on and on and on...I'm dying over here from laughter. They say they want progress, but progress comes and they all realize what they wanted was on their terms and that's not how Apple or any successful innovative company stays successful. Everyone here wants a damn Snuggy, that's not Apple.

This is why I hate the “renders” and “concepts” that people post. Who the hell would have pedicted this ugly design? And yet this is what we got. Where are you renders now?

At this point, better buy a mac mini and a good monitor
That way, in few years you can buy a better screen if you wich ;)

Love that they kept the chin (use for posit notes) but why no Apple logo on the chin - strange they missed this. Most iMacs will be against walls or facing the back of desks and the Apple logo will be hidden. Apple marketing/design guys sometimes miss the obvious.

I wonder whether we will see a larger iMac with a smaller chin branded iMac Pro later this year? Perhaps WWDC. This strikes me as the average consumer iMac.
That’s what I was thinking. Maybe better iMacs with black bezels will be announced alongside new M2 chips in June?

No more elegant black bevel around screen (even as an option?)

I guess five minutes with a sharpie would take care of that :)

The imac with its back to a wall was always a bit of a pain to pull usb n lightning devices in and out of, but at least the silver color masked most of the scratches doing that blind almost invariably inflicted On these candy colored ones scratches around the ports would stick out like a sore thumb

and 7 different SKUs each for keyboards, trackpads and mice too..

I'm surprised they kept the chin! I thought they would remove that (it would look like a 24" iPad docked on the keyboard station).

Honestly, this iMac seems to be the entry level for the family members who use email, internet, iTunes, pretty much basic apps. I think a 27"/34" will be coming later this year (hopefully no chin, and only silver and gray) which I hope will be considered the PRO version of the iMac. I hope they don't have 3 types of iMac because that would be ridiculous!

They look like iPads on a stand/holder. Those colors are clearly meant for study from home kids. the wait continues..

Cons:
- Surprisingly ugly new design. Even something as simple as black bezels might have made it more appealing.
- Same M1 from 6 months ago, no iteration, no additional memory.
- No Face ID despite every reason and opportunity to include it.
- No replacement for the 27" iMac.
- Very few usable ports.
- New keyboards still are not backlit.

Pros:
- Neat power cord?
TouchID >>>> FaceID

I have too many computers to get one with a nice big ol screen that can't be used as a screen for my other systems. I'll still be able to get an iMac for work though once they have ones with pro performance. If I didnt already buy the m1 macbook air this might be an option, but I don't see compelling reasons to get this if you already have an m1 mac. Not until these run noticeably faster chips than the m1.
