At this point, better buy a mac mini and a good monitor
That way, in few years you can buy a better screen if you wich ;)
Have to agree with you on this one since it has the same HW as Mac mini but with a very nice monitor. Kinda surprised they didn't upgrade the GPU vs the M1 processor.

  • No SD card reader
  • No USB A
  • Only 2 Thunderbolt Ports on the base model / 2 TB and 2 USB C on the high end
  • White bezels
  • Chin...
  • No black/space grey
  • Mouse still charges in the base
  • Touch ID keyboard only comes standard on the $1499 version - base still has the normal non touch id magic keyboard (will be a spec option I guess)

Kinda expected more from Apple for their main desktop machine

Lol. This is so funny. This is replacing the 21 inch. Not the 27. They even said that. This is for students people who work at home etc. Not professional offices. You need the chin for cooling. How do you expect to cool the device. If there was no chin the back would be super thick. And I would rather have a chin and lots of people don’t really care. There is a redesigned 27 inch coming. Like it’s not that hard to figure out. The macrumors people are so funny. They live in their own bubble and act like they are the target market for these products
I agree with pretty much all of this, except that the fate of the 27" is less clear to me (which is too bad, because I would have jumped at the bigger one). Beyond that, you're entirely correct. The chin allows for much better cooling, and I for one like it as a design feature. It adds some color to the front (yay!) and I've always found it a convenient place for sticky notes and a nice way to tilt the screen without touching it. I'd greatly prefer this to a chinless version of the same thing.

My guess is the colors and white bezel indicate this is the consumer model. There will be a pro model with darker colors and probably black bezels and maybe no chin?

The “chin” is where all the tech is, speakers, logic board, cooling, it’s necessary, even if it’s ugly, not sure why they removed the logo

Apple should take all the tech out of the display and put it in a little box (with internal battery and external power supply), connected to the display with one thunderbolt cable supplying both power and video. It'd look so much better and be so much more useful. Is there still a benefit to an all-in-one iMac, especially with no portability or expandability?

Interesting it looks like base model has no ethernet. I noticed on their business site that it looks like you will be able to get it without the stand and it can be vesa mounted.

I think this is actually worse than the shock of the 2016 MacBook Pro introduction. I am simply astounded that people here thought that what Apple introduced today was not completely consistent with what Apple does. They are all in shock and proceed to the third stage of grief almost instantly. I think it's hilarious. I mean, the thing isn't even out the door and everyone has already made this judgement about it (which they'll be wrong about as usual) and they all say they want change and then Apple changes it and they now all want the old black bezels back, OMG it doesn't have an SD Card slot, why isn't ethernet on the mother board (duh, the ethernet jack is thicker than the fracking iMac) and on and on and on...I'm dying over here from laughter. They say they want progress, but progress comes and they all realize what they wanted was on their terms and that's not how Apple or any successful innovative company stays successful. Everyone here wants a damn Snuggy, that's not Apple.
Give it like, 5 years and people will love it. As I recall there was a lot of iMac G3 nostalgia here not too long ago, “when Apple computers had a sense of fun!”
This is basically a modern G3.

I would have preferred they made it thicker and remove the chin. I'll never understand apples obsession with thinness

A desktop with No user upgradeable RAM nor storage, and with all base models only come with 8GB RAM, ensuring quicker SSD wear and sooner upgrades. Very smart Tim. I knew Apple is switching business model, just didn’t realize it’s intentionally gimping the hardware so you have to upgrade sooner.

I can't even begin ... like ... is this real? First, they not only keep the bezels, they make them white?!?!?!? The chin is bad enough, but they don't even launch a bigger size to complement the 24?!?!?! Sorry, but I'd get everyone in a room in charge of these decisions and fire them yesterday. Wow, just wow......

Wth, no way will you see something like this in a professional environment. Atleast give us a choice for a silver or black model and give us black bezels!
This thing has just 4 USB/TB ports - the Pro model will come in Summer together with the MacBook Pros

VESA mount option confirmed. I’m tempted but don’t actually need an iMac 😂

I was a bit annoyed at the lack of a bigger option but after looking at the site and seeing that it’s ports and tiny ssd choices that separate the different models oh and colour choice!
that’s it, no actual options!? What the actual?
Nope, I got excited at an orange iMac but now I’m just not interested in a big fixed iPad.
