It looks like a wonderful machine for most people. For me, the screen is too small, the white bezels are making me recoil and it has the same power as my M1 Mac Mini. That also has more connectivity and I got it for only $619. I'll stick with that.

  • No SD card reader
  • No USB A
  • Only 2 Thunderbolt Ports on the base model / 2 TB and 2 USB C on the high end
  • White bezels
  • Chin...
  • No black/space grey
  • Mouse still charges in the base
  • Touch ID keyboard only comes standard on the $1499 version - base still has the normal non touch id magic keyboard (will be a spec option I guess)

Kinda expected more from Apple for their main desktop machine
So wait for the iMac Pro instead of their 'entry level' iMac.

It is for the office, student, home and the average user. Light colours, low end . Perfect fit for that user base.

High end users - look at WWDC for introduction of a "Pro" lines.

I thought they were pretty boring at first glance but they're growing on me.

I'll probably replace my 2016 Macbook Pro with one of these once it starts showing its age or start falling apart on me.

Love the screen size. My 24" 2008 iMac was perfect and when they moved to 21.5" and 27" options I never really cared for either. 21.5" felt a bit too small and 27" was a bit too large.

And man oh man I have no idea how I'd pick an iMac color. Blue matches my current iPhone, Orange is probably my actual favorite color of the bunch, Green is the closest to the old Bondi Blue '98 iMac.

Ok, so the white bezel is a reference to the old iMac. Still looks ugly, though. And it's missing something in the middle, an Apple logo or an iMac lettering, anything really.

First impressions aren't great if I'm honest. I absolutely loved the look of the current iMac when it was announced in 2012 but I think this might be a grower or maybe not even that. As others have said, why a chin and why big bezels? I'm also not a fan of the stand at all and much prefer the previous one.

Lol. This is so funny. This is replacing the 21 inch. Not the 27. They even said that. This is for students people who work at home etc. Not professional offices. You need the chin for cooling. How do you expect to cool the device. If there was no chin the back would be super thick. And I would rather have a chin and lots of people don’t really care. There is a redesigned 27 inch coming. Like it’s not that hard to figure out. The macrumors people are so funny. They live in their own bubble and act like they are the target market for these products
Unless the M1 chip is bonded to the aluminum chin the chin is not used to cool anything. The motherboard has two fans. Novel idea to cool a processor with fans.

Ugh, I was ready to buy this before even seeing it. But no 27" display?!? No vesa mount option?? Guess tall people are screwed. 7 ugly COLORS AND NO SPACE GREY?!? Wish they made the bezels smaller and got rid of the bottom bezel, even if it were thicker, who cares about speakers?! This isn't a portable device, who cares about thickness, I wanted a cleaner front. Any why get rid of the Apple logo on the front?! The price is good, but they just f'd a giant segment of their iMac customers. And without any reasonably priced non-pro Apple monitors, my only option is an iMac mini with a 3rd party display at this point if I want an M1. Seriously WTF Apple!?!
Uhh. This is to replace the 21 inch. Not the 27. Lol. That one is still coming. We all know the rumours.

I don't know anyone who still uses 24" display, regardless of this doesn't seem worth it considered its just a glorified Mac mini with same specs. Obviously the 27" or 30" will come in June and would be surprised if it didn't. If you've waited this long better to wait another 2 months with upgraded CPU and GPU. At this price point not worth buying and don't really care for colours, in fact they are distracting in my opinion.

Really disappointed. Hate the chin, the white bezel, most of the colors, no USB-A, no SD card reader, same M1 chip as the fall, and only 8-core.

I guess my expectations where too high. But geez, all they did was put the Mac mini into an iMac enclosure. The good news is that I guess I will continue to save money and wait for M2-based iMac.

You can keep that crap with those FRUITY colors! I don't mind the chin much, but give me a SPACE GRAY or BLACK option! No height adjustment or VESA mount, either?! Just tilting, huh? 🤮 NO THANKS. 🤮

For my needs, I would have preferred to be able to mount this iMac on a monitor mount. I like preserving desk space.

Also, couldn't they just make a 24" iPad Pro looking device with no chin?

FFS, this thing should FLOP but they'll likely sell millions of them. They certainly won't sell as many as they could have, though. I'll wait for something else.

I for one don’t care for the color choices ...
And am surprised how large the chin still is.Need to wait for a tear down to get some more insights into this design choice.

and what does that mean for the rumored 32” model? With that chin probably no 32, or, make it thicker and remove the chin?

The SSD size options are anemic. The highest is 512? I can get more storage in an iPad than my home computer? Not in the market but its not a good trend.
The highest option is 2 TB SSD, but you will bleed out of your wallet.

16 GB RAM in an iMac is a joke....
Don't you remember, that 640K is enough?

Sorry but dongles for a desktop is pretty poor - also you only get 2 thunderbolt ports and 2 usb c ports on the high end $1499 iMac the base level $1299 version only has two thunderbolt ports
Don't tell me, say that to Apple: vote with your wallet!

Never mind whining about the chin, what about the (lack of) storage? 256GB or 512GB is nowhere near enough.
