Mmm ... I don't mind the chin but the use of white on the front of the unit - I just don't get it. I'm reasonably sure that continuing the chin's lighter colour across the whole front would make more sense that white.

As a designer, I need a black frame around my screens -- this would be fine as a domestic unit and I can't wait to give one a go, in an Apple Store.

Just that white ... reminds me of that bonkers iPod Nano

It is for the office, student, home and the average user. Light colours, low end . Perfect fit for that user base.

High end users - look at WWDC for introduction of a "Pro" lines.
It's not so general. Most people are fine with a laptop, and those who want a bigger screen can connect one. The iMac is a strange product to me now. Used to make a lot more sense, back when laptops were slow and towers were ugly.

Guess it's for if you want a light office workstation that also looks nice (i.e. customers might be seeing it), which makes sense with the colors. And I like the colors.

That white bezel will take some gettin' used to. To say the least.

How about an all black model - with black bezels? Now that would be sweet.

We've had two size options for the longest time. Shocked Apple is limiting us to 24". I'd almost rather get the Mac mini and pair it with a larger monitor.

I don't know anyone who still uses 24" display, regardless of this doesn't seem worth it considered its just a glorified Mac mini with same specs.
Unless you’ve got a 5/6K display, going bigger than 24” is just trading picture quality for physical size.

That doesn’t mean I think this machine is great. But like the previous m1s - it specifically only replaced the entry level product.

Clearly so.

Apple will probably release a larger and stronger iMac model later on (probably together with the upcoming 16" MBPs), but they won't be iMac "Pros".

The iMac Pro was a stop-gap solution until Apple got their sh— together and came up with a proper Mac Pro again. The concept is dead and buried.
No, that's just a tired and trite explanation that is 2 years old. It doesn't fit with the current landscape.

Look at the products released so far for Apple Silicon.

What remains are the Pro products. A Pro level iMac and Pro level MacBooks. These machines will be the first ones to use something other than M1.

I couldn’t care less. I never had an iMac and never will. A MacBook with a nice monitor is way better than this.
what is a good 4K monitor to pair with either MBA or mini? I've never looked at them but may have to now...

The 27” is not “replaced” yet. Just as with the previous m1 releases, they’re starting from the entry level machines.

There WILL be a Pro model, guaranteed. Different chip, Space Gray (and darker colors), 30+ inch screen.

That being said, what can a M1 Mac with 16gb ram NOT do?

This is a great entry device for a home computer and the price.

Yeah, the bezels are white and it has a chin. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this.

Chin was probably decided to keep, otherwise people would complain its just an iPad on a stand. So they added in better speakers & color to justify it and make it slightly different

Ethernet is in the power supply, but for the old USB plug you'll have to get some USB-C converter/dongle.

Better yet, USB-C cables. They're incredibly inexpensive - around $7. First thing I did when I purchased my 2017 MBP four years ago..
