I was going to say that I liked the reader feature of Safari 5, but it's more important that I mention I got the first kernel panic EVER on my 13" MBP while using Safari 5.
Hopefully it's a one time occurrence.

Shortcut

Does anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut to activate Reader? I've used Reader about 15 times :D in the last couple of hours since Safari 5 came out. I love Reader but I don't like searching for the button.
Thanks!

EDIT: I found it under the View menu

So far working fine with Click2Flash, Safari Adblocker, and Safari Cookies. :)

Really like the new Reader feature.

Not sure if anyone mentioned, but there is now an undo closed tab option CMD Z under Edit. Yeah !!!

Netflix issues

For those having netflix issues, try this per the apple support forums

"The customer service rep talked me through this temporary fix:

1 - Activate the Develop menu in Safari and switch the User Agent to Safari 4.1 (Safari will auto-reload the page once you do this)
2 - (if logged in to Netflix) Log out of Netflix and then log back in under older User Agent.
3 - Netflix streams again!

Notes:
(1) Customer Service Rep said I would have to do this each time I re-start Safari because the User Agent setting defaults back to auto when Safari starts.
(2) I also noticed that the User Agent setting is only for the current tab (I browse using several tabs)...just FYI for everyone."

Thanks to all!

The new Reader feature is superb. Simply superb. Great UI, and I haven't come across a page that'll mess it up yet (it doesn't show as an option on some, but generally seems to do a good job at detecting "article" pages).

Sorry Apple but I tired out Safari 5 and it still doesn't beat Google Chrome 5.

+1

I'd like to use Apple's browser, but there are too many things that still bother me/ don't work the way I'd like. Here are some of the reasons I'll be sticking with Chrome:

-Unified address/search bar. No time for stubbornness here, Apple. Admit that Chrome's way is better and follow suit. Aren't you supposed to be all about streamlined UI?
-Tabs on top. A matter of personal preference, but I strongly prefer Chrome's layout.
-Tab behavior. For example, why can't Safari duplicate a tab with history in tact, which is extremely useful? In Chrome, it's as easy as right clicking the tab - very intuitive.
-Full screen. Safari reader is nice, but if you want to minimize distractions, why not have a full screen option like every other browser? Sorry, maximize isn't just for Windows dummies.
-Tab key to search any site. Another great feature of the Chrome omnibar. How can Safari tout adding Bing support as a feature? Chrome allows you to set ANY search engine as your default, and switch between them on the fly with the tab to search feature. Congrats, Apple, on adding ONE more choice to your default list.

I hope Safari copies the best of Chrome while introducing new ideas like the reader. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that Apple will stick to their guns on UI elements like the separate search and address bars, out of pride, when they could be catching up to Google.

Reader? HTML5? Extensions? Meh.

All I care about is that we finally have our inline progress bar back!!! :D

That is all.

RAM issue?!

So i have iStat installed. When using itunes and firefox 3.6 my RAM usage doesnt go above 1.21GB.

decided to try safari 5 out, and i noticed that The more i surf the more my RAM usage goes up, seems that about every page I go to the usage goes up by about .01-.02 GB. So while i don't go above 1.21 with firefox, i get up to about 1.35 only after a few minutes of surfing.

Both only had 1 tab open, and firefox has a few extensions

I like the new safari, I've always been a firefox person, at least on the windows platform, and I still think firefox is probably the best browser out there, BUT its still slow in comparison to google chrome and safari.. they seem to be faster, but they def use more memory.. Safari 5 in windows is fugly and not fun to use.. I use Safari as my default browser on Snow Leopard, but in Windows I'm currently liking Opera..

I agree with many of these things. But it is menu behavior of the bookmark that killed for me in chrome. Chrome just does a ton of ookie non-standard things off of long and/or nested menus. Of which I have several in my bookmarks. And I simply cannot navigate to some stuff in my bookmarks, that I can quite easily in Safari. Unfortuanately, this is a showstopper, for me personally, because I run into the behavior at least hourly.

It is my second choice browser though.
