I agree, they're absolutely terrible.

You're also forced into having a "bookmark it" button since Apple has now made it part of the address bar. I always previously removed the bookmark button. And the stop/refresh button has completely disappeared.

On the other hand, the full zoom feature is excellent. I can live with the horrible tabs just for that.

The lack of a stop/refresh button is inexcusable, however.

I used it to log in to Mobile Me and it seems to be just as slow as Firefox and Safari 3. I am using it now to post this message.

Still no exchange support for my university email here! That's one of the only reasons I am currently having to stick to using Firefox.

I must say though that Safari 4 does have a beautiful UI and does generally seem a lot faster.

So I just installed it and it wouldn't start at all. I clicked on Safari and it would automatically crash. So I'm back to 3 now, but I guess i might give it another shot later. :(

Looks really cool, I like the new tab system and top sites is neat... Unfortunately, with 1password integration and mouse wheel scrolling broken I don't have much use for it yet!

it still "sucks" without features like "NoScript" or "AddBlock" like the ones in firefox...:( I just can't stand the adds and flashy banners:(

Does anyone know how this compares to the dev preview? I'm about to start the beta download now. I've been using the dev preview for a while now and it is pretty solid.

I just upgraded from the Dev Preview. You won't regret it. The new underpinnings for developers makes it a no brainer. The presentation is a leap forward as well.

The tab size scales to the total number of tab views, with respect to the entire global window view. It's logical.

And the stop/refresh button has completely disappeared.

I've just noticed there's a little refresh icon at the far-right of the address bar. It doesn't double as a stop button but at least refresh hasn't disappeared completely (although that's a really stupid place to put it IMO).

Definitely not as fast as Firefox 3 on Windows. Plus I HATE the new look. Chrome, anyone?

..still you can't change the default search engine to eg. google.co.uk....go and figure out what's the reason behind it!

Downloading now. I'll be interested to see what the CSS3 support and JS performance are like.

For anyone who doesn't want to replace their Safari 3 just yet but wants Cover Flow history, try the SafariStand plugin -- it has had this feature for quite awhile. It's the only place I've ever found Cover Flow useful. It's great! Ashame Apple had to place this feature in the main browser window like its standard bookmarks though. If you don't want to leave the current page you have to first open a new bookmark or tab. I prefer SafariStand's method of opening one of those translucent black panes.

Significant achievement

Wow - Apple is creative. They made it look even more crappy on Windows.

Seriously :apple: - w.h.y bother?

Unfortunately i couldn't install it to test out the new features...

Somehow it does not want to install on my harddisk?
Is there an obvious mistake i'm doing to install it? Do I have to erase Safari 3 first? (I'm using a Macbook with 10.5.6)

Screenshot is in german and says "You cannot install Safari on this volume: ERROR_SEC"

Thanks for any help!

Next to the blue RSS box.... that is where the stop/refresh button has gone.

It's sad people can't visualize changes the moment they try something out. It reminds me when people describe an accident scene and you have to wonder how it's possible to get so many divergent perceptions.

am i the only one getting an error trying to install it? When i have to select the drive it says it cant install on the drive ERROR_SEC. anyone that can help me?:)

Wowzers. This browser is quite a nice change, and it IS a lot faster. The old one was getting funky in the last few months.

I love the coverflow option.
