Memory requirement?

So were the Coverflow and the little animation of zooming in when you selected a site from the Top Site list, done by CSS animation as well?

Was trying to tell my Windows flatmate to install Safari 4 on his Windows machine, memory requirement was the first thing he asked.

BLECHH!!!
I HATE THIS
I WANT THE USER INTERFACE TO LOOK LIKE I'M USING A MAC
BUT IT LOOKS LIKE FUGLY INTERNET EXPLORER
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN PUT FEEDBACK??!!?
CUZ I WANT APPLE TO PUT IN THE PREFERENCES TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE SAFARI 3 INTERFACE
RAGING MAD!!

Capslock key working? Check!
Lack of correct spelling? Check!
Brain switched off during immature rant? Check!

I actually like it and it's super fast. I don't mind the tab bar either... it saves more space than the old one. Only thing I don't like about it is how the "add bookmark" button is now included in the address bar and the "stop/refresh" button is also included in the address bar. Oh well... just minor things.

Good job Apple.

Nearly peed myself reading this. :D

Seriously, I like this new interface, and although it might look like IE, it works much better than it does. I believe that I will try out Chrome for Mac before I say that this is the most advanced and cool browser. (Although if we're going for the best browser, I would say it is still Firefox) But, when I'm home, I enjoy using Safari because it is snappier than Firefox is.

not too happy

I tried it for a while. Not too happy - I hope they fix some things before launching the final version.

PROs... Top Sites, cover flow... but nothing too spectacular.

CONS: I hate the tabs being on the very top. I hope they put them back where they are in the current version once the Beta is over, since its easier to use. For now it seems slower tan Safari ver.3.0. Another thing I miss is the stop/refresh button.

I also hope the new version to be faster and more secure.

For now, I already uninstalled it- the tab's position was way too annoying. The top sites feature isn't worth it.

Flip4Mac

This thing is as fast as lightning. Only issue I have so far is Flip4Mac seems to only play audio but no video. The same wmv file plays with full audio/video on Firefox. Anyone have any ideas?

It looks like SafariBlock is OS X only. :(

crap ... there was another one.. google a safari ad block and see if you come up with anything that might work for ya. Before installing SafariBlock i was looking at another one but it's slips my mind now.. sorry.

Had you bothered reading through this thread you would've discovered that all those things are possible... just a little digging, that's all!!

I hate the tabs on top!

If there was one feature to steal from Google Chrome, why did they have to take the "tabs on top"... yuck!!!

Only short comings I've come across so far:
Tabs can't be made by double clicking the empty tab area (as there is none)

cmd-t

Tabs can't be rapidly deleted by clicking in the same spot as the tabs adjust size whenever a new one is made/old one closed.

cmd-w as many times as necessary
cmd-shift-left or cmd-shift-right to get to whatever tab you want to start at if you want to keep the current one open

There is a very small area that you can actually grab to drag a tab, unlike Safari 3 where the entire tab was drag-able.

Agreed, that's annoying. I'm debating between switching back to the old tab style and leaving it as is; the only thing keeping me from switching back is the fact that it does look sleeker with the smaller amount of space taken up by the taskbar at the top.

You could have just as easily restored the tabs to the previous position, as described several times in this thread.

Pretty good!

I like it. I agree with those that say it's a chrome knockoff on windows. It definitely is, but chrome has nicer animations during movement of tabs and minimizing the bookmarks bar...

HOWEVER, I personally don't really like the way the tabs are made. Unlike old style tabs, which have a set size, and only shrink when thousands of tabs are made, apple has decided to divide the size of the window by the number of tabs to determine tab size. While I can understand their thinking, it's really awkward to have my tabs constantly switching sizes.

Hopefully, Apple will have a customization in their settings that allows this to be changed to user preference. Or maybe I'll just get used to it.

Still isn't working for me. Not sure why.
I'm up to date with all of my software (10.5.6 and all that jazz).

Interesting that the Mac version is so much faster than the Windows XP version (not surprisingly, perhaps). The new top sites feature is like silk on my MBP, which is a welcome bonus, but then Apple apps on Windows have always been massive resource hogs.

The Mac version of Safari 4 in particular looks very un-Apple-like - in fact it looks more like a lot of the other browsers. I know they are trying to minimise the space that the toolbar takes up but isn't the slim space between address bar and tabs breaking Apple interface guidelines?!! :p

I'm just disappointed they got rid of the blue status bar progress indicator. I really liked that...
