Support forum and "on their site" are two completely different things. And it's probably not Apple's fault. Safari 4 is good (if not the best) at sticking to web standards.

BB&T's site actually!!

im really excited to see support for upcoming HTML 5 and CSS 3, the top sites feature is nice, but the evenly divided tabs is weird, why cant tabs have a common min-width like they do in the previous version?

Yeah it seems backwards to me. The tab color scheme is reversed from what it should be at least according to OS/X color coordination.

Is this not the same as Safari 4? Light colored tab is active?

I've been using Safari hardcore all day and I must say this is FAST. I guess I can stop using Firefox again but I do wish Stumbleupon was available for Safari.

I have been running Safari 4 all day with 10 tabs open and I have to say I really like it. It is definitely faster than Safari 3+ on my old PowerBook. The Show Top Sites is really cool and I use it almost like spaces.

Two thumbs up on Safari 4!

New tab bar doesn't have the breadcrumb URL when right clicked (or command clicked), I really like that so I disabled the tab bar on top.

Tried it. Don't like it.

I suspect lots of people will like this, but not me. I tried it and am going back to Safari 3. Some of the changes are nice. My problem is the absolute lack of choice for the user. While I can see some people preferring the new tabs, I hate them. It's just my personal preference. But with this, I have no choice. It's pretty much take it or leave it. After a couple hours with it, I am going back. Here are my dislikes:

-- Tabs on top? OK, but I prefer mine the old way. Apple gives me no choice.
-- Tab width changes depending on how many you have? I hate this.
-- "+" button for adding favorites? I don't need or like this. I can add a favorite through the menu just fine and this button is just clutter. Apple gives no choice to remove it.
-- No button to stopping or reloading a page? I use this all the time. It's not available in Safari 4.
-- "+" button for adding a new tab. I don't need or want this. This is minor, but I would like to be able to turn it off. Apple gives me no choices.
-- In short, the "Preferences" are pretty much "Apple's way" or "Apples way".

I like it for the most part other than these few irritants. Maybe it's faster, but I couldn't notice it. All the "new" features are fine but just eye candy for me. I can live without them. If only they would have added these new features and given the user the choice on the rest. Oh, well. :(

I did have a few pages that refused to render correctly. They wouldn't wrap at the end of the sentence, but I suspect this will be ironed out.

My recommendation is to wait and watch this. That's what I plan to do.

Wow. I just finished installing Safari 4 on Windows and when I opened it I was confused. It looks exactly the same as Google Chrome. The only difference is that there are two bars at the top (address and google search) instead of 1 like Chrome and the Bookmarks Bar doesn't show the website thumbnails like Chrome. Other than those two things the Safari 4 on Windows interface looks exactly the same as Chrome.

They look different to me.

I like the new Safari, much snappier :p

Only problem is that it broke Mail for me. I uninstalled it and Mail worked again, installed it one more time and again Mail broke. Don't know why it's happening. I'll try repairing permissions when I get near a power plug and see if that works.

hotmail e-mail will not open after downloading safari 4

As soon as I downloaded safari 4 and went to my hotmail account, I found I could not open any of my e-mails. I went to Firefox and opened hotmail and that let me open my hotmail e-mails. But I still cannot open hotmail e-mails on safari. Anyone else having this problem? Please e-mail me if you have an answer.

as strange as it is, i think that this safari is quite quick smooth and responcive.. Unless i am browsing apples safari page. The one where they tell the features. Its totally skippy when i try to scroll down. I dunno why?

Websites still load extremely slow, and the java sites giving me issues...still give me issues. (im on 312k line)

Top list, or whatever, has crashed Safari 4 times.
Also, the list seems random, in that it deletes, and changes the position of the sites I put in there...buggy, this is not a feature. (Ive submitted a report.)

So, from what I have experienced, its pretty much what it claims to be...beta.
Interesting for sure, but not stable on my g4 powerbook 667 mhz with slow internet connection. :D

Peace

dAlen

Ahhh, I wondered who was the last eWorld user still online. Turn off the lights on your way out please. :p:D

Why TF did they ditch the blue loading status bar??? It's clearly better than some hardly noticeable spinning circle.

If you read through the posts on this thread, you'll find solutions to all of those issues (I'm running Safari 4 with the tabs where they were in Safari 3 and it's much better!)

Anybody know how to get the tabs and blue loading bar back to normal on Windows Vista?

You talking to me? ;)
Does it really matter if you can see how much of a site has loaded? There are tons of elements that are actually loading on a site, and a one dimensional (it only goes one direction, the image is 2D, don't worry I'm aware) can't convey all that info. I think the spinny icon is slicker and makes more sense.

PS: Why would you want it noticeable? It's just distracting, when you should be looking at a site, not if it's 40% vs 50% loaded.
