Anyone think this iPad Air is going to be the next iPad 3?

It is such a minor upgrade.. I don't think it can carry the premium tablet torch for a whole 12 months. I would not be the least surprised if, after the holidays, they come out with an iPad Air 2 that has, at the bare minimum, an A7X chip in it, probably touch id (by then, supplies shouldn't be so constrained), and possibly camera upgrades. Maybe even the rumored larger screen.

And with Apple giving away so much for free, give us 32GB for $499, dang it! I'd rather have 32GB base storage than iWork.

Anyone else seeing the iPad Pro coming in July with touch id and A7X processor and better battery life?

$400 for the iPad Mini? No Touch ID? No multi-user accounts? Hello Nexus 7.

Goodbye sir and I sincerely hope you take all the dramatic-ball dropping - compulsively decisive - quick judging people with you ..

I cannot say I'm surprised but I'm sure as hell not disappointed .. Before making any judgment I for one would like to see it in person

Let's hope for the best :)

So.. iPad Air got better dimensions and weight, and that's about it. Same processor as a phone. It may be a great processor, but iPad pushes a lot more pixels. Will it even be as fast?

They mentioned "2x increase in rendering" in the keynote, which should mean an increase in rendering power from the A6X of the iPad 4. So it's probably not just an A7, but an A7 with a more powerful GPU.
The one in the iPhone 5s wasn't the highest performance option of the PowerVR "Rogue" GPUs, so I'd guess the iPad is using the better GPU.

The iPad Mini on the other hand will probably use the exact same SoC as the iPhone 5s.

Why would anyone buy the iPad 2nd gen for $100 less than the 5th gen?

Surely far better off buying a used 4th gen for the same money

Especially at that insane price.

Schools!

Every sane regular customer would buy an iPad Mini Retina at that price, but schools have infrastructures that are tailored for the old iPad form factor and more important - the Dock Connector.

With a cart full of 20 iPads and integrated charging system - you can't just update a few of them to the iPad Mini Retina or iPad Air - you'd need to update all of them at the same time.

So it's cheaper for them to replace broken iPad 2 with - a new iPad 2, even if it is less bang for the buck than an iPad Air.

Biggest problem I have with the current iPad is the bulk and weight. Well the new one is 40% thinner and almost 30% lighter, this is gonna help a lot with holding it for reading and stuff.

A really, REALLY stupid name change... but I still like it nonetheless. But seriously?

Yea, I'm bummed about two things and that's one of them. I was really hoping for 32GB starting.

Second thing was no Touch ID. :(
At least there's a 128 GB model now... but the 16 GB really needs to die as the base option.

I understand the usefulness of the iPad, but I think we all have to step back and realize that the Mac is a much better product. The iPad has some really great niche uses (music, education, etc.), but it's in so many ways still incredibly frustrating, for me at least.

Most of the people that I know who try to make it work as their computer really have to try to make it work as their computer. And that's not how it should be at all.

Gorgeous! Decided iPad Air over getting a new iPad mini! Can't wait! Overall a great event and I'm not overly jealous of the new MacBook Pros having only gotten mine in June. Odd that there isn't a specific release date for the iPad mini though!

This exactly is what I surmised too. I'm guessing it's an A7X but they just call it an A7 for simplicity's sake. Interesting stuff, can't wait for a thorough review. Perhaps they used an IGZO display to keep the power consumption down.

I get why no touch id since I'm sure the parts are constrained enough but this will be tough for 5S owners. We are so used to it now investing $500 in a new iPad that still has slide to unlock will be silly. I dunno I may get a mini with retina in nov

Best things in my life:
#1. Traveling
#2. iGadgets

Can not wait to carry my (mini) iPad Air in my next trip.
