The prices seem fair. Don't forget when comparing to the nexus how much bigger the mini screen is vs the nexus, especially now that the density is the same.

But definitely scratching my head over the iPad 2. I can't believe they're still selling something with a non-lightning connector, but I guess they still sell the 4S too.

No Touch ID - no sell for me I'm afraid.

all of a sudden something youd never seen before a month ago is absolutely necessary. huh.

touch ID sensors are supply constrained -- theyre whats slowing iphone production down. apple wisely chose to give preference to the iphone since more people lock them than ipads, which more often sit in your house. eventually theyll trickle down.

The disappointment here is basically the 16GB option, which is frankly tiny, and for $500... Come on.

Lack of Touch ID seems to be pretty obvious though, and no hardfeelings for that.

i'm somewhat disappointed that no touch id, but I am excited that 128 gb will be available to both iPads and retina for the mini. Cant wait to get both. Am hoping for preorder option.

Big, huge, monstrous mistake.

Rename your flagship product, are you kidding me.

'iPad' was not good enough?
Probably as preparation to have a consistent naming scheme for an enhanced lineup in the foreseeable future:
  • iPad mini
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Pro

What's wrong with the name iPad Air? Apple has the thinner and lighter MacBook Air.
I'm ready to buy the iPad Air as soon as it is available to order. There are enough upgrades for me. Touch ID would have been nice but not a deal breaker. Faster, thinner and lighter is what I want. Can't wait to get it!

Maybe they aren't holding it right...LOL

But in all seriousness, like any OS there are different work processes involved. Does it work exactly like a laptop? No. Different OS. I do 90% of my work, hobbies, school, and play on my iPad. As when I moved from Windows to Mac, I had to learn new processes that worked for my needs. Same situation here.

During a recent 4 day trip I grabbed my ipad thinking it would be fine. 45 days later (family medical emergency during the trip) I learned that it can do everything I needed. Not just good enough, but as good as a laptop in almost all aspects.

I think that is what holds people back...they assume the work processes/work flows should be the same. It's not.

I understand the usefulness of the iPad, but I think we all have to step back and realize that the Mac is a much better product. The iPad has some really great niche uses (music, education, etc.), but it's in so many ways still incredibly frustrating, for me at least.

Most of the people that I know who try to make it work as their computer really have to try to make it work as their computer. And that's not how it should be at all.

Oh, well good for you. Yes, I've owned every iPad since they debuted so I can talk about missing features that need to be on a TABLET device. Mulit-user accounts. Touch ID should have been added. Period.

iOS STILL doesn't optimize the iPad's display. I'm a troll? If that means voicing my concerns over a $500 device, so be it.
Multiple user accounts is useless on a personal device like this. I agree should have included touch id but it's not a deal breaker. And not enough to move to a new platform. That's just silly!

Hmmmm......

Well, I still use my iPad 1, in fact we have 3 of them in the house. Mine is starting to have some issues, but I will take this if someone buys it for me - but right now I'd rather buy myself a new camera and maybe an MBA.

I'm not sure.

I thought i'd want this - but I too feel like there will be a mid-release this coming year. I'll wait.

The iPad 2 needs to drop in price more....

This makes me thinking if I get an iPad along with the 15" rMBP next year though.
Really hope they add Touch ID and most of all increase minimum capacity to 32GB (for $500). Or I'll probably not buy an iPad in the end.

The iPad 3 just let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Thank you iPad Air for taking up the mantle of being the new red-headed step child of the iPad family."

-Unnecessary new name
-No Touch ID
-Unnecessary WiFi bump with no 802.11ac spec to match family
-A grossly overpriced tag-a-long little brother that should not be bought.

I think we are at another iPad skip generation. My gut says the next iteration will surely get Touch ID and 802.11ac, making this seem wasteful.

*goes home and caresses iPad 3*

"It's all going to be okay now, you still work great for everything I do."

Boy....I CANNOT WAIT for when October 2016 rolls around and we get to finally see the

iPad14cs Pro Air Mini Nano w/ Retina Display

With a A45 chip and...
Only the thickness of a yellow Sticky note and as long as a standard business card!!!

That Jony Ives video will be EPIC!!!!!

Not too mention...$499 starting price and iPad 2 will be dropped to $259....YES!!!!!

All I wanted was thinner and lighter, the rest is icing on the cake. *setting reminder for 12:00 AM November 1...*

really? ipad air?

slimmer and a better processor? is that all they can come up after a year?

at least put touchid in there

I will keep the ipad2 for another cycle

interesting there isn't a preorder (or it hasnt been announced). Looks like I'll be waking up at 11:55 October 31st.

Time to give my iPad 4 to the wife, order a 128GB iPad Air and she can give her iPad 2 to our 3 year old.

i messed around with the iPad mini and it's tough to do anything productivity related on it.

Have you tried to buy a "Macbook" recently?

Notice anything?

yes, a reason for the change to Macbook Pro.
this has no reason for change, as they have added nothing but a name change.

:apple: makes everything thinner and lighter, so that does not count in my book. Should they have added another model to the family; perhaps that could have explained it.

Probably as preparation to have a consistent naming scheme for an enhanced lineup in the foreseeable future:
  • iPad mini
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Pro

Future yes, but a present change is a mistake IMO.

Is it locked?

I have concerns these may be domestically (MCC 310) SIM locked. There is only one model that has all carriers' bands but the description says "Your iPad will work only with the carrier you choose."

Additionally, below that, it says "When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card from a local carrier." - it sounds like these guys are being SIM locked for 310- MCC-MNC's.

That is to say it sounds like Apple is selling them unlocked for foreign SIMs but locked for USA SIMs.

I'm hoping this is just an inaccuracy in the description, but I'm afraid it might not be.

Also complaining about the base size? Sorry what happened to options for people? Ive never needed to own a model bigger than 16gb, so its just fine for me thanks, you do have every option up to 128gb if you want more though. Its amazing people complain Apple doesn't give choices and then when they do, tell them its wrong and they should get rid of the choices.

That's a logical thought. The other way to look at it might be that the base price sets the prices for the rest of the configurations. That said, 16gb does feel limiting these days, and I can also see where people would feel its only there to charge more for 32+.

Why the heck is the iPad 2 still $399? That's a 2.5 year old device (released March 11). What a gigantic rip off.

Shouldn't the last year's model, the iPad 4th gen, be in that slot? Or at the very least, the iPad 3?

$400 for the iPad Mini? No Touch ID? No multi-user accounts? Hello Nexus 7.

Hello trolls. I didn't realize someone is forcing you to buy anything.

So.. iPad Air got better dimensions and weight, and that's about it. Same processor as a phone. It may be a great processor, but iPad pushes a lot more pixels. Will it even be as fast?

Better wifi is pointless. It's wifi was already faster than the internet pipe, the limiting factor. No better camera. Same crippling base storage size. No fingerprint sensor. Probably same RAM (have to wait for a tear down).

Pretty incremental upgrade overall. Hardly impressive.

What were you expecting besides incremental? Do you want it to have X-ray vision and a .1mm flexible OLED see through display? Also your "crippling base storage" comment is off base. WTF are you putting on your iPad that you need 256GB of storage?

Big, huge, monstrous mistake.

Rename your flagship product, are you kidding me.

'iPad' was not good enough?

It's just a name. Nobody cares.

I feel very underwhelmed at this.

I was hoping for an iPad with TouchID, A7X processor, upgraded A/C Wi-Fi, better screen, 8MP camera.

This thing is less powerful than the iPhone! Not once during my ownership of the original iPad and my current iPad 3rd Gen have I complained about it being too heavy.

On a more positive note, I notice that Apple trumped the 2013 Nexus 7's PPI with 226 compared to 223. Must be a nice screen.
