Why on the macrumors page do people seem to put negative as 1? Like when they announced the iphone 4, people voted negative, I thought they were good things.

Rating a news story can mean different things to people. Can be to do with coming later than they wanted, lacking features they wanted, not the price they wanted, don't like Apple but are on this site, don't like the product, just feel like it and so on.

but more importantly, how many iPhone 4's were sold in the last week?

Way less than they would have if they didn't run into production issues or if they hadn't partnered with AT&T!

So Apple is now selling more than a million iPads per month?!? Wow. Netbook killer much? Calm down, paddy. How long can this last? Amazon dropped the price of the Kindle the other day (and I believe B&N followed with the Nook?). I'm at work right now, and have my iPad hooked up over WIFI as an external monitor to store tool windows from Premiere. Now that is a nice trick. Love it.

Three million is the number of units sold not revenue.

It's probably more like two billion dollars in revenue.

LOL, I meant 3million units. Got carried away with the excitement and put a dollar sign in front. Even so, the other manufacturers put together probably didn't even sell $3million worth of units. LOL. Thanks. :)

There are people on this site that own Macs but dislike the other devices. There is someone currently in time-out who owns an iPad but repeatedly posts how "amazing" the Evo is in the iPhone forums.

IOW, they have nothing better to do than follow competing products and degrade them to justify their own purchases.

So if I own an Apple product then I can no longer think critically?

I still maintain that the iPad is not magical or even revolutionary. I've played with one and it can be useful, but magical?!? Of course if you say it often enough then it creeps into the public consciousness and people will believe it, but that doesn't make it so.

A laser-retina projection system with thought control *that* would be revolutionary.

This device is fail...

3 million might have bought and there might be another 10 who are queuing up - but that doesn't mean that device does anything original and useful... apart from filling Apples bank account of course :)

Once device is able to support full internet available today and once it has dozen or so of "killer apps" then maybe, just maybe...

Until then big massive yaaaaawnnnn...

This device is far from fail. It is version 1 of an entirely new type of product line. And with sales like this already, looks to have a promising future. As more and more developers come to the platform, the future of the iPad is very bright indeed. You're completely clueless if you think you will ever find a new product that supports and does everything everyone wants.

My first impression of the ipad was "toy". Now, however, I'm having dreams of the ipad...time to take the plunge
Same here. I wasn't sure if it would really add anything worthwhile to my daily routine. I eventually came around to buying it in June, and it is more excellent a device than I ever would have expected. I enjoy reading the news, newspapers, and even just reading like never before—and that's not even getting into how nice it is to have an immediate-access internet/email device around (with a bigger screen), the app store...

Good to be an Apple shareholder.

Love my ipad, whenever I have mine in public people want to touch it and play with it (the ipad that is). Anybody else experience this?

I did my part - 1/3,000,000 :)

Add my two!

Really? Negative? Even if you are anti-iPad and don't want one yourself, think it is useless, or haven't received yours yet, the news is good that Apple sold that many.

That my friends is what we call a successful product launch.

But... but... but....

All the naysayers said the only reason the first million sold so fast was because of the "Apple fanboys" who immediately buy anything with the Apple name on it? The sales were supposed to start dying off after the initial rush???

After all, it's just a "big ipod touch". And no processor "x", ram "y" and nerdy feature "z". And OMG no FLASH! Who would ever want such a thing????

The geeky tech heads will never learn...

So true. Those ignorant naysayers fail to see that Apple targets a very wide demographic with their portable devices.

Yes the iPad is incredible in so many ways, but Apple needs to stop with the "magical" descriptor.

It's usually the Apple hate that creates the negative posts. If Apple posted that everyone in each country gets a free iPad, all they have to do is ask, then people here would rate the article negative because they'd say that Apple was being arrogant for making me ask for an iPad.
Any positive article here about Apple winning causes a negative vote and I wish those people would just stay the hell away from here. Now where's that PC Rumors site so I can vote negative on anything Microsoft wins on. Oh wait, they never win. ;)

HLdan: Because only positive opinions matter. ;)

The word "magical" should just be removed entirely. I don't ever recall any of the latest medical technology being regarded as "magical" but somehow a tablet is. I'm thinking they couldn't think of anything better.

iPad Magic

The iPad is a magical as Steve says it is. It's totally replacing my iBook and I'm rarely sitting at the iMac since I got it. It does everything that I need and has a fantastic interface.

I only wish I could afford one for each of my 6 kids. They're always wanting to use it. An with the fantastic interface comes the ability for 3 year old children to play and learn within this electronic medium. Never before has something like this really been possible. :)

What a failure!

I mean in a country of 300+ million they've only sold to 1% of the population. :D I mean look how many licenses MSFT sells every year for phones.

(yes this is sarcasm!)

I think that qualifies under revolutionary, not magical. It can't quite replace a laptop or desktop, as you can't back it up or even start using it without one.

If by "Full Internet" you mean Flash, I can say that I hardly miss it. There really isn't as much flash as people seem to think there is. Besides, it will fade into the distance as more and more people move away from the "Plug-in" internet and onto forward moving web standards.

As for these "killer apps", care to name a few? I find a lot more than a dozen pretty killer. With 11,000 iPad apps, there is something for everyone. Not everyone has the same needs.

Can someone tell me why MacRumors hasn't added the iPad to the Buyer's Guide tab? All the other Apple products are there...so should the iPad.

I'm guessing it will be added when the second version comes out. There's nothing they can put there right now, except an initial release date. They can't advise on when to purchase, so it's not much use in a buyer's guide.

So much for all those tool bags who said that demand would taper off after an initial rush. It appears to be gaining a little bit of steam.

3 Million iPad's in 80 Days !!!!
