Perfect timing

One last training push before the App Store goes online at the end of June. :)

How come nothing has been announced for students? No student scholarships this year? I don't even see where students can buy tickets.

New Macbook in the advert?

Has anyone noticed that even though the WWDC poster has a laptop in it which looks like an AIR, its actually too wide to be one...? (the keyboard isn't as wide as the computer)

..this is my first post!

fun fun fun, party going on at Moscone!

just kidding, hope they announce some blu-ray support
hope they announce new hdcp hdmi monitors with speakers in them also.

APPLE IS SPLITTING IN TWO?!
Yes, but the question is "What is the split?". Will it be:

Scenario 1
  • Platform - This division will be focused on the Mac platform
    • Hardware - Macs, mobile devices, AppleTV
    • OS X - Create and improve Frameworks for developers to use. When Steve introduced OS X he said they will be using a single OS strategy.
    • Xcode - No use having a great platform if there is no way to create and test applications for said platform.
  • Applications - Safari, iLife, iWork, Final Cut Studio, iTunes, etc.

Scenario 2
  • Mac - This will be Macs, applications (iLife, Aperture, .mac, etc.)
  • Media - This will be iTunes, iTunes Store, iPod, mobile devices, AppleTV, etc
I think scenario 1 is more likely to happen since Apple is expanding and "opening up" to outside suppliers so they need to provide a solid foundation for everyone . The Applications division will, for all intents and purposes, become a 3rd party applications developer.

I think it's pretty obvious by now that the 3G iPhone (iPhone 2 - hence the two bridges in the graphic) will debut at WWDC. The rumor mill has been buzzing about a June debut for a while now and it seems that there's no more appropriate event for that than WWDC.

Oh, oh... they've built another Golden Gate Bridge!? Sweet!

Seriously though, lets not speculate on the two bridges all the way until June... the only thing I see here is that Apple has a good marketing department.

Your kidding right? That request is falling on deaf ears.....so to speak. People will be speculating on what the two bridges means 24 hours 7 days a week right up until Steve actually gets up on stage.:D

I think we'll see the iPhone firmware 2.0, a full demo and all new features. I don't think they'll be minor features (excluding exchange support) like 1.1.3, I think it's going to be big. Custom home page backgrounds, there are loads of ideas that I could witter on about but yeah.

I think we'll see iTunes 8.0 (Maybe iTunes X/10?), which will have DVR support and become an 'all-in-one' for home entertainment.

64GB iPod Touch, 3G iPhone with GPS (landmarks could be a hint) and a built in sat nav system built by Apple. Imagine Leopard Alex telling you to turn right. :apple:

A preview of OS X 10.6 (which won't need an extra 7GB RAM, 2GB video card and 5Ghz processor *cough*vista*cough*) (note slight exaggeration.)

I think it's gonna be big. Also, OS X on Windows?

The classic and nano are the "problems." The shuffle has no display and is quite clearly never going to become anything more than it is. There will always be a niche for the shuffle- I see as many shuffle's at the gym as any other iPod. For many it is the perfect workout companion- simple, tiny, and cheap.

Nano and classic... those are issues. They have color displays and several non-music features but don't run OS X. They play videos and have an address book and calendar and even have games, but all this is all unique to these devices.

So yes, I think Apple would love to make those two devices run OS X like the iPhone/Touch. However, iPhone SDK apps are designed for a 320 x 480 display (or vice versa.) There doesn't appear to be any layout manger in play that would allow the iPhone's address book to be directly ported to a nano, even if the nano was running OS X.

On a last note, has anybody else wondered/noticed how everything is "iPhone" in regard to the SDK. We all know apps will also run on the Touch (if they don't use the camera/phone/etc.) But this is pretty strong branding and it seems to ignore the Touch completely. Why didn't Apple call this the "OS X Mobile SDK" or something if they're really going this direction?

Can I get some definitive answer on this from a dev who has access to the sdk? Does the sdk allow you to create apps that are resolution independant?

With the way things are going what year you all think Apple will be in a position to buy microsoft? And its a serious question too. :D

Not a chance. In any case, due to competition regulations, the two need each other to stay separate.

Apple+Yahoo though.... (well, it's a more natural fit that MS and Yahoo).

I agree with you about some things. Itunes..yes, preview of 10.6..yes, 64gb itouch...no, dvr...not until macworld 09, almost fully customizable iphone...HECK YES!!

My contract ends with t-Mobile at the end of April ... finally! Just in time to buy a 2 gen iPhone over the summer!

Some questions to all current iPhone users - especially in NYC: How is AT&T as a provider? If you switched from another company are you satisfied or do you wish you were using an unlocked phone and staying with your original provider? If you are using an unlocked phone with, lets say t-Mobile, are there any problems that you have encountered?

Thank you in advance to any who might reply with insightful information.

i bet it is for TWO BIG announcements.

iphone 3g along with sdk

and

mac pro or mbp announcement

either that or

relooking at the picture....

apple is bringing EVERYTHING together. all direction lead to one place.

Could be apple having their own Cellular business to compete with ATT/Verizon/Tmobile/Sprint after 5 years is up.

or apple no longer makin' mac thus letting microsoft takin' care of OS X while apple continue making great hardwares

or it will be a lot harder for Magento to handle two bridges at once to Alcartz Island

or new bridge = better tech/better way while old bridge is obsolete/eschewing and is for low-class or whatever

or double bridge = double speed/storage or even worse price!

btw - the first new bridge in that photo is a bit odd perspective. they needed to rotate a bit more..

The iPhone SDK is very specific in terms of resolution in that all iPhone applications run at the same resolution, and none of the applications are resizable. Actually, the applications are not even minimizable as you can only have one application running at once. The iPhone runs at a specific resolution which cannot be changed, and all applications run at that resolution.

I made a simple countdown widget to WWDC :)

Finally, part of this thread has some sense.

It *is* stated pretty clearly that the iPhone is a new "platform" and they differentiate it from "OS-X." It's also a developers conference and there are two bridges at a "Landmark Event."

Apple is being fairly obvious here.

When you add that to the fact that although iPhone runs OS-X it isn't the same OS-X ... I would guess this is the formal announcement party for the "new platform" of iPhone. This formal differentiation could possibly include a new trademark as well as the baby needs a name.

OS-X and her little cousin ....

- OSi ?
- OS-Xi ?
- OS-T ?

They could just go with "iPhone OS" I guess but that's pretty lame isn't it?

I quite like the sound of Touch OS X

CBD? Not sure what that is...

I did notice that it merges in Marin and branches into two parts of the City, but I think that's just because it would be hard to visually construct in the other direction because of the geography..

Depending on what level of literalism you're looking for, the GG bridge is mostly used by commuters into the Financial District. It's not used to travel from the suburbs (Marin) to what you're calling suburbs. The south anchorage is in the city, just not in the big building part of the city. It actually unloads into a park. The "new" bridge is dumping into the Marina which is yuppie housing for people who can afford to rebuild every time the ground shakes.

Two paths to the people, both the same, is the only way I can read this.

Sorry I only really know the city from a tourists view.

CBD Central Business District or the Financial District with the Transamerica Building. So while the bridge does take you from Suburbs to Suburbs it via the Suburbs just like Apple relationship to enterprise to date. Now they have a new bridge, maybe it's just the iPhone, that goes direct to enterprise.

Yep i'm just reading to much in to it, but there has been more moves by Apple of late to move towards Enterprise.

..this is my first post!

Apple rarely if ever shows new products in event announcements advertisements.

Besides... it's just an Air.

p.s. There will be nothing said of 10.6 or iPhones with 3G.

My Official Predictions:

-iPhone SDK, iTunes App Store, several apps previewed
-Announcement of plans for Mac OS 10.6
-iPhone + iTunes movie rentals go international (a firm date will be given)

That's it.

the keyboard is black so i'm pretty sure it is an Air. Also there is a bit of space between the keyboard and the side of the macbook air.
