One More Thing?...

What could it be? Will there even be one?...

Anyway, I don't expect to see any major new hardware (redesigns for sure) - but hopefully a preview of 10.6? iLife updates.

Probably a big beefing up of iTunes, new content / delivery. Potentially iTunes being wrapped into a new type of media management / delivery software - or is iTunes to ubiquitous to go through such a major change? Also a software / peripherals update for AppleTV.

New Apple iPhone apps as well - and a more feature rich iPhone 2 update (than is currently in the wild), as well as previews of other developers software. I can imagine Apple have tasked certain big developers to preview software on the day.

You guys aren't thinking outside of the box. It's two bridges split in a "v" kinda similar to the finger motion you'd make on your iPhone if you were pinching to zoom in or out. So, if you take the image, zoom in really tight, you can see Steve Jobs on the other side of the right bridge with a sack of cash (with $ symbol on the front) in one hand and flipping off the camera with the other.

I have no idea what it could mean, but it's there dude, I swear.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

I'm hoping for a 10.6 preview.

Would be nice, but at bit early, no?

Can't wait!

After waiting here in Ireland for several months longer for the iPhone than Germany, France, and Great Britain and then finally buying it partly because of the SDK,

And after finding out that the "free" SDK requires a payment of 99 dollars a year to be used,

AND after finding out that for the next few months even that offer is only available to American developers,

I really CANNOT WAIT to find out what Steve Jobs will announce next!

What will it be? Does he kill puppies?

Dude... thats not just a $ Sign... you can see an M to the left of it if you look closely... Also, if you look at the other side of the other bridge, you can see Billy-G... Maybe its not splitting we're seeing, but a merger! THIS IS HUGE! MAC AND M$ ARE MERGING!

Err. You're either being ironic or you don't know what you're talking about.

It's free. It's available now. Download it if you can code.

New revisions to both OSXs and two hardware lines (new iPhone announcement, new MBP announcement).

Hmm I still think that's a little too early for that and it's a dev conference so will probs be firmware 2.0.

To become MicroApple....zord?

It will surely devour us all!

As far as developing is concerned (which is what this is about) the iPhone and the iPod Touch are the same. Unless you need the phone part you can write for one and it works on the other.

So your question really should be "what about the Shuffle, Nano, and Classic?"

And the answer is, of course, that they're not in the picture because Apple just doesn't care about them. They'll keep making them so long as people are buying them, but the day they can offer all multi-touch, all OSX, and all flash-based iPods will be a day that Apple will like very much.

The classic and nano are the "problems." The shuffle has no display and is quite clearly never going to become anything more than it is. There will always be a niche for the shuffle- I see as many shuffle's at the gym as any other iPod. For many it is the perfect workout companion- simple, tiny, and cheap.

Nano and classic... those are issues. They have color displays and several non-music features but don't run OS X. They play videos and have an address book and calendar and even have games, but all this is all unique to these devices.

So yes, I think Apple would love to make those two devices run OS X like the iPhone/Touch. However, iPhone SDK apps are designed for a 320 x 480 display (or vice versa.) There doesn't appear to be any layout manger in play that would allow the iPhone's address book to be directly ported to a nano, even if the nano was running OS X.

On a last note, has anybody else wondered/noticed how everything is "iPhone" in regard to the SDK. We all know apps will also run on the Touch (if they don't use the camera/phone/etc.) But this is pretty strong branding and it seems to ignore the Touch completely. Why didn't Apple call this the "OS X Mobile SDK" or something if they're really going this direction?

I guess i'm just naive, but why would they release a G5 powerbook so shortly after releasing the Mb and MBP with the new Penryn's?

The person was 'trying' to be funny. The whole G5 Powerbook comment is a really tired running joke here at Macrumours. It is kinda like the comment that after 'x'-upgrade that "Safari seems snappier". Quite annoying if you ask me.

Yes - from past patterns of updates.. I'm going to guess they will update iMac and MBP after along those lines... Kind of like a hype of the presentation.

meh, two bridges, if this is iPhone and Mac, then what about iPod? or is iPod on a boat down below?
That's funny! More like the boat with a hole in it and sinking fast. There's seems like little room left for the iPod (apart from the Touch) with all this iPhone talk.

What is the symbolism here? It certainly suggests divergence as opposed to convergence; those bridges are getting further apart. Yet they are not in diametric opposite directions. Intriguing!

Is Apple splitting in two? Is iPhone splitting away from OS X? Or maybe it means nothing, and Steve loves someone's Photoshop doodle?

Wow, its nice and early in June.

Loved the announcement card, or is it an invite? Hm why did I start this post? Oh yes, so I keep forgetting WWDC is developer focused  duh I guess. But I know people on MR have in the past downplayed possibilities of products being released at such a developer focused event.

So even with 2.0 being released and SDK based apps being ready, will they still create another separate event for the new iPhone to be released, if indeed they were planning to release it around that time anyway?

More importantly, will Steve be speaking?

Let me reiterate a quote by Wayne Gretzky that Steve had on a slide last year? "I skate to where the puck is going, not to where it's been".

Apple of course saw that the iPods days were numbered. As soon as Nokia started integrating mp3-players in their phones they became the "worlds leading mp3-player manufacurer".

The iPhone thus became a necessity to still be "in the game".

Phones are also slowly taking over the general computing business.

Maybe Apple won't split into two this year or the next five years. But something like IBM has done (selling all pc-manufacturing business to Lenovo) isn't unthinkable. or splitting up and then selling parts of itself to another company.

You should skate to where the puck is going (phones, home-entertainment) not to where it's been (mp3-players, computers) those are rapidly becoming mature, low-margin markets. Apple don't like low margins.

So, maybe it's a kind of vision of the future, though unintentional.

EXCELLENT points. That is rather curious.

In terms of OS 10.6? I doubt anything will be mentioned on this. The most that I can see is a "roadmap" with a name be associated with OS 10.6, but that's about it.

Maybe the bridges are apple and another company, they start seperate on the right side and by the mountain they come together

apple merger? with AT&T?

Guys, it clearly means that Apple is going to use its cash horde to build a 2nd golden gate bridge!

It will be free for everybody, but the speed limit will be 45mph and it will be limited to Apple cars only. 6 months later, Apple will release a Golden Gate Bridge speed limit update, which will allow users to go up to 55mph, but it will cost $20. 6 months after that, Apple will release the Golden Gate bridge 2.0 update for another $20, which will allow all motorists to use any car they want.

Please, let it be...

...maybe it's the return of the PowerPC!

Finally, after getting switchers with Intel and BootCamp, all Apple has to do is build a new ground-breaking PPC workstation. We have Universal binaries. Who says, they won't last.

Maybe a Cell BE xServe, maybe IBM finally made a nice offer for a new Power-derivant, that makes a wonderful desktop workhorse (as Intel remains the platform of choice for mobile computing).

Remember, the G5 struggled due to it's lacking mobile performance. But the mobile platform is seated perfectly with Intel's future. But what about desktop workstations. If you don't care about heat dissipation and performance per watt, why not bring back some PowerPC glory? I mean, seriously, the MacPro still remains in the PowerMac G5 enclosure. The cheese grater design is getting old.

Here is to hoping for the PowerMac G6! Bring it on!
