Ugh.

Phil freaking Schiller.

That's a bit harsh!! he is still a very good keynote speaker.
Anyway, I stand by my belief that Phil will announce a one more thing a Steve will walk onto the stage looking a lot better and possibly holding a new device!

Jobs "not well enough"

Two weeks ago, Jobs let his lawyer go to the Woodside Town Council meeting to argue on his behalf about his house demolition permit. Not interesting, except for what the lawyer told the council about why he wasn't there:

"I don't think he would be strong enough if we were here until 1 a.m."

This house thing is a big deal for Jobs & he would have been there if he could have. He's definitely not 100% yet.

I agree that Schiller does a good job. He's a marketing guy and he's well-suited to giving demos and talking products.

And if the rumors are true about Steve's activities while "on leave," you might just be correct about his return with a new type of device.

Wwdc 2009

"........he [Steve Jobs]will not play his traditional keynote role."

Don't bet on it!

But please don't let Schiller loose he is the antithesis of Steve Jobs.
Who was the guy who did so much at the January one? He's the man for the job.

Unfortunately, Jonathan Ive is a little reserved, he lets his imaginative pencil do the talking.

Let's call the rumoured new iPhone nCompass 'coz it is more than just a phone/satnav/pocket computer/er...compass etc, etc geddit? :)

In all respect to Mr. Jobs,

Good, if Apple is to survive when he retires then they need to show they can exist, function and thrive without him.

He is not God, he is a human being with the needs and limitations that implies. ;)

If Bertrand Serlet (ala "The Funny Frenchman") comes on stage then I am sorry to say that I'll be skipping that part of the presentation. I'm sure that he's very intelligent and this isn't anti-French, but his "let's take the piss out of Vista" section a few years back when he last made an appearance was about as entertaining as nails on a chalkboard.

Apple Needs To Develop Strong Leaders For The Future

I think Steve Jobs is one of the greatest visionaries and presenters of all time. Without him Apple wouldn't be what it is. Steve won't live forever and I wish him the best of health for the rest of his days. I'm looking forward to seeing him do his thing again in a future keynote.

We've really benefited from Apple in my generation. My hope is that Apple continues to do for my kids and future grandchildren what it has done for us. This won't happen if Apple can't make it past Steve Jobs. It is important for Apple to develop strong leaders and great presenters for the future. It's hard to appreciate others when fixated on one person.

When you think about it, Steve's job of presenting was made easier because the products for the most part have been great. Phil and any other presenters will only get better at this the more they do it.

The main thing I am interested in SL is the UI :p. Then I will read about all the other features, but I am interested in what it looks like.

I see no new iPhone at WWDC.

ya I see no new iphone as well. The first hour will be an entire repetition of the last keynote (3.0 preview) 15min of which would be how push works (again). The second hour will be of snow leopard.

But yes I as well believe another keynote perhaps in August detailing the new iphone and it's release in September.

Just lost my eagerness

They should really give the job to Scott Forstall. He's far and away their best non-Jobs presenter.

As they have told us again and again and again...they DO have strong leaders and great presenters. When you compare everything to Steve Jobs you've set an essentially impossible standard. Any other company would be ecstatic to have Apple's leadership and presenters. What you're not saying is that you really want them to find Steve Jobs part 2. Not going to happen.

Yes, but why launch iPhone 3.0 OS with all it's much reported features if there isn't the hardware to exploit it. 3.0 OS will do far more than the 3G iPhone can do if rumours are to be believed and way more than my great but aging 2G iPhone. Bring on iPhone 3[rd]G(eneration)
Listen to us all. We're like a bunch of kids in a toy shop!!

That's the guy I meant. He's good. similar if not quite as charismatic as Steve Jobs but you still hang on his every word.

Schiller is a clever man without a doubt but as a WWDC presenter he's like your embarrassing cousin at a wedding when the Karaoke starts, sit down and let someone else sing!

No Steve in Public...

Steve may be back, but not at WWDC (especially not as a “one more thing”). I agree that Apple will not make a huge production upon his return as they are trying to show they are a company, not an organization built around a single person.

He will likely stay as CEO for another year of two after his return, but will probably not see much public daylight ever again as the frontman for Apple.

This statement by Apple is trying to prevent the wild speculation and stock manipulation that happens in the month before an Apple Event and keeping the focus on what they ARE doing, not what everybody opines they SHOULD be doing.

Very subtle and classy way to get this information out there for those that are really trying to listen
