Oh, one more thing...

We could have a ONE-TWO from Apple..
1.. "Oh, one more thing.." stage left, Steve Jobs walks out..
2... holding a....

If Steve was only doing the last few mins.. it would not be as stressful as a fully blown presentation..

Yes, but why launch iPhone 3.0 OS with all it's much reported features if there isn't the hardware to exploit it. 3.0 OS will do far more than the 3G iPhone can do if rumours are to be believed and way more than my great but aging 2G iPhone. Bring on iPhone 3[rd]G(eneration)
Listen to us all. We're like a bunch of kids in a toy shop!!

Actually only 2 reported features are not supported on the current 3g iphone. (digital compass and video recording) And it's tracks are very well buried in the current betas. All other features apply to the current iphones and no new hardware is required.

So I don't see why os 3.0 will have to coincide with a new hardware release.

I believe when apple announced the 3g model at the last wwdc it took up the whole show. I just don't think it would make sense to cramp a new iphone release with snow leopard.

They should really give the job to Scott Forstall. He's far and away their best non-Jobs presenter.

That's the guy I meant. He's good. similar if not quite as charismatic as Steve Jobs but you still hang on his every word.

I think Scott Forstall is really boring to listen to. I look forward to keynotes about the iPhone OS, but dread having to listen to him for an hour or so.

I thought he would. Steve won't be back till late June.

Actually Chundles, as this is a rumors site, the rumors that I have been hearing for quite some time from friends in Northern California is that he won't be back.

I hope I am wrong, and wish Mr. Jobs all the best.

He has given the world a lot.

Jobs is a visionary. There is nobody at Apple to take his place.

He once said of Microsoft that their problem was that they lacked taste in a big sense.

Steve Jobs has extraordinary taste in a big sense. He perceives and translates long before the pack. You cannot replace a guy like that, and during his two stints with the company, he defined the Apple vision and roadmap. An extraordinary man.

The original letter describing his leave of absence didn't say 'until June' or even 'until late June'. It said "until the end of June."

When you say "Apple CEO Steve Jobs is currently taking a medical leave of absence until June, and many have hoped that he will make his first public reappearance at WWDC." you are being misleading. The phrase 'until June' will generally be taken to mean until the beginning of June, so this article makes it seem as though this is a change of plans.

Hm.. imagine the reception he'll get from the audience if that was to happen. They'll go nuts... those are always the coolest parts of the keynote. :D

aaaa lets hope for a surprise kind of guest appearence during the keynote. ie. one more thing... and there is Steve healthy and all

Maybe Apple should use the same format as their product information videos.

"Hi I'm Dave and I work at one of our Apple retail stores. I wanted to show you some of the many new features of ......."

Steve Jobs could still make an appearance...

... you never know.

So true. I do hope he'll be back; while hoping that--if he isn't--the company can continue forging ahead successfully.

I, for one, am glad to hear that Steve Jobs is not coming back (at least yet). Once he finally retires from Apple, the ridiculous expectations from fanboys and the stock fluctuations based on rumors of his health will cease to exist. I love Apple products but this cult of personality is extremely creepy and turns off a lot of prospective Mac buyers. I finally gave in and purchased a Mac after realizing the quality of the product, but I'm still disgusted by rampant fanboyism and hero worship in the Apple "community".

He's a great marketing guy, but he's not Jesus Christ.

*begin flaming*

+1 I'm not bothered if Steve leaves Apple, but I can imagine the reactions of fanboys

I read an article last week, I can't find it now, that suggested Steve may return as chairman but not CEO. Then he is freed of a lot of stress and pressure so he can work exclusively on product development. I think that may be a good move.

Maybe it's just a surprise that Steve will return as one more thing and then announce the next iThing.

There's no reason why he would have been back for the WWDC, he's on leave until the end of June.

You have no understanding of why Apple is the company that it is.

I do understand the impact Steve has had on Apple and I agree that it wouldn't be anywhere it is today without him.
But as a company Apple is at the point where it doesn't have to rely on Steve, it has a good team of executives behind it now. If Steve leaves Apple isn't going to go bust.

What makes me cringe so much is fanboys, who pretty much profess their undying love for Steve.
