They should just hike up the prices instead of doing a lottery, but that would probably upset people for "gouging."

It's rare for Apple to announce hardware, except for hardware developers use in their daily lives like laptops.

Yes, it's possible, but I think a September event for hardware is what Apple is trying to do in the future.

We will probably get a preview of the next version of OS X: Kardashians. The next iOS, and hopefully Apple TV SDK.

I'm not sure why an Apple TV would need to wait until the fall. The current ATV is due for improvements whether there's an SDK/AppStore or not. And isn't it possible that Apple is already working with some high profile developers so when an SDK/AppStore is announced they'll have something to show off? There were developers who had access to the nMP before Apple had announced it to the public (of course it was concealed so they didn't know what the design looked like).

Apple will designate a certain number of tickets for high profile developers, students, and media. The remaining tickets in the lottery pool (about 5,000) should be totally random.

The way Apple is doing it this year is much better. Instead of randomly going to their site and being able to make a decision on dates, clear it with your boss and purchase tickets in under 71 seconds, this is a more thoughtfully planned out way to sell tickets. Nobody is in a rush - and it feels like a rush, like winning the lottery when you get tickets. Not the frustration of 'I was on the site, but the server wouldn't let me submit' issues.

Additionally, Apple will now know the hard numbers - how many people actually want to go to WWDC. Will it be 6,000 - 10,000 - 50,000 - 100,000? And where those developers are from. Maybe this will help Apple in the future to decide on having a second WWDC, and where to have it (like London?) or being able to handle more people possibly (although that's tough)

I hope it's not completely random. Apple should weight the submissions. Including the number of apps, downloads, and revenue. This way those that actually need to go will be able to. The last couple years I've seen a lot of new faces that don't appear to actually be developers.

iPhone...?

I know everything says that the iPhone 6 is supposed to come out this Fall... but does anyone else get the feeling it might come earlier? like... that it might be announced during this WWDC?? I know I'm definitely getting that feeling... To me, it makes sense for Apple to update their mobile devices more often than before, to better compete with the competition...

You're right. Maybe there will be a new ATV device, just the 'app store' for it wouldn't open until September.

I hate saying "Apple needs..." but I do think they need some new hardware to show off. As far as laptops, would there be anything new to show off other an maybe the Airs going retina or this new rumored fanless notebook?

The title of the article was originally Apple Announces WWDC 2014 Scheduled for June 2-6, Tickets On Sale Today so I'll let you off this time. :D

I was gonna say. For me, that's one of the biggest headlines of the year! Thanks :)

Sometimes I hate Apple... Last night I was thinking "if Apple doesn't release the new Apple TV in the next couple months I'm buying an Amazon FireTV." Now I have to wait to see if they announce it at WWDC. Well played, Apple... Well played.

It looks like a digitizer layer....

Touch screen OSX tablet???

(i'm in the minority, i'd really like one after playing with the Dell Venue 8 Pros I bought my kids... of course, I couldn't afford the Apple variant I'm guessing).

Or the A7 OSX tablet.... maybe!

The concern I have and had it for a few years is that apple is just resting on its laurels. iOS7 is a good change, but we've been hearing about a potential major update to apple tv for years. The same for iWatch. Apple's competitors are rolling out some interesting products but with Apple they've been quiet. To quiet

Mmm... June 2-6... perhaps somebody will receive Mac Pro Late 2013... or perhaps not :D

And Mac mini? :(
