Apple is the only conference that I know of that uses a lottery system to get in.

Build May 10–12, 2017 tickets available for 8 hours at $2,195 each then they sold out.

I remember Apple used to sell tickets on a first come, first serve basis. Originally took a few days to sell out. Then a few hours. Then minutes.

I think it would be fun to attend, but I'm no developer. Plus, the expense alone would be prohibitive. $1599 for tickets alone, plus travel to and from, plus lodging, plus food, plus local transportation (cab, uber, etc.), plus incidentals like sight seeing & souvenir shopping.

Build 2016 sold out in 1 minute after Hololens debuted...people were hoping for a free one. Not sure why 8 hours this time as 2015 was also 20 minutes, I think its simply too many conferences and lack of free HW. Still impressinve for $2000+ tix with no freebies, hope lots of info on Redstone 3.

With all the iPhone leaks I wouldn't be surprised if the new iPhone was released at WWDC this year.

Since everyone pores over the invites for clues... looks like lots of small figures laid out in a pointillist style. So I'm guessing iOS 11 is very emoji-centric...

This is great. San Francisco has become far too expensive for trade-shows. When you're spending $300 a night for a hotel, $25 per meal and $50 to Taxi from SFO to SOMA, it's becoming impossible for indie developers to spend $1599 plus another $1500 just for accommodations.

San Jose is far more affordable.

"Technology alone is not enough. Technology must intersect with the liberal arts and the humanities, to create new ideas and experiences that push society forward. This summer we bring together thousands of brilliant minds representing many diverse perspectives, passions, and talents to help us change the world."

Hopefully Apple will have some major new innovations to their operating systems. I'm getting a bit tired of features that app companies would add to a point release, being hailed as the Wow USP of a yearly major OS update (I'm looking at you stickers for iMessage and tabs for macOS)

I hope that new iPads aren't pushed to WWDC...

Doubt it. WWDC has solidly become about software. And it's also certain that Apple will use the opening of Campus 2's auditorium to debut the 10th anniversary iPhone. Why would they rush it out in June and without OS 11 having been in devs hands to modify their apps?

Sure, but annual updates are really like point updates. You can't have big innovation annually. I agree iOS needs work but I'd rather them get the basics working better than just adding useless features because they are expected to do so. Also it's not like Apple is charging for the update. If you don't like the new features ignore them. That's what I do. I don't even know how to use stickers if I wanted to.

Wow, some 6,000 people going for $1,599 tickets. That's nearly $10m just for an event. Nice easy profit for apple, even if it is only a drop in the ocean for its earnings!
