Aqua 2.0?

The current stoplights are looking a bit staid.

I wouldn't say no to a new UI in macOS, as long as I'll be able to select the "classic" theme. I'm not a fan of blur and transparencies on the Mac and it is the first thing I disable when installing macOS on a new machine.
I do like it a lot on iOS though. I don't like distractions when I have a lot of windows opened at the same time, while I enjoy all the bells and whistles of iOS since I'm focusing on a single app.

Apple today announced that its 29th annual Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off on Monday, June 4 and will last through Friday, June 8 with the conference to be held once again at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

Developers can register to attend starting today, and Apple says registration will be open until Thursday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. As is typical, Apple will be selecting WWDC attendees using a lottery system due to the popularity of the conference.

Tickets will be priced at $1,599, and only developers who win Apple's ticket lottery will be able to purchase a WWDC ticket. To enter the lottery, developers must have been a member of the Apple Developer Program or the Apple Developer Enterprise Program as of March 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Developers who are chosen through the WWDC ticket lottery will be notified by March 23 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Apple also plans to make up to 350 WWDC Student Scholarships available this year for students and members of STEM organizations. Scholarships provide a free WWDC ticket, free lodging, and free one year membership to the Apple Developer Program.

Scholarship submissions will open on Monday, March 26, 2018, and students will be asked to build an interactive scene in Swift playground that can be experienced within three minutes.

Apple uses its Worldwide Developers Conference to introduce new software, to debut new hardware products, and to network with thousands of developers from all over the world. This year, Apple is expected to introduce iOS 12, macOS 10.14, tvOS 12, watchOS 5, and new software for the HomePod.

Apple will hold a keynote event on Monday, June 4, where we will get our first glimpse at new software products and perhaps some new hardware. Rumors suggest Apple could use the event to introduce new lower-cost MacBook Air models and refreshed iPad Pro models equipped with Face ID.

Last year was the first year that Apple held its Worldwide Developers Conference at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California rather than at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and it appears the new location will be used for the foreseeable future.

Apple says that developers who are not chosen to attend the conference and "Apple enthusiasts everywhere" will be able to live stream the conference through the Apple Developer website or through the dedicated WWDC app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

Those who are not picked for WWDC are also able to attend alternate events throughout San Jose during the week of WWDC, such as AltConf, which was announced this morning. Tickets to AltConf, which allows developers to mingle and provides a venue for watching the keynote and other WWDC events, are free. AltConf will take place from June 4 to June 7.

IOS 11 sucks and I’m not expecting anything special to be in IOS 12, they are sadly running out of furturistic ideas... just a lot of security measures and silly things! They say home pod is the best, I’m sorry I don’t want to have to use Spotify off my phone when google and echo can play it directly from their systems!

Seems to hint at a revised UI kit, perhaps so macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS and whateverOS use the same look & feel ?

In any case, skeuomorphism made a full circle and it's coming back - they have to throw something "new" every now and then, and since they're out of fresh ideas...

Does this mean there's no March event?

If there is an iPhone SE replacement coming, I'd suspect it would be a separate event. They might also try to hold out for September to align it with the rest of their phone releases. I suspect the SE will continue to be a bit of a popular one-off, because its design constraints are more size and price oriented than say the iPhone 8 (and definitely the X).

I sure hope that their will be a successor for the iPhone SE as was also rumored (here, here) in August and November 2017. Let's hope they will also mention that in June instead of this month because it now seems there is no announcement this month for a separate event.

I still love my iPhone SE due to its size and possibilities. I do hope that they will come up with a bigger screen but still within the total size of the current iPhone SE and hopefully also 3D Touch (although chances might be slim for that for what I've read) and ofcourse a better processor, more GB RAM and a better camera and faster Touch ID.

Let the 3D revolution begin!!! again!!! Yea!!! Can't escape Skeu, because we live in a Skeu world, thats why our brains are like they are.

I love how in 2012, people were happy that Forstall was gone, because iOS's design was getting boring and looked ugly, and Siri and Maps were filled with bugs. Now, its 2018 and people want him back because iOS's design looks boring and too flat, Siri is filled with bugs, and iOS is just a complete disaster.

Lol, these invitations never actually have any hints on the updates. Unless someone can prove me wrong?
In 2012, the iPhone name was unclear, but the invitation had a 12 for September 12, and the shadow behind it was a 5, for the iPhone 5. In 2013, the WWDC picture was very flat, which was a hint for iOS 7's design. And, for the iPhone invitation, there was multiple colors, for the iPhone 5c, and one of them had a little circle around it, for Touch ID for the iPhone 5s. Going back more, the invitation for MacWorld 2008 said, "Theres something in the Air," and that year, they introduced the first MacBook Air. So yes, they do sometimes mean something.

I found my old iPod Touch 2G running iOS 4.2.1, and I was surprised. It was extremely fast for a device with 128 MB of ram. I hit the home button, and with no delay, no dumb animation, it was instant. Same with opening apps. It just felt so fluid, and compared to my iPhone X with 11.3, it just felt more useable. Shame that nothing works on it anymore. The screen is shattered, the headphone jack is broken along with the speaker, the App Store won't open, and it can't get on Youtube anymore.

Because the Steve Jobs Theatre isn’t big enough to house the amount of people that attend WWDC.

So why bother building it in the first place.

Given the amount of iPhone leaks every year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved to just one keynote a year at WWDC and pre-announced the new iPhone at that event. Tim Cook has already sucked out all the excitement surrounding Apple so he might as well finish the job off.

This would be my guess as well. With the face tracking they can give the UI and apps a 3D effect much like the failed Amazon Fire Phone.

i don't understand why people are talking about skeuomorphism.

THIS INVITE MEANS 3D
The position of the head (FaceID) will give dimensions to everything in iOS design.

For other events/product announcements, WWDC is more about the software than it is products.

Question: brother and I have software development company with Apple subscription. But that subscription is in his name and the plan was that -if passing the lottery of course ;)- i would visit. Doe anyone know if that is possible, because the entry for WWDC is in his name.

The big surprise IMHO being the anticipated relaunch of a modular Mac Pro? Maybe a revised Mac Mini (and a medium machine - Mac Mini, Mac and Mac Pro) to go with a new series of desktop machines.

I honestly think there's a market to bring back desktop to being king over laptops now we have cloud storage and interchangability of hand-over work within iOS and Mac OS.

If they announce iOS 12 and macOS 10.14, it will be a disappointment. They need to clear/fix the bugs for at least one year. The WWDC '18 image brings back memories of old iOS and OS X UI. Hope they will mix the old and new.

Prepare to be disappointed. Craig and Tim don't care about stability and bug fixes, they only care about emoji and ********s...
