Hopefully not a snooze fest of minor incremental updates. I’m going to try not to get my hopes up. Apple is overdue for something big, hopefully something “game changing”, but I wont hold my breath.

Also, I can’t believe May is only 2 months away.

Good. Classic live events were full of boring moments and some moments of cringe. Going to a livestream Nintendo Direct format has been better than ever since they trim the fat and get right to what you want and delivering said info

DIRECTLY

to you. (I miss you Satoru Iwata)

I just can't believe it took COVID for other companies to follow Nintendo's successful marketing strategy.
hate to say it, but I'm with you here. Nintendo Directs are one of my favorite things to look forward to. (flawless formatting here by the way; R.I.P Iwata 💜)

live keynotes post-Jobs/post-Schiller are just not it. the only person that comes close to having their stage presence is Kevin Lynch, the lovable, enthusiastic, goofy nerd that he is. (he feels almost like someone you want to root for, if that makes any sense? dude went full-speed ahead with the Watch and was integral to making it what it is today. I still miss Time Travel, I'd bet anything that was his pet project and just didn't take off the way it should have.)

we don't have a combined hour of useless applause for new features anymore. we don't get shocks and gasps tripping up presenters when they're showing something as f—king ridiculous as a $1k stand, or…wheels. things are to the point, concise (unlike my own comment 😝), and I can actually fit watching the keynote into my day while getting to have my own "viewing party" uninterrupted by Apple simps in the live audience.

the only thing I can see a live keynote being good for at this point is the headset. but I don't think we will get that. no one was as flawless at demoing items (in their INCREDIBLY volatile state, everything planned to a TEE with multiple replacement devices if needed) as Jobs. plain and simple. his original iPhone/iPad demos live in my head rent-free.

The Covid death rate is nearly identical to a year ago and has remained static since then: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklydeaths_select_00

2,060 deaths in the US last week due to Covid.

The public health emergency has not ended and the death rate shows no signs of abating.

There is no reason to say the pandemic is over now if there wasn't a reason to say it a year ago as the death rate is the same.
We're obviously not looking at the same data.

2,060 deaths last week. 1 year ago, there were 5,623 deaths. How is the death rate, in your words, the same? It was more than 2x higher a year ago... close to 3x what it was last week.

The word you're looking for is "endemic"

Fully remote even if Covid isn’t an issue? It’s like apple looked at the situation and decided doing things remote might actually be better.

I'm sure it's SO much easier to do it this way that they don't want to go back to in person events. As much as I loved attending WWDC over the years, the Moscone center was always kinda a nightmare. Never enough space, WIFI always sucked, and super inconvenient for Apple. I do hope they go back to in-person events again, but can understand them wanting to give it up.

Ah, in the image we see the 6-lens optic system in the new Apple headset which allows for dynamic depth perception.

There's a video by MrWhoseTheBoss that explains it best why Apple Event livestreams bring the hype while other companies like Samsung don't:

Essentially, they don't make it about the product, they make it about you, and what you can do with the product. They show what makes the product work, and how they're making it better, and how it'll make your life better. Versus Samsung that's like "okay here's the new Galaxy S phone see ya later!"

Ok, let's over-examine the image first...

So, looks lens-y..

So, images will be a focus (see what I did there?) of the keynote.

So, along with the rumored AR/VR headset announcement, expect improvements to all things having to do with cameras and imaging on Macs and iPhones and iPads..

Now, wild speculation...

My guess for the name of macOS 14 - Laguna Seca*

The OS update will focus on speed, performance, stability. Speed improvements for AI/image processing/Search/Siri/Video/gaming, etc, etc

There will also be ties to CarPlay and the rumored Apple Car, and to promote all of that.. Apple sponsoring something involving motorsports, especially at Laguna Seca. An EV Endurance race? Something.

(*Yes, yes, I know, it's now called Weathertech Raceway.. I'll call it Laguna Seca forever, sorry)

Really curious about “xrOS” actually, so many questions. Hardware also but I expect limited information.

it kinda makes me wonder why they have so many OSs. It looks like the Scully years, except in software.

It's going to be REALLY interesting to see what Apple does with iOS 17. Due to legal pressures from the European Union antitrust authorities and the DoJ Antitrust Division in the USA, iOS 17 may (in my opinion!) essentially be iOS 16.5 but with improvements to Notifications, support for multiple app stores inside the App Store app, open access to the NFC functionality and the ability to use other web browsers with their own web layout engines (Blink with Chrome, Gecko with Fireflx).
