I never enjoyed watching movies / videos on iPad because of the aspect ratio of the device. Even with bigger screen you get smaller picture with huge black lines. Especially if movie itself is in 2.35:1 CinemaScope format.
It's great for watching older 4:3 TV series though. I hope that Apple doesn't change the aspect ratio, because 4:3(-ish) is better for almost everything but movies.

The problem with a notch/whatever is that, while in the iPhone there’s a clear default orientation (many things are even disabled on landscape, including the homescreen), there’s no “right orientation” on the iPad.
Just add two notches, problem solved.

Apple. The problem isn't your hardware. It's your software. Until they figure out how ( or have the guts to do it ) to put macOS on an iPad I grow less and less interested in an iPad. I use my phone more and more in its place. It's feeling like a third wheel in the laptop / phone relationship.

What's the point of macOS on an iPad when laptops already provide that? macOS has been getting more and more touch-friendly as they bring iOS UI changes over, but it's still not 100% finger-friendly. It would be frustrating to use.

Are there certain Mac apps that you'd want to be using on an iPad that aren't available as iPad apps? This doesn't seem like an operating system issue, but rather an app availability issue.

You’re eventually going to have to accept that the iPad is in decline and will become an irrelevant. The paradigm is dead, and all the “what’s a computer” marketing in the world couldn’t manage to convince everyone of its usefulness.
Apple sold more than twice as many iPads in 2022 than Macs and MacBooks combined. I don’t see how that means that it's dead.

People are buying bigger iPhones. MacOS is still superior. And with things like Vision Pro becoming available it’s only a matter of time before the iPad goes the way of the iPod touch. Which is funny because indeed, everyone was correct in 2010, the iPad has proven itself to be nothing more than an oversized iPod touch. People bought units anyway, but that doesn’t validate its existence.

It only get worse from here for iPad fans. It never fit. It never will fit. 🪦🪦🪦

Wrong. Nothing else to say. 😎

15 inch or NO DEAL. 15 is best screen size for laptop computers ask any YouTuber.
Different aspect ratio, not quite comparable. Here's a 14.1" 4:3 iPad (blue) vs. a 15" 16:9 laptop (green):

I hope if they do this, they change the other sizes accordingly:

10” iPad Pro
12” iPad Pro
14” iPad Pro

For me, the 12.9” that I have is a bit bigger than I prefer. If it was 12” with smaller bezels, it would be about perfect. The 11” feels a little cramped, but less so with display scaling. If I were forced to upgrade next cycle, I would do 11”, but I would prefer 12”.

The iPad Pro also needs to run a lite version of macOS when using a mouse, keyboard, and/or external display. That would justify the price more to me.

Just more of that Apple PR hype. They didn’t “almost” do anything. Apple tests all sorts of devices. That is all this is.

A 14” OLED with that new rumored keyboard and LTE would be GOAT’d. I could *probably* replace my Mac for most tasks so long as display extension comes at some point (lol).

Unlikely. 61 million iPads were sold in 2022 vs. only 26 million Macs and MacBooks.
I'm not sure that statistic is useful - for one thing, a family may have one iMac but two, three ipads. Moreover, people may use their desktops and macbooks for longer, perhaps upgrading iphones and ipads at a faster rate. Finally, many people probably encounter macos at work. Of course every case is different but you can't throw a rock without hitting an iMac or macbook in the university setting anyway. I contend it would be rare someone who even only owns an iPad has not had practical experience using macos on someone else's or a work machine

No 24" ipad, no sale.

what i'd love most about larger ipads than currently out is we'll end up with 4 columns of icons and 2-3" margins on each side! think different.

That’s disingenuous - I’m sure most iPad users are not only familiar with macOS but also have an iMac or MacBook. Some people just use the iPads differently than others
Most? Not likely. Apple’s said that half of the folks buying iPads are new to Apple. Considering how Apple roughly sells twice as many iPad units as Mac units, that’s a very large number of folks not interested in macOS.

It’s been clear for awhile that the iPad is more important than macOS for Apple. Folks not paying close attention will see that iPad revenue is, yearly, within a few percent, usually lower, than the Mac revenue and think that means Macs are still king. But, one must consider that most iPads sell for well under the highest selling Macs and, EVEN selling for cheaper, the revenue still rivals the Mac. That’s a massive number of unit sales per year. Adding to that, the iPad is more likely to yield after-sale services revenue, which means a good chunk of the huge services pie (after iPhone) is due to the iPad, not the Mac.
