Was it, though? My understanding is that they're still selling watches with blood oxygen in every other country. So they stole technology from an American company and sell that stolen tech in every other market except the US because the company they stole from cannot prevent them from doing so.

Does that sound like justice to you?
Patent law as we know isn’t as simplistic as this post makes it out to be. You can be sure if Apple went afield if patent laws abroad we would know about it. It’s extra ordinarily nuanced.

So it does seem like justice has been served.

In the real world, two things can be true at once. The can care about users and care about profits. Sometimes one has priority over the other. Sometimes they both lead to the same decision.
Incorrect it’s far easier to sell things to people if you act a certain way

If all Apple cared about was maximizing profit margins they would do a lot of stuff that they don't. Obviously profits are incredibly important to any company, but they're not the end all and be all.

Some examples of things Apple doesn't currently do that could earn it more profit/cost them less money:
  • Build detail behavioral profiles of users; share/sell this data to advertisers
  • Running thing on device rather in the cloud (more expensive to do on device AND arguably results in worse results)
  • Not offer end-to-end encryption for iCloud/iMessage etc. so they could mine it for data
  • Accept bloatware from companies that pay to be pre-installed on iOS
  • Insert ads into the Lock Screen/UX
No what they do is for example is
It’s far easier to sell things to people if they think you care and are nice to them
Classic

Justice was served to Apple right? It’s funny to ding Apple when justice has been served. The eu governing body clearly was out to get Apple .
Yeah the EU are out to get apple
At every opportunity
That big bad European government how dare they implement things only against apple and nobody else

Look, I'm not so naive to think that Apple is going to put customers in front of profits 100% of the time, or even the majority of the time, but I don't think you can legitimately argue that Apple doesn't care about its users' privacy and security.

I don't think the EU is out to get Apple per se, but I do think the EU is philosophically opposed to closed ecosystems and vertical integration, and given Apple is the only major player that is closed and vertically integrated, a lot of the DMA does unfairly target Apple and takes choice away from customers who prefer that platform type.

It’s like anything if you get treated well then your more likely to go back there and spend money that’s just the nature of the beast
That is how they do it by using certain types of language

It was a joke the EU aren’t out to get apple

I guess some people need to think of the world as black or white in order to make sense of it. Good luck with that.

They were.

The way the laws are written yes, they were. Basically playing robin Hood.

Yes. I see we are in agreement about that.
It’s called sarcasm the EU are not out to get apple

So you’re saying the EU are writing laws that steal from the rich to give to the poor?
So are you saying that apple is the sheriff of Nottingham

  • Haha

Well it works
If you give off the impression that your here to help people then you can pretty much sell customers anything
History tells you that

Imo the EU is/was out to get Apple. And yes I’m saying the eunwrites laws that takes revenue away from the iPhone holder and allows freeloading by anyone who wants in on that action.

What is freeloading?
What does that mean
So you think the EU is Robin Hood and apple is the sheriff of Nottingham
If that’s the case then I like that story

When I read through these threads I always have to remind myself that at any given time about 30% of a given population would prefer to live under authoritarianism.

(I wish I could pull up the source when/where I'd heard that)

Slightly translated to this specific topic:
There are definitely people would want to have Apple control everything on their devices.

It means businesses get to profit off of apples success with by law with little to no investments on their part. Freeloading.

I do.

lol.
I still don’t get what you mean by freeloading off of apple?
how does a company as you say freeload off of apple how does a company do that on iOS
nobody is asking for apple to give away chips or products away to other companies

But EU is making Apple give software products away to other companies. They’re also making Apple give away access to use its platform without paying Apple.

Yes, the eu has asked Apple to give away its ip. The ask is buried within the language of the DMA.

What the EU has asked apple to give companies for better access to the OS?

They are demanding AirDrop work on Android devices. That's Apple technology that Apple uses to differentiate its products that is being given away. It's no different than demanding that Spotify give Apple Music access to the results of Spotify's music recommendation algorithm for free.

That has no bearing to the fact that Apple is giving away its IP.
Well it does because I suspect you’re argument is that it’s apple’s IP as you say to have their products connect better with the OS
Yet as a company you allow 3rd parties onto your platform yet you don’t allow them the same access to the OS this giving yourself an advantage over the competition

None of that is the point. The eu has asked Apple via the DMA to make it like android. Company’s get to piggy back on apples success for free.

What’s wrong with that if they are on the platform
