There is a video game on Netflix right now. Minecraft Story Mode (or it used to be on there). They also have Bandersnatch and a few other chose your outcome video programs. A few animal ones aimed at kids.

Apple ought to allow Microsoft, Playstation and whatever comes from Netflix. Game streaming is coming. I don’t like it as much as native but it’s great in a pinch.

An executive from EA? This is bound to fail.
Regardless of what you think of EA as a company (such as the loot box controversy), they have managed to stay afloat and move up to the top for a large chunk of time. This executive is highly lucrative for establishing this Netflix gaming brand.

I would be happy if Netflix would rather keep focusing on/producing/funding “interactive” films instead. They’re pretty unique, not much else is out there like that. I’ve only tried the Black Mirror one and the Shrek cat but were cool.

EA is local to Netflix, makes sense they would hire someone that's already here.
EA is run by a bunch of idiots. Look at how far they've fallen over the last 20 years.

Their games are extremely bad compared to what they used to be and they've cut many of their franchises out of the equation. Madden, for example, is all about microtransactions and copying and pasting the same game year after year with just a roster update.

I guess I won't get my hopes up here.

It is not clear how Netflix's gaming offering will work nor if the company plans to develop original gaming content. Netflix could have a cloud gaming setup similar to Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, or it could work with developers on original titles, making it more similar to Apple Arcade.
Yes it is clear. Netflix is the king of streaming video and they plan to be a big player in streaming games. I don't see why it's so complicated.

Not every gaming platform is in direct competition with each other. Whatever Netflix has in mind will doubtless aim at a different segment of the market. Thankfully not everyone likes the same types of gaming experience!

I’d welcome some healthy competition here. Although lately the game library on Apple Arcade has been seriously impressive. Sure, not AAA games but I don’t think that’s the market they’re aiming for. More for a halfway point between a game you play on the toilet for a few minutes and casual gaming on the couch.

It's too bad Apple doesn't break down inidivudal revenue amounts in their second biggest revenue maker Service. If I had to guess the order from most revenue to least(just revenue, not gross profit) it would be: Apps, Music, AppleCare, AppleOne, AppleTV+, Arcade.

Apple is a for profit business but me thinks Arcade currently isn't a growing Apple concern (though one day soon maybe it will). Now if Netflix said they might start a music streaming site to take on AppleMusic (and Spotify)? Cupertino's ears would perk up.

I hope they can pull of a netflix type service for their games. The only one that comes close is Microsofts gamepass, but they don't have a huge amount of games. Games seem to be a much harder market to corner though with so many exclusivity deals.

All you can play with no ads or IAP for a small amount of money a month isn’t going to work for anybody. There has to be AAA titles coming out somewhat frequently to keep mobile gamer attraction on top of regular games too. Apple hasn’t had a massive hit on Apple Arcade. They are now only putting classic games on there.
People here on the forum are obsessed with mega hits. There’s quite a market for people who do not have time, inclination, or similar to invest in those “massive hits” and are perfectly content with other games that many forum members would dismiss.

Netflix is too expensive nowadays. Seems like they’re always trying to follow Apple’s business plan.
Right. Netflix copied Apple's business plan of becoming an OTT subscription provider and creating original content.

Would Apple News+ be more, less, or as successful as Arcade?

Also, AppleOne is a bundle of services and you left out Fitness+ and iCloud

Apple Arcade facing competition? Rofl. That's a laugh. Apple Arcade is an abject failure in every sense of the word. No AAA-games, recycling old iOS games and the list goes on. Netflix is going to show Apple what a gaming service should be.

Hey! I'm not the CFO of Apple :) (just kidding, haven't eaten dinner and the blood sugar is getting low).

Thanks for filling it in, I definitely missed those, and they may be lower than Arcade. It's hard to know those categories under Apps, Music, AC+, iCloud (I assumed AppleOne would get its own sub category line, maybe not). I believe those are the big hitters.
While Arcade, News, Fitness would be my guess as the bottom feeder revenue generators.
On AppleTV+, it likely isn't a big profit generator (its operating cost must be huge) but its revenue line probably is 1.5B per year(?). If Arcade News and Fitness together generates above 500 million per year I'd be surprised.

(Edit: to be certain of this, these are my guesses. Maybe 15 accountants at Apple would know the actual answer).

I wonder what the stats are on Apple Arcade usage? I signed up at the beginning to play ocean horn 2 which was fun til its horrible ending... then I cancelled my subscription cus there was nothing else worth playing... now I pay the same amount to have Nvidia geforce now and I can play cyberpunk 2077 on my same tv with the same xbox controller... big upgrade...

Apple needs to stop piss farting around with these crap games on Apple Arcade, they need to start buying these well known gaming companies instead, not like they can’t afford it. 🙄
Apple is thinking long term. When you buy a large media company, you are stuck with their brand and their content for better or worse. It gets you subs and eyeballs but Apple doesn't care about that. Apple is more like Disney or HBO. They make content that is easily recognizable as Apple-centric so they are building ATV+ from scratch without relying on large catalogs of pre-existing content to artificially pump up subscribers. Same goes for games on Apple Arcade. Ten years from now we will be acknowledging this strategy and Apple as truly unique in a world of streaming generic commodities. You cannot buy brand. You have to build it.
