I wonder what the stats are on Apple Arcade usage? I signed up at the beginning to play ocean horn 2 which was fun til its horrible ending... then I cancelled my subscription cus there was nothing else worth playing... now I pay the same amount to have Nvidia geforce now and I can play cyberpunk 2077 on my same tv with the same xbox controller... big upgrade...
By default, it’s everyone on an AppleOne plan, which a lot of people are. Though, again, we don’t know how many.

Great, they ruined a bunch of classic movies and now they will ruin a bunch of classic games. o_O

I don't think this will be competing with Apple Arcade. I doubt that Netflix would make hardware anytime soon. So it would probably be streaming, means that it's competition for Stadia, Geforce Now, etc. Not Apple Arcade specifically.

Apple would just ban their game streaming app from their walled garden like they did with XCloud and Stadia. Why not since the regulators are Asleep at the wheel?

Somehow I don't think Apple Arcade is in competition with whatever Netflix comes out with... I don't think Apple Arcade is in competition with anyone really though.

I think that's spot on.
Is there anyone that dropped xbox or playstation because of Apple Arcade? Unlikely because Apple Arcade is much more casual gaming, those aforementioned platforms are for the more serious gaming.
Would there be any tangible numbers in the Apple eco who use Apple Arcade now thinking "yes! Netflix may have an Arcade too! Honey, cancel Apple Arcade!". Maybe a slice of switches but the numbers would be paltry for big companies like Netflix and Apple.
Arcade is basically an Apple user base value add offer that a minority slice will accept. Largely casual gaming from your Apple device that requires no maintenance, overthink and little setup. IMHO Netflix embarking on an Arcade advertising blitz wouldn't likely change Apple's Arcade subscribe numbers in a tangential way (I also think the reverse would be true).

On these smaller value add offers (Arcade, Fitness, News), there really isn't competition. The only competition is getting more in the user base to click ok -- something the numbers (I suspect) suggest most opt not to.

Can we all be honest here?
I am a hardcore Apple fanboy and even I know Apple Arcade had all the potential in the world, and in reality it is complete crap. Even mentioning ”Apple Arcade Facing Competition…” is already reaching, given that it can’t compete with ANY of the gaming offerings out there. I doubt Netflix is thinking “oh look at the great work they are doing with Apple Arcade, we can make money that way” because yeah…. No one wants to be like Apple Arcade, if anything they could be looking at xCloud, Stadia, or GFN (notice I don’t mention Amazon Luna, because it’s as much of a failure as Apple Arcade)

Hope not...... Don't want Apple artificially shut down one good gaming company to potentially incorporate some part of it into their offerings.

Happy to play in my different gaming devices that I own that don't involve Apple - they can keep their crappy Apple Arcade.
He's right. Games on Apple Arcade just like movies in Apple TV are crap :/

I hope Netflix's games are on a different platform dedicated to gaming. I don't even want to see the option when I log in.
It's going to be distributed from Netflix rigs . . cloud based / decentralized clusters . . . crunching whatever AI stream needs to head your way . . . agnostic of your device

Netflix Streaming VR.

o_O

They really missed their chanceS in not buying Bungie back in the day but then, Apple weren't 100% serious they wanted games on their platform.
Apple needs to stop piss farting around with these crap games on Apple Arcade, they need to start buying these well known gaming companies instead, not like they can’t afford it. 🙄
Just imagine if Bungie did come back into the  Verse....

Marathon • Myth • Oni All Mac only Games once upon a time.....

Typical click-bait headline. They're not facing more competition because Netflix hasn't yet released such a service. Until that point, there's no additional competition from Netflix.

BREAKING: SpaceX facing more competition from space ships I may or may not build in my garage at some point in the future.

This is sorta like how Goog–sorry I mean Waymo keeps saying their cars have better self-driving capabilities than Tesla's. Except Netflix isn't claiming anything.

This is exactly it. I signed up for the free trial when Arcade launched. Played it a couple of times to pass a few minutes here and there. Cancelled as it was not worth 5 bucks. I moved into AppleOne becuse I was already paying 17 a month for family music and iCloud storage for everyone. for 3 more bucks throw in Arcade and AppleTV+.

*If there was no AppleOne, I would not have Arcade and I suspect that goes for the majority.*

Apple Arcade lost 100% of the market in Hong Kong - because it’s totally not available here.

Meh, if it is the same as Apple Arcade, I am not interested.

Mobile/Lite games never interested me anyway.

That being said, a Bandersnatch game would be interesting, especially in VR.

Apple, just like all big companies, have been buying good companies and shutting them down or never updating their products ever since they've had money in their pockets.

Apple is thinking long term. When you buy a large media company, you are stuck with their brand and their content for better or worse. It gets you subs and eyeballs but Apple doesn't care about that. Apple is more like Disney or HBO. They make content that is easily recognizable as Apple-centric so they are building ATV+ from scratch without relying on large catalogs of pre-existing content to artificially pump up subscribers. Same goes for games on Apple Arcade. Ten years from now we will be acknowledging this strategy and Apple as truly unique in a world of streaming generic commodities. You cannot buy brand. You have to build it.
I'm struggling to reconcile your second sentence with your closing one 🤔

Recently got a new Apple TV 4K, and free arcade for 3 months…tried it and it’s pants. Games are crap. I don’t see why with the power it’s got the games aren’t more like a console. Even on the phone there’s call of duty mobile, which is ace

I can't wait for the BoJack Horseman game, where you get to mope around the house and apologise for your crappy behaviour a lot.

At the moment all Apple Arcade has done is concentrate on mobile gaming rather than more substantial titles for their desktop lines, that's why I've had no interest in Apple Arcade. All we have is speculation with regards to Netflix offering and by all accounts it could well be too early for Netflix to know what they want to do, it could be that the two services target different audiences.
