I know several friends not on this forum that tried to get the bumper and no luck. I think they are done with it now and know what the fix is and it's not a bumper or are holding off since they will have some other form of distribution of the free bumpers until a permanent fix is found.

Did they plan on possibly giving out free bumpers initially and are holding out the colors to actually sell?

:)

Why no colors, I seemed to have missed it.

This was my thought as well. Apple realized the issue, freaked, found a quick fix in the bumpers, calmed a little, felt as though it might not be a big issue and giving out bumpers with the phones would highlight the problem, decied to ship naked and offer bumpers as $30 accessories.

It's just weird that the colored versions aren't available. Seems that if they just planned on taking a loss on the black, they would have the colored versions available to still be able to sell?

I dunno.

*takes off tin foil hat

After talking to a Senior Advisor today, I'm being shipped a free bumper. Keep in mind that he called me this morning as I've been on the phone with them several times already. He said just to call him back if I have any other issues. Very nice guy.

I spoke with Apple yesterday after setting up a call back. The rep (not a supervisor) read my notes from when I initiated the call back, and immediately said he was shipping out a free cover and to expect a permanent fix by Friday the 2nd. I was told all of that within one minute without me saying more than five words.

Now, I need to get the proximity sensor issue fixed before I hang up on another person on accident.

called in today. specialist said he would offer me a free bumper... if they had any in stock. anyone else try today?

The rep I spoke with today was quite rude and would not send me anything. I was calm and patient on the phone and only challenged here scripted answers with questions that required some thinking.

In the end... Go to the Apple Store she said and look for a bumper....

They are sending me one today.

It required firm persistence. My phone (naked phone) has made my fingers tingle, which I'm *not* cool with...to say nothing of the reception issues.

I simply made it very clear that this phone requires a rubber bumper to operate correctly, thus it should have been included from the get go, and I'd really appreciate Apple taking the opportunity to fix this problem for me.

10 more minutes on hold.
Bumper on the way.

you talked to the rep today? or they shipped it out today.

once they issue the coverup software patch, they can go back to their old standby of blaming AT&T's network.

Ok just got off phone with Apple UK support.

She had the gall to repeat Steve Jobs and say I was holding it wrong, then she told me to buy a bumper, I said why should i have to buy a bumper when its Apple who made it with this fault. She kept going on about how I was holding it wrong, i said they were giving away free bumpers and she said that is not true, she has not heard anything like that. I said well I want one free as I am not paying to fix a problem you caused, she said well I don't have the authority to give free bumpers so all i can suggest is to go into an apple store and ask them.

I said I heard Apple are releasing a software update to fix the problem is this true? She said as far as she is aware there is NO software update. I said so there is nothing being done to fix the problem? She said as far as I am aware there is nothing being done and the advice is to not hold the phone that way or buy a bumper.

Pathetic...

Guy i talked to was a Senior advisor.
(man i could barely understand what he was saying)
but he did mention, that they're just waiting for a new batch of bumpers...

I'm just waiting for a call back now.

The sad fact is although I put a bumper on mine it barely improved it. Even worse it killed the appearance of the phone. It's like having a band aid on ones face. There's no hiding it. So now I have an ugly iPhone with a crippled phone. Apples finest... Yeah right!

LOL I called the supervisor suggested for me to put electric tape around my phone....hhahahah stupid. She said she has been given strict orders not to give out any more free bumpers.

once they issue the coverup software patch, they can go back to their old standby of blaming AT&T's network.

Sad, but very true.

I use an AT&T BlackBerry for work, and my iPhone 4 for personal use. For the last two years, the 3G BlackBerry has demonstrated excellent call quality, while my iPhone 3Gs would breakup & drop calls. There's proof that the network is fine.

I find it very interesting that prior to the iPhone, there was none of the AT&T bashing that exists today. I'm not advocating for AT&T, just sharing my personal experience.

Always, Always, Always speak to a manager. The stupid lowly reps you get on the phone first cant do squat.

I asked to speak to a manger after one of those idiots told me they cant give you free bumpers, and within 1 minute of speaking to the senior advisor, I have 2 free bumpers on the way, one for me and one for my wife. He was very apologetic and gave me his direct extension in case I have more issues.

I also called AT&T, actually called them first thinking it wasn't the phone. They gave me a standard $25 credit on my next bill.

The senior adviser i just spoke to said he was told no more free bumpers. He didn't think that there would be any type of fix as this is normal behavior.

I hope that they completely stop giving out free bumpers so these threads will finally stop once and for all. While they are giving them to some people and not others its only encouraging more people to create bumper threads :(

I called, and no luck. How long should I wait between calls? I didn't ask the guy to direct me to a supervisor, which is probably why I didn't get the bumper.
