I called twice and both times they said they could do nothing because their engineering team is working on a fix for next week.

So how many times is everyone trying this? I just got off the phone with someone who claimed that, since the case isn't a proven fix, they cannot provide one. I really don't want to come across as a mooch or anything, but I'm genuinely having this issue and would like Apple to rectify it. So should I call back and speak with someone else and keep doing this until I get a bumper? Or what?

Do the sensible thing and wait for the announcement regarding this issue Monday.

Probably not a terrible idea. I just thought it peculiar that, after I spend the amount I did on this phone, I'm being told to " be a little patient for a few weeks."

I just got off the phone with Apple. Apple rep told me...

Just hold it in your right hand. Holding it in your left hand causes issue with the antenna. I asked if I put a case on it won't it cover the antenna as well? Will this improve signal. She said probably make it worse. WTF? So they did not offer to send me out anything for free. Told me to reset my network connections and call back if that didn't work. Wow great advice.. Also No ETA on Fix. She said she was not aware of any.

same **** was say to me. they even told me to call ATT. what a ass

I just called Apple Support. I told her my situation (always stay polite) and she transferred me to her supervisor. They will send me that free Apple Bumper in black because they think that it will fix the antenna problem. He mentioned that it will take a week before I'll receive the bumper. Great service by Apple!

Everyone here is missing the point. I didn't ask for the bumper bus asked me if I wanted one. I wasn't calling apple care to complain, I called for support on a fix. That's the difference with me an everyone else here that just wants free stuff.

I called looking for a fix too and was told to screw off and get a new phone.

I called Apple, and the rep told me that he had heard that the bumper was a temporary fix, and that he would transfer me to a supervisor. The supervisor was very nice, apologized for the problem I was having, and said that he would have a bumper sent out to me. He took my information and said I should receive it in 2-3 days.

cool. i know i spoke to an apple rep online chat before just to see what they would say and she said hold it in your right hand. haha.

Ha, heres wondering... I know the problems bad for lefties, but what about amputees? I have a friend who lost his right arm from hand to elbow joint in a car accident. He's actually ordered one of the iPhones, but is caught in the backlog from the pre-ordering stage.

Makes me wonder if hes stumbled onto a VERY lucrative lawsuit... Hes worried at any rate about it working :(

That should be fun! I'm supprised at the advise the apple reps are giving out. They are just terrible.

The guy I got when I phoned yesterday hadn't received the call yet about signal issues, and they hadn't had the email guidelines by then. He struggled to sugar coat the directions to me to hold it in my right hand, even when I'm left handed, but it didn't work. In the end, he just laughed along with me. I think he (at least one of the apple customer reps have some common decency) realised how appalling the situation was, in light of the amount of money I'd paid, and said look, we don't usually do this and aren't technically meant to, but I'm gonna pass you onto my supervisor.

Thankfully I ended up with a free bumper. Still very annoyed at the nuisance and basic lack of functionality and empathy from Apple on such a premium product.

Tried twice with 2 different supervisors. No luck. I guess I'll just wait until they release an update

It's very odd at how inconsistent they have been. I had no issues AT ALL getting my bumpers sent out, and it was 6, let alone one!

Some folks seem to be having success after a couple phone calls, and others, none at all.

Never seen so much inconsistency before in a company.

It's like they know the right thing to do is give them out, but they are withholding from a mass send out because that admits fault.

I think the policy has now changed

After emailing another user here, I believe that they now have a company-wide policy not to give out the bumpers. This was different yesterday when they were dealing with it on a case-by-case basis and some of us were offered bumpers.

One poster told me he tried three different times and they would not even let him speak to a supervisor. So I wouldn't waste my time now calling them, but wait and see what their public statement will be. My guess is it will come tomorrow.

In spite of the problems of this launch, I still believe in Apple and their products.

I agree with their products. I'm still absolutely in love with my iP4... no questions.

I love all my apple products like they were my own!

5 bars all the time! Even when you drop a call.

I had crazy network signals all the time with the iPhone 3G. Sometimes Edge and 3G networks will only appear when they are not in use. As soon as I make a call, use the browser or youtube it drops. Instantly. I don't see how that can be hardware.

The iPhone 4 is doing it a bit differently, out of nowhere it will have 5 bars of 3G and countdown like AT&T has instituted a time limit, then it will go back to one bar of Edge. All I want is an indicator that is accurate...not optimistic or pessimistic but ACCURATE.

To be honest I think AT&T put more R&D in how to make people think they have a good connection, rather than improve their service. As soon as Apple announces a Verizon iPhone it's game over. Hell I don't even care if I have to hang up to cruise the interwebs, I have a Verizon Mifi that trounces all over my Sat connection at home. Can't wait to introduce my boot to AT&T's arse. I'ma make it bounce!

/off topic

I already ordered bumpers before launch. I almost consider it a fair trade to avoid the customer service network.

My free bumper case confirmation email

Just got off the phone with Apple tech support and they told me that the only fix was to put tape on the left side of the phone. Then when I asked if it was a software or hardware issue, he said software. He also told me that it would be a couple of weeks for an official fix.

Can somebody tell me how putting tape on the side of my phone fixes the software side?

Oh, and no free bumper here.

Sounds like you should have raised hell more :p

So funny how the different apple techs are.

Just called Apple and after about 40 mins of talking/holding I got the supervisor to send me out a free bumper. She said she would send out an email with her contact information in case I have any other issues and that I should be receiving an email when the order goes through. I haven't gotten anything yet (it's only been an hour though). I'll post back when I hear something.

I called a few hours ago and spoke with a supervisor.

He was apologetic, but said that they will have a fix next week.

When I mentioned that I had heard of other people who were compensated in the form of a free bumper, he acknowledged that this was the case. He said that while he normally would be able to do that, and would do it for me, that Apple had sent notice to all CSR people that they would NOT be providing bumpers anymore.

So, all I got was a long questionnaire, and the promise that it will be resolved soon.
