Silly people. No one OWNS an iPhone. They own the right to use the iPhone. Welcome to the new world where buying a product does not mean that you can do what you want with it. You can only do what the manufacturers say you can do with it.

Didn't you understand "I'm not paying $99 to be able to use my own applications on my own device, on a yearly basis"? :) EDIT: OK maybe this a bit harsh.. so... i'll expand:

Sure you can offically freely develop iPhone applications, but only targeted towards the Simulator - not a device. You need to pay $99 to put the applications on a real device.

Sure - if I wanted to develop applications for the iOS AppStore I'd have no problems with paying Apple $99.

Years ago, you had to pay for developer tools for any platform. Nobody jumped up and down complaining it should be free. So now the fee has moved from the tools to the developer program. $99 is the cost to develop apps for the iPhone. Deal with it.

And given every jailbreak is exploiting a security whole, what will happen when Apple plugs them all? What will you do then? It's not like you can claim Apple shouldn't plug security holes.

Queue the hitler response.....

And when Hitler's constituents thought he was wrong, he decided to annihilate those who didn't want to see things his way too. Destroying opposition rather than improving one's self is way's a "#WINNING" thing to do.

Wow, I gotta get some credit for that one... Charlie Sheen, Apple, and Hitler all in one sentence!

Hitler? What the heck. This is one company exercising their right to control its product. How you got to Hitler is beyond bizzare. This is just an electronic device

"Hey I can't Jailbreak my phone! Darn Apple is like Genghis Khan!"

Well Cydia is like being a virgin then having sex with a whore then getting STDs that constantly slow down your OS. It might be good in the short term, but you'll have to work hard to keep the swelling down with various lotions and creams. But unlike STDs, you can revert to a clean version of the OS anytime you want. :p

And apple has nothing to do with iOS slow downs? What happens when you run iOS 4 on your iphone 3g? Cydia isnt the only culprit of that (if it is at all). Plus the benefits are long term. See my previous post about examples of what you can do with your phone if its jailbroken.

Plus i would venture that most people would rather have sex throughout their lives and deal with the risk of an occasional STD than to be a lifelong virgin. Take a look at the human race for evidence.

How many did iOS have FOR the iPad when it was announced? FIVE, and they were the five that APPLE created, but hey, live in your world.
Really? Your talking about apps ready at the announcement? let's talk launch day...

Apple had a phenomenal launch for the iPad. There were over 1000 apps available specifically for the iPad on launch day, with many 100's more appearing every week.

It was literally the strongest new product launch that I have ever experienced.
They managed the release of a new product where the quality and quantity of apps felt like the product had been around for years.

(sure, leveraging iOS helped, but Google failed at leveraging the same opportunity for their Honeycomb launch)

LOL - you remind me of "when I was young, we didn't have electricity, we had to go outside to the outhouse...", type of thing :D

This isn't 'years ago', this is the here and now. I'll deal with it by Jail breaking my device and patching XCode.

Why is Apple bothered by jailbreaking? Why does Apple oppose jailbreaking? Again, as a company which tightly controls the user experience of their devices and doesn't like news such as security flaws, I'm sure there are many things which bother them about jailbreaking, but again there is probably one primary cause: software piracy. Jailbreaking enables software piracy and there's not a whole lot that even the jailbreaking community can do about that.
That has never been Apples stance ( when ever I read their reasons) its become the "Common wisdom" among many people who are Anti Jailbreaking.

And they argue and argue with nonsense.

Jailbreaking is not unlocking yet you need to Jailbreak to unlock in the USA

Why Apple caused this due to control.

Unlocking is legal and many people just can't accept it.

This warranty issue is a non issue, the hardware has a problem, you restore your Iphone and then go to the Apple store.

You also point out another Myth created by apple, the "Quality of product" myth. They have to control the product to provide quality. So far I can name 10's to 100's of times Apple has failed to provide such good tight control on the quality of their products, from:

Updates to IOS that crash or disable basic functioning of the device to
Apps in apple's own App store that either violate peoples information and bank accounts to apps that simply do not work and people paid money for them. The Iphone antenna, yes these are just the examples I can quickly post.

I can prove apple is delinquent in its stewardship of "Quality" Apple has a great ability to be teflon company with Steve Jobs getting on stage and exclaiming the problem is never Apple its always something else. Steve should of ran for president............

Hmmm, a car company catering to a group largely comprised of teenagers and young adults whom (presumably) have little disposable income? Doesn't sound like the best idea to me personally, but what do I know...

That actually sounds exactly like the target market for Scions ;)

Just let it go Apple you're only going to make yourselves look like the bad guy again. If anything you're just bringing more attention to Toyota's marketing campaign. This reminds me of the iphone4 incident when they should of just let it go instead of making themselves look like big brother. Just let it go man

Is this a serious argument that Apple does not provide better quality products than everyone else out there or a rant about three (extremely vague and un-substantiated except for antenna) issues demonstrating that at SOME time in the past SOME of Apple's products have been less than perfect?

Um, what do you think Apple does? Have you been in an Apple Store lately? I'll tell you, its like a high school pep rally. Even Apple admits that the majority of their revenue comes from iGadgets, not Macs. That is, the majority of Apple's revenue comes from devices that cost less than $500. Devices that are based around an mp3 player. Apple would not likely be around today if it wasn't for "teenagers and young adults whom (presumably) have little disposable income" buying iPods.

Yes, Germans still tie their shoes by making little "knotsies/nazis"and the real reason Hitler committed suicide was that he got his gas bill.

It won't be long before somebody posts the Hitler and the Dallas Cowboys clip as Hitler and the iphone.

Geez!

The problem is that people want to think of an iPhone as a PC. They apply PC analogies and logic. However the reality is that the cell industry has more in common with appliances or consoles. It's traditionally a heavily curated environment.

Apple: Start with a "restricted" system and open it up to allow for PC like advantages. (The App Store is an example of this)

Google: Start with an "open" system and lock it down to meet carrier needs and leverage the advantages of curation. (The Google Market place is an example of this)

Android is still open... They are just going to be much more tighter on what Products qualify to get the google Logo and the android name.

Leave the jailbreak community alone Apple!! What is your ****ing problem??? Can't we just coexist???

Nope Apple is the ruler of all.

The master of the universe and the company that knows better than you do.

Just notice how they act.

What they censor and how hypocritical they are.

Only Uncle Steve can give you permission and he's never going to do that.

He's GOD according to many fanboys here...

All Hail Apple! (no special symbols needed). :) ha ha ha ha ha

You could just stop buying their stuff...I hear Windows phones need some friends.

I like to think of this like this:

You(apple) mow your lawn nice and neat and your heading inside when your neighbor(Toyota) starts mowing his lawn and the dead grass sprays on you nice lawn so you go and ask him if he would stop spraying grass on his lawn and as the neighbor are you going to no to him and continue spraying grass on his lawn probably not because then you(apple) and your neighbor(Toyota) then have hard feeling. You may sound like the bad guy but you don't want dead grass on your lawn. And if he did say no the his lawnmower(car) need some gas(iPod connectivity) your not going to want to give it to him.
I think of it like that

This whole discussion is stupid.

Apple is not going to endorse a major company's ad program that encourages the general consumer to JB their phone. It's risky for many people and it voids the Apple warrantee. Period.

Apple asking Toyota to pull it was the only thing they could do and Toyota was smart enough to see the error in their way.

Sorry... but JB has risks and it's not for everyone.

I mostly agree. The design philosophy will leave it more open then iOS, but the reality for most users is that their subsidized handsets are compromised in openness. Without rooting, functions like tethering or updated ROMs require carrier approval. At the same time rooting itself is discouraged or prevented by most manufactures (rather, they are trying to prevent). Even Google themselves require specific standards be met for access to critical closed apps like the Market Place. Android isn't very compelling w/o Google's closed source apps like Nav.
It's more then the logo and name. The core Android experience all but requires manufactures sacrificing control to Google.

much more tighter? Seriously? Can't you take the time to get a sentence correctly formed?

Either it's much tighter or much more tight, not much more tighter. And no, for all the Jailbreak folks, Jailbreak legally does not extend to corporate relationships.

I predict it's going to go much tighter than that. I keep seeing too many articles about security risks and issues with Android.... it's going to bite them hard and they will need to tighten the ship significantly or loose control.

Open source is a great concept, but in a commercial world, someone needs to step in a set the rules and walls or it just becomes it's own monster and a total mess.

Within the year, we'll see major changes in the Android camp.
