"You do realize that the right to personal property is just an agreement brought by human conflicts in the last couple thousand years, and a controversial one, right?"

The concept of "private property" and the rights of individuals to protect their own, is a fundamental and essential concept of human liberty.

It's apropos that one of the foundations of communism is the abolition of "private property".

It is telling that these two concepts are diametrically opposed.

Having written that, although I'm not opposed to the Apple Board of Directors granting large stock options and/or bonuses to their upper echelon of executives in exchange for four or five years of guaranteed service, it seems unwise to simply reward them for keeping their seats warm regardless of how well the company performs over the next several years. How much they receive should be reflective of how much revenue the company earns over that period. Don't pay people before and until they perform!

No. Take a deep breath, take it all in. No.

p.s.

For those downvoting. i challenge you to put up a thought trough, logical, well written response stating why this is necessarily so, and why i am necessarily wrong. My bet, you cant. There is no such thing. If it was the case, the question wouldnt have been debated for several hundred years. Heck, one man even went as far as to call this concept the enslaver of the i (Max Stirner, if anyone care). But yeah, feel free to swing. Just make it worth my time giving you a response if you do.

"Steve didn't have a salary. Do they?"

Steve amassed his wealth in other ways. How much was he worth at the time he died?

Your response evaded my question. Is (was?) Steve worth the money he had amassed in his life from his visions and accomplishments?

I built a profitable company starting out living on the floor of my sister's apartment with deep debt, zero credit, zero college degree, no business experience, no investors, no help, and no money in the bank.

Missed every movie from 2001 to 2011, the few video games I do own are still shrink wrapped, and the alarm is set for 5am by default.

Bravo for them, and GREAT for you because if they did it and I did it,
surely you can do it.

but if you can do it, they can do it, and we surely can do it, arent we all replaceable? then why is there a need to pay atrocious amounts of money to have an employee do his job?

----------

To all those people who believe it is the Foxconn worker that deserves the bonus, let me remind you that there is likely 100 twelve year-olds lined up for every 1 of those "sweat shop" positions. Why would the company pay out to workers that are a dime-a-dozen and can easily be replaced?

But I certainly do admire those workers. They are truly hard working folk that work to eat and they do it well. This is something the average U.S. worker has forgot. Workers in the U.S. are so lazy and entitled. People complain illegal immigrants are taking jobs? No, because the U.S. worker would never lower theirselves to work these jobs. For some reason, they feel "above" these jobs. There's a reason corporations have moved their manufacturing outside North America.

Actually, if it was up to the consumers - you know, those making these profits happen in first place - i think they'd rather see their money go towards decent pay and working conditions for the chinese labour, than towards fattening of already fat cats. But hey, thats just what i think.

Careful Apple, On the heals of your founder and inspirational leader's death, you gain headlines by cashing in on the success of his appeal to public. I have been an Apple fan for years and have bought more than my share of Apple devices (6 computers, 5 iPhones, 3 AppleTvs, 2 airport extreme base stations, 4 airport express base stations, 1 iPad) and I am even put off by the timing of this announcement.

I fear the era of Apple's dominance over it's competition in producing inspired products may be over.

I only ask for 1 share! :p

Why 5 iPhones? Did you drop them down the toilet by mistake or something?

god. not you people again.

first, i think Apple makes great products. Steve's vision has changed the world, and I hope Apple can continue to create great products. BUT - this is an example of exactly what the OWS protests are about. And I support them completely, even though I'm probably in the 3%.

These types of payouts are obscene, whether it's our beloved Apple or the evil Goldman Sachs. I agree that the execs work hard and help Apple be successful. The point is, they don't contribute 20,000 times as much as the factory workers putting together iPhones. Or 1,000 times as much as a mechanical engineer or software engineer. This is the out-of-control theft of the people's labor for the benefit of the elite that we have been trying to bring to light.

It's disgusting. And it has nothing to do with all the disinformation and propaganda seeking to discredit OWS (e.g. that the protesters don't want to work, want handouts, are uneducated, or are "mad" at the rich.) We are mostly mad at their enablers like you who defend the very people who are raping the world of its natural and human resources to satisy their own avarice. (Granted, there are degrees of guilt - oil companies do more to destroy the environment, clothing companies exploit cheap labor more, etc. But any time a company is benefiting from the labor of thousands of employees and redistributing the spoils of their work as hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses to executives, there is a perversion of society)

Go live in a socialist country. You've no concept of capitalism at all.

That must have been a really tough decision for them.

I agree with most people's comments on here that it could have gone toward something else. They are already making millions.

Why no jony ive?

Go read arn's post, #147. Wake up.

yup, arn's post is correct. These people that are complaining are the same people that think OWS is a good thing. It is not, look at Oakland. These people are for the most part idiots. I would bet most of them voted for obama too. I will never understand why these people want a welfare nanny state. America is the greatest counrty in the world, why do people want to ruin that?

:apple:

dont hate the player, hate the game.

I'm sorry but there is in NO WAY that Bruce Sewell should be awarded 1million shares at present value. He's only been at Apple for 3 years ... already when their worth billions! To be honest I feel Phil Schiller deserves double of what the others granted should have.

He's been with Apple through the Hell and High Water (Thick & Thin) and he's continually proven himself as LOYAL regardless of what the company/sales numbers was worth.

It's funny to read this article, and then see occupy protesters around the world (esp USA) with so many iphones. What a hypocrisy. At least apple doesnt claim to be a benevolent company, they are into wealth creation. I love how people think they represent something different. It is all about the bottom line.

Read the article again dude. He was not awarded 1,000,000 shares and present value. 150,000 at whatever the future value is.
