Outside of the topic, I do have concerns about the "Apple Bubble", and Apple being way too dependent on the iPhone for profits. As for Tim, I have additional concerns because every year he trips all over himself with questionable decisions/product executions.

Apple Music is not making many friends currently. The MacBook and Apple Watch launches were a joke. John Browett was a horrible move. Apple Maps. Confederate Flag banning stupidity. Updates that don't work because of gimped storage. Too much time spent with Carl Ichan.

Cumulatively I think all this makes Apple lose focus as an organization. It's concerning because we know that it took laser like focus and attention to detail to a nutty Steve Jobs scale to get Apple where it is. That lack of laser focus will take a toll.

Apple's move towards crappy started way before Steve Jobs was gone. In fact, his unbounded ego and unwillingness to listen to customers was pretty much the reason Apple has slid so far. Are they profitable? Yes. Are they putting out good products and updates? No.

This is nice but political at the bottom. Now Apple has to support other political issues too.

Yes, political. Hundreds of companies already support thousands of causes. What makes this newsworthy is how little support this cause has, historically. Unless you're saying all companies with any political participation must do so in a balanced way. That would be worth discussing.

I don't think Apple has become crappy, so much as they've moved away from their classic strengths to become more of a generalized consumer electronics company. They still make good products, but the products you used to like them for are no longer their major focus.

If we're honest, Apple these days is a high end cellphone company who happens to sell some decent, easy to use computers.

If Apple really believes this, then they should also be supporting the recently introduced First Amendment Defense Act.

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-acti...vent-discrimination-for-opposing-gay-marriage
While I think no one should be discriminated against for certain things like jobs and opportunities, it has been shown to go overboard when people disagree with their choices.
While you shouldn't discriminate because of who they are (no matter what), you should not be forced to participate in what they do.

This is a key point. At issue are mostly jobs and the duties of a given job. If you can't stand the smell of human waste, you can't take a sewer repair job and then refuse to go through the manhole cover and then expect not to be fired. If you can't stand heights, you can't take a window washer job and then refuse to go over the edge and then expect not to be fired. You can't be afraid of drowning and then take a life guard job and then refuse to go swimming and then expect not to be fired.

Jobs facing the public include the duty to work with the public. Not just the public who are short and not just the public who are tall and not just the public who are white and not just the public who are brown and not just the public who are straight and not just the public who are gay. The fact that you didn't have to serve some group or other in the past wasn't because the definition of religious practice was different. It was because the definition of public was different.

You are not being forced to participate. Your public job is being forced to participate. And your participation in your job is voluntary.

I think everyone in the world has heard of Jesus Christ. But still for an omnipresent, omnipotent being you'd have expected him to let everyone in the world know about him regardless.
Knowing of him isn't enough, you need to know of the specific need to give yourself to him, ask forgiveness etc, and his relationship to god, etc? I don't think most people in the world know his teachings even if they do know of him, and that's including a lot of Christians. :D

Acccuuuaalllly, according to the Bible, fetuses don't have souls. [..]

So by Christine doctrine, abortion isn't murder at all. It doesn't address the subject directly, but it does mention forcing a miscarriage through "mischief" as being a crime worthy of nothing more than a fine. Like property damage, basically. It's pretty nonchalant about the rights of the unborn, all things considered.

BUT ANYWAY...
It seems like people interpret foetuses in heaven both ways.. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=do+fetuses+go+to+heaven&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari You'd think he'd be more clear about this stuff it was such a huge deal to him, but oh well?

It all depends on which parts people choose to adhere to, or conveniently ignore, and how they interpret them.

Like Matthew 13 could be used as a denouncement against those who choose to interpret the Bible literally and perfectly, taking anything beyond it's scope to be lies only worthy of dismissal. Or be used to denounce those who don't, choosing instead to look beyond it for answers. People read what they want to read, basically.

Y'know, after reading the last couple pages reminds me of why I had my crisis of faith and left the church (was raised Catholic).

I couldn't justify that I was right and that my religion was the "correct one", and not say, Buddhism, or Hindu, or Animism, etc.

With that said, I do understand what people are saying that they feel that LGBT rights somehow infringe on theirs. Tho, it does make me worry about their children and grandchildren who may be LGBT. LGBT teens have a higher rate of homelessness, and suicide, due in part to a lack of acceptance at home.

I was lucky, I have a mother who stood beside me and let me be the woman I grew up to be, but I know far too many teens who have to hide who they are because of their parents'/grandparents' religious beliefs (I volunteer at LGBT teen support groups as well as gender therapy groups).

One has nothing to do with the other.

And people who work for a company has just as much right to express their opinion as everyone else.

Companies shouldn't get involved in issues that don't have anything to do with the company.
Apple has it's own issues on how Chinese employees are treated. I guess if they were gay or LGBT or whatever they call themselves now they would be treated better?
Just shut up and build your damn toys

I think there has been a shift in the way companies present themselves to the public and also get involved. And I think it's a good thing - nobody is restricting any company from standing for what they choose to stand for, be it same-sex marriage support, equality in general and nobody is preventing a company from standing for racism or discrimination of minorities if they choose to do that - obviously the backlash can vary, but that's what you risk when you speak out in public - just like Apple might lose some customers due to their support of equality, others might lose customers due to their support of discrimination of others.

As far as it goes for China - obviously Apple simply does have not the necessary influence and leverage to change those issues on a large scale. Another topic, has nothing to do with their statements on laws and social conditions in their home country.

I bet you'd be singing a different tune if you agreed with apple on this. I hope they step up their social activism even more. I like my iDevices with some social justice on the side. :)

People who lived before Jesus were judged based on their faith in God. Abraham, for example.
Right, so Jews before Jesus were cool, and those after Jesus--even though nothing had changed for them--face eternal damnation. What of early man who hadn't yet thought of any concept of God, they were able to have faith in neither God nor Jesus. Not to mention people from areas that were not introduced to the Abrahamic religions until much, much later--those poor souls were created by God but were instantly damned.

Apple today declared its support for the Equality Act of 2015, introduced by members of congress this afternoon. The Equality Act would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964, adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the legislation that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin.

I think passing such a law would be a start, but, like with any such law, if employers are careful not to be stupid, it can be awfully hard to prove discrimination. There is lots of statistical evidence** that rampant age discrimination in hiring goes on, but, try to prove that any particular employer is guilty in any particular non-hire.

** (Google statistical evidence age discrimination)

Precisely, which is why this kind of legislation is inadvisable.

Any legislation which is virtually impossible to enforce should be avoided if possible.

I like to think of Tim playing Johnny Appleseed spreading the seeds of peace along a rainbow road. I am pleased with Apple and Tim in their support.

But, but, but then I am a card carrying f@ggot so I would say that wouldn't I.

How exactly was the global meltdown - which happened when Bush was in office - Obamas fault?

I didn't say it was Obamas fault. I said it was Obamas responsability to fix it. Just like you have to fix it if someone takes your car on a joy ride and send it into a ditch.
Because of that, much of what he wanted to do in the first term was scuttled. I'm a complete supporter of the democrats and think Bush is a vile pile of ****; that should tell you were I stand.

It's funny how you guys are so intolerant of those who you think are intolerant. Under your new definition of tolerance, all ideas are equally true and valid. Well if you stick to that, you can't say Christians are bigots without making yourself the intolerant one. See, it's self-defeating.

Have a nice day.

Who says Christians are bigots? Only bigots are bigots! If some bigot decides to call himself a "Christian", whose fault is that?

"At Apple we believe in equal treatment for everyone, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, how they worship or who they love."

but what if the person only loves their race (whatever it is), only loves heterosexuals, and came here illegally and they believe its their religion to kill Americans.

Then what? everyone still? Just asking the question.... o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

And what about people who ask weird, incoherent, ranting questions? Yes, even they should get equal treatment! :)

There are 1.1 billion catholics alone in the world that say homosexuality is wrong.

No, there are not. I know plenty of Catholics, and none of them say that. Granted my sample is small, but you have zero data to back up what you claim all Catholics think. Even my small sample proves your sweeping statement is incorrect.

You know what the term is for people who make sweeping generalizations amour what a group thinks or how they behave? You appear to be an anti-Catholic bigot, based on your statement.

I don't speak about discriminating someone. I speak about hate. That original sentence was hate directed at anyone who just doesn't agree with specific point of view.

If you want to stop discrimination then stop it with respect and try to defend your views with argumentation, not attacks. Otherwise it's just a war for distinction until there will be left only one "right" point of view. Beautiful world. Resembles me something. Meanwhile they hate you, you hate them. Both call each other Neanderthals instead of discussing. Also a nice place to live in.

When one tries to debate one's point based on first hand experience, shift in public opinion, science etc and the only response is "But God...." and a promise of eternal damnation and accusations of causing the downfall of civilisation then one could be forgiven for getting a little frustrated.

Also, I still don't see how calling someone a Neandertal is in any way similar to being a Nazi.

In the USA the phrase "Person of color" is widely, and rightly so, considered a racist statement. I will assume you did not know that.

"Nobody colored me," is the reply to your phrase that seems appropriate.

I have NEVER heard "person of color" be considered racist. "Colored guy" racist, "person of color" not.

I don't necessarily disagree with the law, I just think Apple should shut their piehole about it.
