Apple Backs Out of Talks to Purchase Game Studio Electronic Arts, Amazon Reportedly Set to Make Offer Instead [Updated]

Wow, I had no idea Apple were at all interested in EA. There would be 0 downsides to this accusation, hehe.

My cat is rumoured to be going to buy Electronic Arts (EA)!

Update: according to myself, the rumour my cat is going to buy Electronic Arts (EA) is incorrect.

Also, I don’t even own a cat.
The cat you don't own is with me. It's my cat. It will confirm it owns EA shortly, just as soon as it stops cleaning its ******* and ignoring me (dinner time).

LOL Apple's gaming strategy is predatory gambling microtransactions. They'd be a perfect fit.

(Amazon is not buying EA.)
What nonsense. Apple’s gaming strategy is Apple Arcade which has zero micro transactions. What happened to mobile gaming wasn’t apples fault. They tried to get devs to avoid free apps in the beginning. And when freemium got out of hand, they created a service without IAPs. They don’t have the best catalog, to be sure. But you’re criticizing them for the wrong thing, at least WRT games

Oh how I wish Apple would have bought EA. I’ve been around long enough to remember that EA was one of the first developers to abandon Apple way back in the Apple II days. The irony would have been delicious.

Last thing I need is a reason to subscribe to Apple Arcade.
Not a chance any of these would be locked up to Apple Arcade. The Apple Arcade rules already allow games to appear on consoles and PC as well as in the Arcade. They just don’t release on Android (which, many games don’t release on Android anyway). And, that market cap would not be the same if the game was available without micro transactions (which Apple Arcade titles don’t have). So this was never going to be a reason to subscribe to Apple Arcade.

Amazon shouldn't be allowed to make any acquisitions from here on out. And they should have to spin off AWS so that other retailers don't have to compete with a retailer that can print money.

Smart move, Apple.

Not really, because Apple produces quality products and services for the price.

EA is better off sharing a bed with Bezos, where you sometimes get the quality products you think you’re purchasing.

Bezos stopped running Amazon over a year ago. Andy Jassy has been on the job for quite some time.

Apple hasn't taken ANY kind of gaming seriously since Apple started. I grew up on the Apple //e and there were a few cool games like Choplifter and Lode Runner (1982-ish timeframe) but even after 40 years of Apple trying to market/advertise iPod Touch as being the next gaming console platform and Apple Arcade is actually the next platform and the vast emptiness of games for the Mac (forever) I just don't see why Apple would want to change their ways and invest heavily into gaming. I just don't think Apple has the heart for gaming, and that's perfectly ok with me.

As @leman would ask: Why waste time with Metal 3 and showing off "high end" games during WWDC if they aren't into gaming?

Really wished that Apple had bought EA. would've helped them with porting some of the games over for the mac. I know apple arcade is doing ok but if they bought EA, they could've really had computer gaming take over.

I've never understood the push for Mac gaming. Just seems like people want one more reason to worship their Apple products.

Mac processor and GPU are getting better each year. if they could handle gaming, they would be able to acquire more customers and more market share. think about how many gamers out there that use high end PCs.

That's too bad, EA would have been a good match. It would have meant focusing a lot of attention on platforms that have nothing to do with Apple though, which is not the Apple way. It would have been incredible though to see a full proper version of the next Sims game on iOS, and all the other franchises. And the Apple logo at the start of every EA published game.

Tim realized the 'SAT' numbers would have bad...and he really likes saying SAT numbers were through the roof. :p

Isn’t EA the most hated of game developers? Or is that all of them?
Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) loot box money grab fiasco is all you need to know about EA.

EA has been a farm out job company since it's inception. Nothing was made in-house by them. The first games they published in the 80s were licensed titles from small companies like Ozark Softscape ("M.U.L.E." and "Seven Cities of Gold"). They just secure the licenses, farm out the creation and then do all of the marketing.

I think Apple would be better served by buying smaller game companies like "Sega" or "Bandai" that actually make product and have many iconic titles.

EA's a crappy company but lets get real, Apple owning a game studio? Nah. Apple would be awful at that, as evidence by the utterly pointless Apple Arcade and its games aimed exclusively at young children that like pressing buttons, or at least that's what it feels like.

All. Gamers are one of the most toxic and self entitled communities.
Edit: and it really shows.
Wow. I love blanket statements that pin the perceived opinion of a small subset of a group on the entire group…

Like “men just think about sex all day” and “black mothers are usually single mothers”. These are falsehoods.

If we are going for toxic and self-entitled, let’s look at celebrities, influencers, and politicians first. Hey, we can even throw some apple fanboys in there too.
