I am still amazed that everyone is welcoming a piece of £25 rubber to sort out a major problem in the design of a very expensive phone. Apple must be rubbing their hands and laughing out loud!!!

They are taking all of us for fools. Surely if everyone didn't get so excited over a rubber band and demanded the phone got sorted and a replacement or a fix to be done then it would be a lot better for all.

By accepting the rubber bumper you are saying to Apple you accept there is a problem but are happy to keep their faulty product.

I will be waiting till after Sept 30th when I will still be trying to get a revised version of the phone which i am sure they are sorting in manufacturing right now, if not already. I am sure they will not carry on making this phone in the current faulty state. After all, why give Sept 30th as a date? Is that when the new phone is expected to be in circulation?

I will get off my soap box now, but I will like to end by saying I think the phone is probably the best product they have made.

9/30/2010

So - what happens after September 30, 2010? iP4.1 with coating on the antenna, making all the how many millions early adopters (including yours truly) made like hell...?

As long as you still have an account with the bank/CC company you'll be fine. The root info is all the same, just a different account number, may take a few extra days but your bank will get it into your account still.

I wonder what they'll do for me. The credit card I bought the iPhone with got stolen recently and I had to close the # and get a new number. I wonder how the refund will be processed...

Awesome so awesome!

Thank you Steve to giving me a free condom for my iPhone!
A wonderful gift so lovely so thrilling and awesome. I always knew you love your customers. now it is save too.

...

BTW, why are there so many negatives on this article? Apple is issuing money back to people plus shipping and any VAT charges. Are people insane here? Why would anyone vote negative for a company making good on refunds on a timely manner.
Maybe people don't get this voting thing, or they are stock holders who are afraid of the costs [estimated 175 million] going along with it?

Steve said that they will reevaluate things after 30 September 2010. I presume that he hopes for a real fix; like a new bottom frame part, made of two parts glued together, with an insulated antenna element in between them.

I bought my iphone 4 and a black bumper on launch day. A few days later I purchased a white bumper on the Apple online store. I received it last week.

So does this mean I will get both bumpers refunded AND an opportunity to pick out a free third party case?

I don't think that's at all what Steve what saying. There aren't many cases in the Apple Stores now, and stock mostly likely will be low until then, especially after handing them out for free. Obtaining a bumper will be impossible. September 30 is just a date to cut off the free case deal for customers. They can't give away free cases forever, or at least for the life of the iPhone 4. After September, they'll expect consumers to pay for cases. This whole thing is really just a short little deal to give early adopters something free...and I'm totally fine with it.

Yeah, I purchased my bumper at the Apple Store with a debit card. For safety reasons, I had my bank cancel that particular card & issue me a new one.

I talked to two Apple customer care reps & they told me that I would be issued a check (from my bank), if the debit or cc card used to purchase the bumper was no longer active.

Hope that helps. :D

Verra interesting....

Well good enough.

But the whiners going on about major defects can stop now.

Had a 36 minute phone conversation today on my 4 with no case touching the spot that's supposed to make it die instantly.

Work related call. Bummer. It proceeded uneventfully and no hangups.

So the idiots, who purchased the 10 cent rubber for $30 are in luck. Good for them.

It's actually rubber, plastic and metal. It's probably less markup on material and labor costs than your average pair of shoes (Nike gets $140 for what exactly?). Maybe next time you should keep your judgement of idiots to yourself, idiot. ;)

Better than all those other cell phone brands with recent videos of similar major reception problems, where nobody gives you a free case or anything.

Just return them all and try another phone to see if that works better given your coverage.

eBay glut?

Since most i4 owners don't seem to have any major signal reception issues, how many of these bumpers are going to end up on eBay?

The market will be flooded with them, it'd be much smarter to hang onto it until when the program runs out and they go back up for resale. (If Apple chooses to put them up for sale rather than continue giving away the bumpers)

It's called getting on with your life once the trivial issue has been addressed. Also known as being an adult.
BTW I notice you're still getting one.

36 minutes is a long time to spend on the phone with the manager of Burger King. I hope you used a kinder tone with him than you use on this message board.
