Yes I am totally aware of that.
But Apple is so rich they can afford to swallow some of that currency fluctuation.
Did our wages increase? No. So have Apple products gotten more expensive for Canadians? Yes.

many people are poorer than you. why don't you share your money with them? kind of like social welfare.

Like any businesses, Apple is here to make money. I am sure you would do the same if you own a company.

On the other hand (pun?), can said lightning connector wrist strap also be used to carry around your iPhone / iPad / Pencil / Magic Trackpad / Magic Mouse 2?

I suppose you could carry around the cap for your Apple Pencil. ʘ‿ʘ (The pencil itself has a male Lightning connector.)

Seeing how the tv itself has a Lightning connector, you could even attach that to your wrist if you’d like!

I bought the 64gb model this morning. Not sure I need the extra storage, but I think I'll use this for a few years, so the extra storage makes it a bit more future proof.

I think it'll probably come down to games if one needs the extra storage. My bet is most people won't.

Honestly, I'm not sure I believe you.

You seriously care that much about how it looks in your TV device stack versus how it actually works and the new features? (Including all of the updates Apple will make in the coming years to the OS?)

You seriously care more the looks of something that is basically invisible in a home—it's not a watch or fashion piece out-front—over all of the killer apps and games coming in the app store?

If you really hate the design that much, you couldn't just hide the tiny device behind your cable box—which is uglier—modem router—which is also uglier—or gaming console or a book and enjoy modern capabilities? Including when they add cord-cutting features?

Nah, I don't believe you. It's nice fodder to fan some flames on the message boards, but I'm calling shenanigans.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I actually prefer the features of the old as well. All I want it to do is stream HBO, Netflix et. al., Stream everything from my Macs, have nice screen savers, and stream my photos. I don't want games or all of that other connectivity on it. But, different preferences for different people. My main use for it is a link from my Mac to my TV, that's it. I don't want it to do much else.

I wanted to jump right on this when I heard about apps and watched all the vids about it. It looks awesome, but I would love Amazon Prime on my ATV. I'll sit it out for a bit and see if they release that first. I already have two last gens (though one is dying on me) so I planned on replacing that. If it doesn't get Amazon Prime I may have to look at a device like the new Roku.
I think it's been sort of confirmed hat Amazon Prime won't be coming to the Apple TV. Wasn't there a story about Amazon refusing to sell the Apple TV because they didn't want their customers to be confused about buying something off Amazon that couldn't play Amazon content?

The lack of Prime playback is the main deal breaker for me too. I have a Mac mini on the tv right now, and the only feature it lacks it AirPlay, which while pretty ridiculous, is less important than Prime. The user interface leaves a lot to be desired too (relative to the simplicity of an ATV), but my family is slowly learning to use a trackpad and browser to watch shows.

because of the form factor?

That is part of it, but I also Just use it exactly how the 3rd gen was. Just a link to my Mac really. But, I am sure that others will use all of the app store and gaming and all of that, I just sincerely would not use any of it and I know that. 3rd gen was perfection for how I plan to use it.

Hate the new design. Can't believe they changed the form of it to not match the previous generation or the Airport express. Jobs wouldn't have let this product out. I purchased a 3rd gen a few weeks ago even knowing this was out because I prefer it as a product.

I call your bluff, you are not serious.

No rush to order. I will pick them up in local Walmart, Best Buy, etc, on Friday.

Since Apple is shipping to 80 countries on the launch date, they must have a load of them or not anticipate any high-profile demands, like iphone.

Thanks Captain Obvious.
And I won't buy it, Tim Cook the beancounter will learn that people won't take all the **** he throws out.
I doubt that your non-purchase is gonna matter one iota to him. But I just love how you suggest that it does matter. He's put out some great iPhones and made the screens larger....something JOBS refused to do. The iPhone is STILL outselling Samsung's nonsense phones. I will go on record saying how wrong you are.

...With the exception of football on Sunday, my family watches everything on our Apple TV.

Wow, this just shows how different TV viewing models are between the US and the UK (or is that the rest of the world?). Apple really needs to put some thought into this if they want to impact the TV market over here. Or alternatively, just use their money and influence to impose their version of how they think TV should be on us.

I will get one but I'm awaiting stock at Best Buy. No rush really. I got some Best Buy gift cards, some Reward Zone certificates and I want those Reward Zone points.

I spend the majority of my entertainment viewing via Apple TV. No other device. Besides Xbox One for OTA channels thanks to their TV tuner.

But I'm glad the new Apple TV is being released though! :D

ordered a 64gb .. figured why not .. use my apple tv all the time .. only buying one currently .. have 3 in the house

I tried with no success. My TV has an optical port - so I went from TV to Receiver with optical cable and went HDMI from current Apple TV to TV. I can't get any sound from Apple TV. Tried many different settings and couldn't get it to work. TV audio works, but now I don't get 5.1 surround on available channels/networks. I gave up and re-routed back to how I originally had set-up. Any thoughts? My receiver is a Yamaha which is about 4 - 5 yrs old. Simple solution is to buy a new receiver, but not money I want to spend right now.

The passthru setting is sometimes referred to as ARC (Audio Return Channel), and in some cases only one of the HDMI connectors on your TV will support ARC. Not sure if that's any help.

Edit: sorry, I was getting your post mixed up with someone else who was trying to hook up a soundbar, I see your issue is with passthru on the amp rather than the TV.

One possible workaround though might be to hook up the ATV direct to an HDMI input on your TV that supports ARC, and then take the passed-thru audio from your TV back to the amp.

Oct 30 earliest deliver makes me think these will be in store Friday. It's a risk but I'll wait and waltz in and buy one instead of paying for shipping.
Good call. I think this is a pretty accurate prediction. I'm going to cancel my order and just pick one up on Friday instead.

If the Apple Store near you doesn't charge you sales tax then it shouldn't matter. Sales tax is only charged based on where you are located. If in your state or region sales tax is not charged then ordering it online shouldn't be any different.
That only matters if where it's being shipped from is in the same state you live in and that state charges sales tax.
I gather he lives in Massachusetts and wants to pick it up at the store in New Hampshire.

Really? That was a pretty dumb purchase, this comes with a bluetooth remote so you can hide the unit away and never have to look at it and thats not even mentioning the app support. Plus, the design is the same its just a little bit taller, I really feel that you are either trolling or are fighting the obvious buyers remorse.

Hate to say it (because I too would have liked an optical out to run direct to my whole house audio), but maybe it's time to look for a newer receiver that has hdmi jacks...

I was in this very boat last year. Eventually I got sick of the Frankenstein spaghetti setup I had going on behind my entertainment unit and just upgraded the receiver. Honestly, it wasn't that expensive, and it's *much* tidier now, plus everything gets switched over with a single click. I have no regrets.

I am getting so tired and sick of the "Jobs wouldn't have ..." phrase.

First of all, you have no idea what he would and wouldn't, second of all, he is dead and life continuous and other people are now in charge and make decision. His spirit will life on, but even jobs changed his mind from time to time and no need to life in the past.

Yes! My package is already delivered! Pre-ordered via a national retailer here a few days ago when they started accepting them, with no special expectations. I mean, a retailer can accept preorders just because they want to grab sales, not ship early. But I'll be damned... They must have bulked up with Apple TV's in advance. Shipping confirmation 22 hours ago, with an actual trackable package id. I'll have one on my doorstep tomorrow or so since it's already been in transit for a while! Everything went better than expected...

It's already delivered, yet will be on your doorstep tomorrow?
