No 4K, so already behind the state of the art. Had to get the RoKu 4, with 4K and VuDu. (Just one of multiple 4K streamers available or about to be available).

Wrong 4K isn't state of the art anything. There isn't much 4K content and it doesn't beat 1080p unless you have an enormous sized tv and you sit closer to it to see the actual difference in the pixels or quality.

You say it's behind the state of the art yet it's going to be the number one selling over the other options lol just watch and see.

I tried with no success. My TV has an optical port - so I went from TV to Receiver with optical cable and went HDMI from current Apple TV to TV. I can't get any sound from Apple TV. Tried many different settings and couldn't get it to work. TV audio works, but now I don't get 5.1 surround on available channels/networks. I gave up and re-routed back to how I originally had set-up. Any thoughts? My receiver is a Yamaha which is about 4 - 5 yrs old. Simple solution is to buy a new receiver, but not money I want to spend right now.

Hmm, that is strange. Your Yamaha receiver should support HDMI passthrough. You should be able to connect the Apple TV HDMI out to your receiver's HDMI in, and then connect the HDMI out of the receiver to the HDMI in of your TV.
 
It is also available in the Mexican store, and it's priced al MXN $3,199.00 for 32GB and MXN $3,999.00 for the 64GB
 
When can we expect other retailers (i.e. Staples) to begin selling it? I have a giftcard burning a hole and I would like to use it in this.
 
Close, but not quite accurate. The initial download is only allowed to be 200MB max. When you run the game, it can download more (from Apple's cloud service), and that data stays on your Apple TV as long as you keep running that app. If your Apple TV's storage starts to get full, then the device will start deleting that extra downloadable data starting with apps that you haven't run in a while - only then will an app need to redownload its data. So apps that you run a lot won't need to redownload the excess data unless you let your Apple TV's storage fill up.

Based on the requirements for providing lots of downloadable content for apps, you aren't going to see a lot make use of it. Even a 500MB download is HUGE if that app becomes popular and hundreds or thousands of users are downloading the additional pieced.

Based on the conversations on the Apple dev forums, most will not be utilizing this outside of database stuff.

Good for you. I'm happy you found a better solution for your needs. As for the rest of us, we're pretty stoked to get the new Apple TV and all of the new features it brings to the table...er, living room!
 
Hate the new design. Can't believe they changed the form of it to not match the previous generation or the Airport express. Jobs wouldn't have let this product out. I purchased a 3rd gen a few weeks ago even knowing this was out because I prefer it as a product.
 
My understanding is the App will be 200MB until you start to run it and then it can download an addition 2GB for a total of 2200MB. Then if it needs more it will have to swap out parts of the 2200MB. My Guess is that means the full 2200MB will stay on the ATV. Apple will not want to re-download the 2200mb each time you play the game. This is why I think they have the 64gb option for those that have a lot of games that are also large. I could be wrong. I am choosing the 64gb option because I believe Apple had a good reason to offer both. If you are right then what is the reason for the 64GB version? Other then what someone else said that it is only Apple Profits. I think there are more reasons but I have not read anything that confirms that (like keeping multiple movies and tv shows on the device).

Apps can utilize additional downloads though they can be overwritten as soon as you exit the app meaning you have to download them each time. With even small downloads becoming big transfers if an app is at all popular, most developers aren't going to make use of large downloads. It's unlikely you'll see games downloading GBs of additional content outside the 200MB app max and even if they do, enjoy the crummy experience of waiting for such loads to download every time you use the app.
 
Yeah I kind of had that feeling. Still though, you'd think from a business perspective you would want as many ways to view your content as possible. Having Amazon prime available on Xbox, PS4, Fire TV, TV's, Apple TV is just more ways for people to buy content. I guess by the same token, we will never say an iTunes app on FireTV...

I agree that it makes sense to me to try to spread it as many places as possible. I don't watch Amazon Video because of this. I can't stream it to my Chromecast or Apple TV and I'm not going to buy a Fire Stick just for their limited video library. Getting more viewers seems to be possible by allowing other devices to show the service but it seems Amazon doesn't want to go that route. It's strange but it seems the way they're looking to go.

Exactly ;) It probably also doesn't support state of the art 3D - remember when TV makers tried to get us all to buy new TVs and sit on our couch watching with sunglasses on? HA!

But Apple is so rich they can afford to swallow some of that currency fluctuation.
Did our wages increase? No. So have Apple products gotten more expensive for Canadians? Yes.

Yes, Apple sure could, but why would they? It will still sell...

I'm not familiar with the Apple dev forums, but I guess it is probably not populated by representatives of the groups that make the really large halo-like games or the No Man's Sky example I gave previously. Most of the Apple devs focus on casual games, which in most cases do not require a lot of storage. But now we get dedicated controller support and big screens that might change.

There might be a setting on your TV to enable/disable the optical audio output, or configure it for PCM or whatever?
Keep clicking till it works is the secret troubleshooting technique I use in these situations.

I understand. I'm bit surprised because Yamaha and Denon (my old receiver) have supported HDMI passthrough for many years. Sucks, sorry to hear that.

What model of Yamaha Receiver and what model of Television do you have?
 
There might be a setting on your TV to enable/disable the optical audio output, or configure it for PCM or whatever?
Keep clicking till it works is the secret troubleshooting technique I use in these situations.

Was really disappointed by the lack of optical port for audio. Unfortunately, with my current set-up, the new Apple TV won't work. Not about to go replace my receiver just to get the Apple TV, sorry. It does look cool and hoping it lives up to the hype.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe there are HDMI adapters that can extract the audio from the HDMI and convert it to an Optical Out.
