Hmm, perhaps the long drawn out reveal to pre-order date worked against them. Personally I was ready to buy this thing when it was first announced but now that it's been a month I will hold off till the next version. Honestly I was miffed it doesn't support 4K. I was burned last time buying a 720p Apple TV only to have a 1080p one out less than a year later, I am just not going to fall for that again.

Also, I have much better products for playing games and accessing 3rd party content. I will wait to see how the Apple TV App platform matures, but I have already seen how lousy Android and Amazon are as "game consoles" are when developers try to port phone and tablet games to the TV. Touch screen games simply do not work when you try to hook a game controller and play on a disconnected screen.

I don't think so. There are two different types of gift cards -- Apple Store gift cards and iTunes/App Store gift cards. The iTunes/App Store gift cards are frequently offered at a discount by PayPal and other merchants. I've never seen Apple Store gift cards offered at a discount anywhere.

Unfortunately, you cannot. I have tried before :(. iTunes GC only works for iTunes and the app store.

This may be the case but then why does my iTunes balance come up on my phone when I enter a Apple store? I have it linked to my ApplePay. I thought that would mean I cause that balance in the store using ApplePay.

That's a good question to ask Apple. According to their website, it does not appear that you can use iTunes gift cards to purchase hardware or accessories in an Apple Retail Store: http://www.apple.com/shop/accessories/giftcards

Went with 32gb. I figure only games will consistently be large enough to use up material space. I do game, but since I also have an XBone and since I'm more of a AAA title gamer than a casual gamer, I figure I'm not going to do too much gaming on this device as it is currently configured. If I do end up liking it more than I expect, well that will probably mean that I'm buying a second one anyway.

I am an easy sell. I am just happy it has a home button on the remote now!! Haha. I hated to keep having to hit menu like 10 times to get back the the home screen. Especially when it starts lagging and you have to wait to hit the menu button for it to actually does something.

It actually reminds me quite a bit of how the first iPhone only supported EDGE data over AT&T's network, despite the fact that phones with 3G support were already quite common. I only offer that example to suggest that the Apple TV might not be different in this respect under Steve's watch.

excellent point - thank you. I was one of those iphone "1" users, complaining then too, no doubt :)

The exchange rate is really hitting Apple prices hard. $269 AUD for 32gb is insane. I dread what the iPad Pro price will be

No idea what that comes up - it doesn't on mine. However, whatever is happening you can't pay in an Apple Store using iTunes Store credit.

I want one, but I guess I should wait until I come back from Walt Disney World to determine how much financial havoc I've caused... then re-assess my wants. :(

Ordered but not incredibly hyped. Hoping the apps and future software updates make this the type of product that can be useful for a long time, I don't want this to follow the iPhone model of "upgrade every year." Let's face it, I think most of us are buying this because of a promise that we'll get interesting apps in the future (COME ON PLEX AND AMAZON!).

The one thing I really want is for Amazon to put Instant Video on there with full Apple TV integration. I.e, amazon prime movies and regular amazon rentals appear in this menu and work with Siri:

If Amazon pull that off then I'm going to have a problem on my hands: what to do with my Fire TV.

I apologize if someone has said this but the price of remote is horrible. The worst of Apple coming out.

A PS4 controller which has motion, touch, and rumble, as well as 2 sticks, a D-pad, and 8 buttons is $59. It is one of the best controllers I have ever used, and I am sure the XBoxOne is also amazing and both are less than this tiny remote control. Apple just cannot help themselves. It is becoming such a turn off.

Too bad cannot use PS4 controller on Apple TV. Would love to see the games people could make without being constrained by this remote. Maybe Next gen someone at Apple will get serious about games.

For me, the A8 processor, universal search, and Siri are justification enough. I assume that apps will be coming. And given the history of the App Store, I think it's a pretty safe assumption.
Agreed. And the home button (assuming it does what I think it will) is added icing on the cake. I sometimes think too many people have unrealistic expectations for a new product (like providing an explanation of what existed before the big bang) and then seem disappointed when the new product doesn't cook a pizza.

Hold the menu button down - jumps right to home screen.

No but out of all the tech companies selling products in Canada, Apple is the only one doing radical price increases, how do you explain that?
Oh and no need to be so arrogant, the US economy isn't doing so great either

Because Apple is the only one actually selling products that don't have to be discounted to sell?

Wasn't being arrogant, and didn't intend my statement to be construed as such. My statement was not a condemnation of Canada's current financial situation, or bragging about the US. It was just a statement about the fact that it doesn't make sense to me for Apple (or any other company) to discount their products in a country who's currency is cheaper than the dollar. I would feel the exact same way if the shoe were on the other foot.

Honestly I was miffed it doesn't support 4K. I was burned last time buying a 720p Apple TV only to have a 1080p one out less than a year later, I am just not going to fall for that again.

.

There was 18 months between the Apple TV 2 and 3.

Unfortunately no. Only controllers that are part of Apple's MFi program will work with the Apple TV. So, mostly controllers that work with iOS devices. The new SteelSeries Nimbus, that was made specifically for the Apple TV, is on sale at the Apple Store starting today.

None of which will be in the same league as the PS4 or XboxOne controllers. Sad for us.

Thanks for that!

My AAPL stock needs revenue in the future, too.

Wow, an extra remote costs more than half the price of the 32 GB box. Looks like they're ratcheting up the Apple Tax to an extreme. I'm sure they'll likely drop the price of the extra remote by $20 or $30 when they realize that they aren't selling as many as they'd like to.

For the current price of $79, you'd be better off just buying a second Apple TV for another room in your house and using that remote, when needed, to play multi-player games.

Ordered In US at 930 Am EST for 64 and it's just now processing.

Must have had a lot of orders. Also noticed around 1pm online chat was directing people to call so assume they were overwhelmed.

Maybe they did sell like hot cakes.

Wonder if Tim gives an Estimated sales number tomorrow?

Edit: did anyone see the cult of Mac Apple TV review they posted at 1:16pm est? It's in my RSS feed but it's been pulled.
