out of curiosity, would an apple exec ever claim that ANY year's lineup was worse than any of their previous years? that said, being that its only been extremely minor refreshes for the first 7 months, they've kinda got their work cut out for them...

If I were you I wouldn't get my heart set on a 5.5" it really makes no sense that Apple will make one. So the reason there keeps being "production issues" is because some fool is trying to pull a fast one.

I have a 5.5" phone and if I am really honest with myself it is difficult to use in one hand. Considering that Apple is about making devices that are easy to use and the best for the intended purpose it is highly unlikely they will make a 5.5" phone that is large and unwieldy. The large screen is really nice but also cumbersome.

So in short 4.7" I can definitely see this happen, 5.5" would be a sign that Apple is headed one way and I should stop buying their products.

Good thing most people have two hands. :D One handed use is a usage choice, not a prerequisite. I've been playing with a lot of phones lately since my contract is up in Sept. ~5" seems to be my sweet spot, but the 5+" phones are compelling as well.

I have recently talked myself into, out of, and back into including the iP6 in the mix for my next phone. I figure I might as well include it as I will most likely JB it and make it my own. Hopefully the JB community is hard at work.

4.7" for moi

I don't want a big dufus looking phone. I have seen those big 5"+ phones out in the wild and they look downright dumb. Oh, well, different strokes for different folks.

No one is making you buy one. That is exactly why they're coming out with a 4.7 inch phone.

I agree. I can't stand the look of a mini clipboard in someone's hand.

I think there is room for both. I am not sure why some are adverse to having multiple form factors of the iPhone.

I would actually be inline with other Apple products. Could you really imagine Apple making only on flavor of laptop and/or desktop?

I'm interested, and due for an upgrade in September, but I'll hold on to my 5 until I can see both in person before making my decision. They both look good, though the 5.5 inch may prove too big for my tastes. Exciting news in any case.

Hard to use for pretty much anything

When you say it's not easy to use with one hand, are you referring to typing on it? (I assume you are not holding this phone up to your ear with two hands).

If you look at it with the perspective of an iPad owner, which I would think most people are who post here, then we have already typed on a larger device along with learning how to type on it.

Well typing on it and calling is pretty straight forward in fact typing is pretty easy considering the size (but definitely difficult with one hand). Doing plenty of other things like dialing with one hand and so on is difficult. It is especially hard since stretching a little far can sometimes make your palm touch some other parts of the screen inadvertently. Fortunately iPhones don't have the retarded soft touch buttons on the front that samsung insists on using.

So as an in between for a phone and tablet sure but for everyday use where you actually do often need to do some one handed actions it can be a pain. If you always have two hands free cool, I have small kids so I battle to have one hand free.

I should add I have a samsung galaxy note 2 and it is such an awful awful phone I cannot believe samsung does so well making such absolutely rubbish products (I will leave it at that my list of grievances is too long for a simple post). Suffice it to say my decision 2 years ago to try something other than an iPhone for a change was a huge mistake, nice for the first 3-4 months when it was new and exciting. I can admit when I was wrong.

Having compared some other 4.7" and 5.5" phones, I'd lean to the 4.7". Bigger enough than the iP5 but not so big it is near the size of an iPad Mini.

Don't see the problem. I find it uncomfortable to use my 5s with one hand so a bigger screen is not going to be a problem (for me at least). I would be more concerned about the weight. If it's too heavy to carry in my coat pocket then I would probably stick with the iPad mini instead.

What!! 4.7 is already too small?

Exactly! That's insanity.

Apple, please offer a "mini", in other words normal, sized phone and don't make it a budget option. I want a small (ish) phone with all the latest technology. I have an iPad mini retina, so keep my phone small please. 4" is great size, just keep finding ways to make the rest of the device smaller/thinner without sacrificing battery life.

The best thing Apple can do is provide 3 choices of sizes and offer each in a budget or high end version: smallish, kinda big but reasonable, silly big.

And don't tell me just to buy the 5S. I want the new one, just not enormous. Perhaps Apple will really nail the design and the 4.7" won't seem so huge.

A 5.5" iP6 is nearer to the size of the mini than the 4.7", but really can't be considered near the size of a mini. There is a huge difference in size.

iphone releases

Why oh why does Apple have to screw around with its customers? Can't you have both models of phones available for all who want them on day one? Be aggressive and on top of your game and "Get yer done"!

It is all about perception.

The increase in size from 4.7" to 5.5" crosses the perceptual barrier from "phone" to "tablet" for many people. Nothing wrong with that, or with anyone who wants a larger phone.

And you might refrain from statements such as "can't be considered." Yes, it can be.

Ah I see. I suppose it just goes back to how you plan to use it. Good thing there are rumors of two different sizes. Thanks for the insight though.

Every time I see a mockup picture with three iPhones, I am always drawn to the one on the left...
On another note, I'm sick of seeing mockups without diamond cut chamfers on the front.

Apple is expected to unveil its new iPads, possibly alongside the iWatch, at an October event that also will likely be used to announce the public release of OS X Yosemite.

NO ! What I want is an Apple TV :(

Unless it is integrated within the next-generation iPad........ :)

So the rumors of seeing a 5.5" iPhone being released after the smaller one seems to be credible :(

I'm fine with that as long as they at least announce it at the same time. That way I am not just waiting and wishing and hoping when i could be enjoying my 4.7in iPhone.

Regarding the 5.5" iPhone 6. If it's going to begin production in September we'd have seen some parts leaks such as a battery, chassis, or screen. But nada.

I don't think the 5.5" iPhone exists. The only way Apple could keep it that much of a secret while the 4.7" iPhone has parts leaks every week is if it was made in the United States. I highly doubt the capacity and manufacturing expertise exists in the US to produce that many phones - or any iPhones for that matter.
